Hi every body, I just got iRacing a few days ago and let me tell you, it's amazing. I will never go back to GT5. I just scored my first win in the Street Stocks, had an amazing 5 lap battle with some guy who was really clean and it just made me realize how different it is from the normal GT5 online races.

I just have a couple questions,

1. Do I really have to wait till the end of the month to get out of Rookie class? I really want to try and progress out of it as fast as possible, there are too many people causing wrecks and making questionable decisions.

2. Sometimes when I race, everybody will disappear from the track which is really disconcerting when you're racing close to a bunch of cars. Is that something on my end like my connection or is that something on iRacings end?

1. If you get your safety rating above 4.0, and have completed your MPR, you will get fast tracked to D

2. If everyone's disappearing, it's your connection. I went from a wireless to wired connection and it fixed that for me

Edit: And welcome!

Welcome to iRacing! Magic_town has answered your questions. If you want to fast track to D badly enough then pit lane starts and bare minimum racing is the easiest way. I pretty much fast tracked to Class A in about 3 months when I started racing but had poor iRating and quickly dropped to C again once I started actually caring about iRating. Nowadays I realise its better to just go out and have fun and try not too worry too much about safety rating and iRating, thinking about it too much can impact negatively on your driver. It will climb naturally as you progress.

Just a view from my perspective, I am not the fastest driver but skill and experience should tandem with your climb.

Ah, not another oval racer, everyone knows they are a bunch of whiners. :D

J/K of course, welcome to iRacing. You have been lucky so far. Some of those rookie races are very dirty and serious lack of respect. Overall iRacing is amazing, you'll make lots of friends and as you discovered, it's the best racing on the planet.

So I have to get my SR to 4.0 then I'll be instantly in D class? That's all I really care about, my main goal is to start racing in Late Models or the nationals one for awhile, then moving up from there and I can't do that if I'm stuck at rookie.

Another question, can you change gear ratios? I've looked around the setup thing and I've never seen the option.

What would be the best car to get for a rookie that would have a lot of races you can do for it? Like I said I would like to do oval racing, so does the Late Model and national series have a good number of participants?

What level do you have to be to race in the world championship?

Welcome to iRacing! It's great and you can make the most of it, it's up to you. As for the cars and set ups. You can only alter cars in open races and then only certain cars allow gear ratio changes.

Street stock is a fixed setup so you can't change anything. Do street stock until you are class D, then go Late Models to get to C. To fulfill MPR you have to do 4 races in a race that is your license level before you move up.
It was all confusing to me at first but it makes sense in the end. It's all a lot better once you are out of rookie

Remember there is no rush to "upgrade" licenses, I used to try and get to the next level as fast as possible but to be honest you're better off advancing when you believe you are ready too and are comfortable on iRacing, I know rookie is full of crazies, but that's all part of the rookie experience.

Exactly. Get out of rookie, but after that who cares what letter is next to your license. I'm B and I don't even own a B class car, only got there because I race the V8

I'm assuming you want to stick to ovals for now? I'd go late models as they have more races with better handling cars and easy to find setups. I honestly was never very good at late models as I tend to drive agreesive early which isn't always great but I've had better luck in trucks and nationwide (class B).

Rookie can be a pain but plenty of different license classes race street stocks as well. So it's not always soon and gloom.

One tip no ones mentioned yet, is NEVER QUIT out of races, especially in rookie.

Safety Rating is corners per incident, so if you quit after an incident, you've got 4x in 1 or 2 corners, whereas if you'd pitted to get the free (in rookie) car repair, you'd have done 40+ corners for those 4x.

Also, if you quit you finish last, which gives the biggest iRating hit, although you can't see it, and iRating is used to decide which spit you go into, the highest split has the 10/12 best drivers, 2nd plit next best 10/12, all the way down to the bottom split having the worst 10/12 drivers. As you can imagine the driving in the bottom split is appauling, so you want to stay above it.

Simply by staying in the race to the end, you'll probably end-up in the top half, and gain iRating.

I know never to quit. My last race I went back to the back of the field to star the race and my safety rating went up .54! Just by having no incidents. I'm going to be mad if I get to 4.0 before I get paid on Thursday.

every time you cross a whole number (i.e. 3.00) you're SR automatically goes up .40, so during that race, you gained .14 SR after you jumped a whole number. same if you cross a whole number backwards, it goes down .40 to prevent being stuck between classes all the time.

In an attempt to get back some Sim Racing skills and to do something with my free time instead of wasting it, I subscribed again to iRacing. I have a little question though: I received a couple of private messages (or whatever they're called) in the iRacing site that showed via that green bulb in the "notifications" section. They were inviting me to a league I'd like to join but I didn't read the messages entirely and now I cant find them. Where do I check this messages? Thanks in advance! :)

They should be in your inbox on the forums not the racing site.

So just to update, I got out of rookies with a 4.0 SR and am now a D class driver. The only problem I have now is that I'm in a slump. I can't have a clean race to save my life. I ended up getting so frustrated that I went over to the road side for a bit, same thing there. This game can really piss a guy off. I know I wont have clean races until I get into higher classes, but I can't get into higher classes when I keep on getting wrecked by people. I had a race at Charlotte in the Street Stocks with 14 incidents and none of them were my fault! I cant wait till tomorrow when the Nationals will race at Rockingham (which I bought to race the NiS in, before you had to have a D 4.0 :ouch: ), hopefully I'll have better luck there.

/rant :grumpy:

Remember that it's not GT5 and you don't have to rush to level 40 asap. Take your time, and it'll come to you. Just race like you would normally practice but with more defensiveness. Consistency matters more than speed.

Hang back during races if you are just looking to move up in classes. I never truly ran a competitive race early on just so I could avoid the accident prone people in lower classes. And as everyone else will tell you, practice practice practice and then practice some more.
