New to GT5P - Game stuck loading

Hello all. I just bought a PS3, GT5P and a DFGT so I could play this great looking game. I set it up about an hour ago and was doing great until I went to run my first race. I selected a C1 and the starting grid screen came up with 'loading' below. The bottom 3 lines for cars are blinking on and off and the game won't load. The audio is playing, though. To make it worse, I can't get the PS3 to respond to either the wheel or my DS3. Basically, it's stuck and as a new owner to both the system and the game I don't know how to proceed. C an someone here please help this pathetic newb out?
 
Thank you. I ended up doing that and getting the disc out. There was a tiny, tiny smudge on the disc that I hadn't seen before. I cleaned it off and reloaded, this time with great success. Just spent 2 hours racing. This is a great game...but I have a lot to learn. Harder than I thought it would be but a lot of fun.
