hey all, i'm at level A-36 and never checked out online races until last night, and i was shocked that all aids were turned off immediately. ugh... and i thought i was getting better at this game.

so is that the deal? all online races have all aids off? i normally use TC off, but this has skid recovery and stability off as well, which makes it hard for me on a DS3.

if there's a setting to change this, please let me know. if there isn't, then i guess this levels the playing field and is the point... in which case i've got alot of hours of practice ahead of me before i'll be comfortable on the ring with you guys.

If you select race for real all assits are off but if you select race for fun it lets you use any assit

Aids are only unavailable if the room's host has set the regulations to have them off. Needless to say, you'll want to be very picky when it comes to choosing a lobby to race in, or perhaps better yet, just start your own.

I'm sure you can open your own room and have it fixed owner, have the settings the way you like them and nobody can change them in the room.

But they can still turn them off in option if they dont wish to use them.

Phillip.

Really? Wow, I never knew that. I just go into any room I like whether's it's for fun or for real.

My advice is that you get used to playing with SRF OFF...
The other aids are a toss up - some people allow them, some don't, some people use them some don't.
But SRF is generally frowned upon because if one person uses it and another doesn't, it does create a big advantage to the person who does use it.

I personally think the reason you would disallow it in a pub lobby is because it seems to allow people to drive more reckless & get away with it.
The pub lobby races with the most reckless risky sloppy unclean driving are the ones that allow SRF & put boost on high. With those 2 things, griefers really can get their jollies by doing ridiculous things.
So when I go to pub lobbies, I make sure to search only SRF off, and then only go into lobbies that do not have boost on. I find this is a way to find better races.

If you're racing with friends in a group you know, SRF or even boost, will not cause too many problems, because if it's allowed, it's usually being used for the purpose for which it was intended - to allow less experienced players a chance to compete with more experienced faster players.
With strangers, people are not using it because they're less experienced, they sometimes use it as a means to be disruptive.

Same thing happened to me about 4 months ago. I had stopped SRF for a while in offline and then ventured online. My biggest hurdle was the online physics. Felt like I was on ice!

I suggest doing some practice in your own lobby to see the difference. Your driving will improve no doubt without the SRF nanny. There's a world of difference in the online world, it completely reinvigorated my interest in GT5. So much more fun (and frustrating sometimes) racing against real people.

Remember, this is supposed to be fun!

I've used no aids for a long time. I tried racing in a room with SRF about a month ago because I had a friend in there. I did fine, but I couldn't drive for a week following that. SRF is a cancer that almost takes a full round of Chemo to rid yourself of. Don't get used to using it - you'll never be fast without it if you do.

Make sure when you practice, you have Track Grip set to REAL (not low).
Aspec, it's all "low"
Online, it's usually set to "real"

There's a big difference - and despite what it says in the options menu - it's NOT only an effect of "rain" tracks or whatever. It effects the handling of all cars on all parts of the track, and yes, especially the edges. So where you're able to put a wheel off in Aspec, in an online race with Grip: Real, putting that wheel off into the grass will be a lot more risky to unsettle your car's grip.
