Man builds Impreza quad bike
Top Gear Magazine
The sort of stupidity that breeds a Subaru Impreza STi-based quad bike can only be found in the remotest parts of the world.

Take New Zealand, for instance. Here's a country cut off from the rest of the right-thinking world, a place so isolated that they need to fill their time somehow.

Ken Brough has filled his time building just such a quad, and his reasoning for it? "Why not?"

Complete with a 230bhp turbocharged 'flat' four engine, the 530kg quad has a power-to-weight ratio of 434bhp per tonne, or more than twice a normal Scooby's.

The original Impreza's four-wheel drive is still in place, and Ken describes the quad as "awesomely quick".

Even with four-wheel drive, the STi-ATV - as Ken calls his machine - manages to lift up the front wheels under hard acceleration to do wheelies.

If you fancy one for yourself, Ken is thinking of making a few more STi-ATVs. Now, where can we book a flight to New Zealand? Sounds like our kind of place.

WHOA! i would love to have on of those! cruising in the woods with those........WHOOOO!

With those big rims and low-profile street tires, that thing is useless for off-roading, unless you just want to tear up gravel roads rally-style. Still, it's a crazy idea, and you gotta give him credit for all the work he did converting it over.

One question, though -- how did he convert the gearbox to an ATV-style shifter? Or do you still have to stir the gears by hand?

As Radicool02 said it is old, but still awesome, love to take it for a spin.

Come to think of it, don't those look like R34 rims?

They are aftermarket rims that resemble R34 GTR rims.
