I need some help. I have integrated intel graphics and have been wanting to buy a video card. Well... my dad is friends with a guy who has his own buisness and he gave me 2 video cards. One says nvidia riva tnt2 on it and one says S3 Vision864. Which is the best card to put in. Everything else on my computer is the way we bouhgt it.

To be honest both cards aren't up to much, but the TNT 2 is the better of the bunch. Although you could buy a new cheap video card with better specs.

Yeah but I'm a newb and this is a good start for me...If I install this successfully then I might get a new one. Also, think I could overclock this card
But for now...Can someone please tell me how to install this thing?
I need to convince my dad that a video card is a good mod for a computer.

I just installed my 864. i tried to add it in control panel add hardware but it says device can't start. i dont care how much it will help or whatever...Just please help me with what I've got. Thanks in Advance

Ok I just installed the right driver I think and now when I rebooted, its at 4 bit and 640/800 res. I'm so mad right now. Should I not have disabled the integrated graphics?

You should adjust your screen settings to better suit your needs, but if you can't go any higher from from 800x600, then re-enable the int. graphics.

To change screen settings:
Right click desktop wallpaper.
Go to Properties.
Go to Settings, and adjust the bars.

If that card can't handle better, then it's junk. Plus, it ain't worth overclocking, believe me. It really can't handle a stable overclock without proper cooling, and it wouldn't be a substantial overclock at all.

I reenabled integrated graphics it wont let me adjust anything with the s3. i want tyo install the tnt2 but i only have pci slots. Crappy gateway...

If you want to use the video cards, you need to disable the integrated graphics.

i want to make the S3 work but I don't know how. Can somebody just please help me find the right driver. Don't say to search, because I have. I'm just not goood at searching for those things. If it isn't a driver problem, then please help me to make it work.

Windows should automatically recognize the card and install the appropriate drivers (unless you're running an old version of Windows).

Ok...Well since I'm running Windows Xp how do I get this thing to work...I know this card is better than what I have now...After all...It's integrated graphics. In device manager in says the device cannot start. Thats my problem. Now...How do I fix this

Shutdown, install the card, restart, and Windows should recognize the card.

Try this,

First take out any video cards you have in it and boot up with the integrated one. (make sure you enable the integrated one before you do this!!!)

Start windows up.

Start, Settings, Control Panel, System.

When it pops up click on the Hardware tab.

There should be a button somewhere in there that says "Device Manager" Click it.

A window will pop up with device categlories, you need to click on the [+] to the left of "Display Adapters". If there is a video card listed in there other than your integrated one, right click on it and click uninstall.

Once thats done restart and disable the integrated card.

Shut it off, install your new card.

Turn it on and when windows is done loading you should get a popup saying something about new hardware. If you click that it should take you too a wizard that will search for drivers for the card.

If it cant find the drivers you will have to download and install them manually.
Just write down the card name, model, whatever else is on the card to identify it.
Then go to the manufactures website and you should be able to get the drivers there.

Hope that helps, let us know how it turns out.

S3 Vision864 tm 64. The guy who gave it to me said it was a 64mb card. I wish i could install my tnt2 but I don't have agp slots.

Well, they never made a driver for that card with windows xp... I have found some drivers that might work. Download it them here.

Instructions are in the zip.

Good luck, i dont think your going to have much though, you really oughta buy a new card if you have the money, this **** is easy as cake if you have fairly recent hardware...
