Hi all, I'm new to gaming on a PC as I have only just got a laptop capable of running most games, so I need some help getting some good free racing games. I have plenty of harddrive space, but am broke after buying the laptop.

The specs are:
Dell Inspiron 1545
3gb RAM
250gb Harddrive
Intel Core Duo 2 ghz processor
32-bit operating system - Vista Home Prenium.

I have a few games already:
Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2
Need For Speed Underground 2
Need For Speed Pro Street (actually requires a higher spec than I have, but runs fine when I turn the detail down a bit - this dosn't bother me as it still looks good)
GTA Vice City
Moto GP
Deer Drive
Bus Driver (simulator - runs quite slow and at times is quite un-playable)
Driver

So was wandering if there are any free (legal) downloadable driving games that will/should rund decently on my computer?

First of all, I can't see how you will run most games at max resolution and the highest quality settings. A laptop is very limited in term of gaming. Unless you pay for some Alienware stuff but then you'll be so broke you wont be able to afford the electricity to run the computer...

As for free games, you pay the price for quality. Free games usually suck. :dunce:

project torque is free, but i don't know if your laptop will get decet fps with that.

Live For Speed is semi free too. You just have to pay to unlock additional cars and tracks. It runs fairly good on my Inspiron 1525 which has integrated graphics so it should run on your laptop. It's a great game too.

Trackmania nations is free as well but I've never tried it so I couldn't tell you how good it is.

Thanks all, I'll try those.

-Riders Motion, I turn the resolution and quality settings down quite low anyway, as I'm not too botherd if the graphics are a little jagged - I am used to playing the PS1 games again now so it makes no difference really...

Oh sorry I forgot about this one, Racer. It's a brilliant free full game, although it's mostly DLC (its all free). There's a few hundred cars to download, and maybe around 100 tracks or so. The game itself is kind of rubbish, but it's all editable (is that even a word?). You can tune your cars, repaint, add bits. You'll need some time to work it all out but you can make some pretty wild creations. You'll get a high FPS even with pretty bad specs.

Get steam (Valve software's online distribution software) at http://store.steampowered.com/

Look at the games on that platform. You can get all the demos on there and see which racer works best. The prices are very good as well for digital distribution, plus it offers a very steady and performing online platform.

I recommend you check:

GTR Evolution Complete
Race 07
STCC
GRID

Thanks, I'll check that out soon. I'm just getting the Racer game, which I think looks really nice.

Thanks everyone.

You can make some pretty wacky creations with it. I made a CF body bus which weighs about 1,000kg and made it go pretty quick, even made a 330i which weighed about 10kg

I've just installed it, but it keeps coming up with an error which prevents it from running... Something about side by side operation...
Any suggestions?

Hmm, I never got that message or have heard anything about it before. Maybe try downloading a different version. I have version 0.6.4, give that a try. It's a very, very simple game, it can't be your PC specs either. I frankly have no idea. Sorry. :(

I have 348 mb ram, 64 mb video card, 1.4 ghz processor, on a >8 year old dell desktop T__T
and viruses from.. internet activities ;) which dont help..
meh.. i guess its better than the internetless windows 95/98 compaq from '96 that i used to rock.

Enemy Territory is awesome (and free), and I know from experience that it can run on something running a GPU as lowly as a GeForce 4 MX440. There is no reason that wouldn't run on a 1545.
