Newbie help please

Morning everyone :D

Newbie here, been lurking for a while everyone seems very helpful and have picked up lots of hints and tips on my quest to finish GT3. I've got just over 60% and starting to wane a bit, its starting to get a bit of a chore to be honest but I'm determined to get there.

Wonder if you could offer a bit of advice (tried to search but with no luck). I'm struggling on the Professional MR Laguna Seca race, I've done the other 2 in my GT40 but I get my ass severely whipped by the other GT40 at Laguna Seca and don't know why. My other fast MR cars, the Esprite and Zonda are, lets face it, a pig to control, so do you reckon the GT40 is my best option and just to persevere?

Other observations on the game - I love the Seattle circuit soooo much, could drive round it all day. Fave cars in my garage are the fully loaded RUF RGT and I found the Vertigo very useful earlier in the game.

Do you have a F1 car? Use that, if you do.

The cars you have should do the job in the first place, though. I suggest go back to the License Tests, and try to get gold. It sounds like you need to learn better car control.

BTW, welcome to GTP!
 
it depends on what cars you have....there are a host of mr cars that can walk that race....
 
I think I did it in a 400bhp NSX-R, with T3's. I remember having a bit of hassle with from the GT40. Maybe you should do a bit of run and setting on Laguna Seca with the car. Also, what tyre compound and amount of bhp does your car have?
 
I would suggest not using the gt40... Its brakes are not as good as some of hte other cars... A nsx may be the easiest car (non race car) to win it with... Take a mr car that you have used before and practice on that course until you can beat the gt40's time... all it will take is a bit of practice... i remember mr cars being a bit difficult for me to get fast in a while back... now i absolutely love them...
 
do you have the Kiara ZZII?

if you dont then try and win it.....it will win that race with ease...
 
The ZZII is 4wd, with a mid mounted engine. So that's a nogo. Unless you mean the ZZ-S? I might just buy the ZZ-S to see if I can do the pro MR in it.
 
Thanks for the advice, I'll try some other cars and see how I get on. I'll do the Speedway Enduro another couple of times and get an F1 car and see how that goes :D

Race Idiot - I normally upgrade as much as I can to get the BHP and slap some hard tyres on to last the distance. Probably not the most scientific policy but the hwole tuning thing totally confuses me.

Hey ho, it looks like more practice for me. My wife will be so chuffed, more time on the PS2 :lol:

I actually did do it with a Zonda C12S with race suspension and transmission, sport brakes with balancer, engine balance, and Lightweight 1, for a margin of about +6.mid" over the GT40. This is the same car I used in the Italian Avant Garde. I ran T3s and didn't pit.

The Zonda is actually a good car if you get it dialled in, and it's quite fun to drive. I believe there are settings for it posted on the "Settings and Tuning" board.

Cheers Neon :bowdown: I've looked through the "settings" forum and have some options for the Zonda which I'll give a shot. I mean, its only one race, I can suffer the Zonda for that length of time surely? :p Problem is, I'm a "jam brakes on and hope the best" kind of person so I'll have to learn to be a bit more subtle.

Brake about twice as far in advance as you normally would, then, and you'll get along famously with the Zonda. It may help you with other cars, too; I noticed a big improvement in my lap times once I really understood what "slow in, fast out" means.

Let's see...From the compendium... I ran this set in the GT40 as well. Race car If I recall correctly.

Laguna Seca:
Settings:
Brakes: 19/15
LSD: 12/23/20
ASM = 0; TCS = 0
Down Force: R=0.91

Upgrades:
Stage 2 NA, Full suspension, tranny and all the good stuff.
Fast lap of 1'21.253 and total time of 12'03.056. This was a win by 0.384 seconds.

By no means consider me a pro level driver. These notes were taken well over a year ago, and I'm currently in division 3 of the weekly racers.

Practice will help you improve on this track. One thing that really helped my time on this track, was braking earlier than I thought I should and rolling through the corkscrew in gear higher than I thought I should. This kept the car stable and smooth through that portion. The added benefit was getting on the gas sooner coming down the hill in a car that was ready for it.

:D Great thread you've started (& a welcome relief from many lately!) Can't add much to the excellent advice already offered except: Race it in the Zonda until you can beat the AI. Then take out some HP & run until you can win it again, repeat, repeat, etc.
You'll find that the LESS HP you have the better the Zonda will handle & once you figure it out every other MR car in the game will be a "Snap" to drive fast. JMO ...UB57

Less HP you say, UB57 ..... its a cunning plan ........ may give it a go. I tried my RUF cheap convertible thingy (you know the one I mean) and it didin't disgrace itself and kept up for a while so lower HP may not be as terrifying as it seems. I mean, come on, doing the Vitz professional series makes me shudder just thinking about it :lol:
 
ugh tell me about it....I just ran the vitz pro cup, but luckily since all the opponent vitz's are matched, the points standings are very spread out....in other words i only did the first 3 out of 5 races and still won the championship by a ton of points! I got the peridot pearl supra too!!

HOLY CRIPES was that test course a snore with the vitz....but it's soooooo easy why do people complain that they can't beat that one? don't they know how to flick the auto setting up for the gears? my vitz was pushing over 160mph on the straights with under 300hp while the others were doing 118!
I'd rather watch slugs crawl over rocks in my back yard than race that race again....yikes
 
Nobody likes the Esprit? I used it for this series. I beat the series but lost a few races, went back and cleaned up with the F686/M, although the Esprit could have done it. And, it gets my vote for coolest spoiler.

went in in 17 mins and she didnt wanna know me! told her she was a sook :p
 
Women ....... they just down understand. We can cuddle anytime, but when a race is finely balanced its just not the right time. She's actually pretty well trained now and knows to check the screen for how many laps I've got left and also that when tyres are orange/red, its not a good time to start a conversation with me :lol:

:D Boy am I ENVIOUS!!! :sick: When I played in the Living Room (which I no longer do) some member of my extended family would always "Lay in wait" for the Worst Possible time to walk between me & the screen. I swear, if GT3 had a Track w/5 mile straights & "Hairpin Turns" they'd ALWAYS disrupt my line of sight just as I was "Diving into the CORNER" & NEVER on the straights!!!...UB57

How about rying a Toyota GT-One Road or Race Car or the Nissan R390 GT1 Road or Race Car.
