GRAND THEFT AUTO 4: EUROPE?

UK games mag hints at next-gen Grand Theft Auto - is it going to be set a bit closer to home this time?

While the Italian-American hijinks present in the Grand Theft Auto series have an undeniable appeal, the patriots in us tingle at the thought of some more UK-ccentric action.

According to PSM, a Rockstar rep has revealed that the next generation GTA will be set in Europe, with a total of 6 cities featured in the game. The mag also states that the game will be officially unveiled at this year's E3 show and will a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Interestingly, PSM also suggests that GTA4 will be released as early as the end of this year, alongside the PS3 itself. The mag writes that a "proper" GTA is released every two years, and speculates that 2006 is ripe for the next-gen sequel.

What with the GTA developer being located here in good old Blighty, it's only a matter of time before Europe gets the full-on GTA treatment. As for whether there's any truth to the rumour though, we only have to wait a few months to find out folks.
 
That would be awesome if its gonna be set in Europe, be a nice change from the bustling cities. I remember when GTA London 1969 came out, lol, that was teh pwnz. Razzing around in an E-Type Jag outside Buckingham Palace was fun
 
I'd rather have GTA: Australasia.
 
I'd also prefer Asia, but then again, as long as we have a huge world with many things to do, a lot of animated objects, cities full of life and maybe no pop ups etc, I'm happy with any location tbh....

Anyway, been looking for info on this for a while. Nice to have it in Europe, let's hope one of the cities is in a Venice style :D
 
I hope they put some most of the auto bahns in game.
 
6 cites, that's going to be huge. Twice the size of San Andreas, it's going to take awhile to drive from point A to point Z.

there have been rumours in the industry that The Next Big Thing in gaming will be tbe virtualisation of real-world cities. So, instead of running around in realistic, but non-existent enviroments - you have live cities which you can actually visit for less than the price of the game, if you don't mind flying low-cost airlines.

Is it just me or has The Getaway already done this with its ultra-realistic London featuring precisely located streets and shops and even going far enough to include 3D models of both my house and school. This isn't big news, this has been done several times (the FS series is another example).

Also having a GTA based in Britain means doing away with ammunations, hate to break it to you guys but sale of firearms to anyone without an (almost impossible to obtain unless you have completed a British army APC) advanced firearms licence is a serious offense. Due to this I can only think of one gun shop in London, a city with a population of around seven and a half million.

Yes, but the Getaway is a different game altogether. It has fully branded cars, but with rather wooden handling IMO. GTA has had made up, although very similar to real life cars, with decent handling. GTA has always concentrated on how nice it is to play, rather than how realistic the buildings and cars look. Sure, i'd love both, but i personally prefer a nice game to the novelty of driving cars you see everyday.

I'd love to see a European version of GTA, although i don't want them to make out that we're all chimney sweeps with cockney accents :lol:

I agree with you GTA is a much better game but what I was in disagreement with was the use of the term "The Next Big Thing" which implies that having a real city in a game will be particularly groundbreaking.

Crumpets are nice, cotney accents arn't, have bad guy's based on scousers, geordies, mancs and cotneys, that'd confuse the hell out of American's as to where the games meant to be based ;):lol:.

The home design store, buy working replica firearms and weapons as seen in movies ect, you don't need that licence to buy from there. Also, dodgy underground purchases, instead of having a shop, have a guy you can call who'll set a meeting point not far from you somewhere quiet, and when you get there he's in a car with a load of weapons in the boot ect.
 
I dont mind where the next GTA will be set. Im buying it 👍

Anyway, I'm in agreeance with Dion. Wherever the next GTA is set, I'll still buy it. However, I'm liking the London direction. A lot of good crime storylines can be placed in the game from here, with the Jamaicans, Triads, London Mob, and so on. The Getaway was on the right path with this, however there was absolutely nothing to do outside of the storyline, which was incredibly disappointing.

This is something that I expect Rockstar to improve on, as always, and take the game to a new level. However, one thing I hope that Rockstar has learnt is that cramming features into the game without too much thought and giving the illusion of detail doesn't work. They really have to spend a lot of time on each feature of the game, and make sure it doesn't become too repetitive, too irritating, and too hard to understand.

I liked the direction that San Andreas was headed in, however I didn't like the game itself. It almost seemed like a test version for the next game in the series, and didn't seem complete at all.

Another thing that I'm really anxious to learn is whether Rockstar will implement a type of download feature, utilising the PS3's online capabilities, in which we can download modifications, updates, and whether GTA could be a more "live" game, if you understand what I mean.

Either way, I'm sure it shouldn't be too far away before we start learning bits and pieces about PS3's opening Grand Theft Auto game, and I'm more than anxious right now to hear little bits of information. Especially how far they've gotten and a possible release date, straight from the horse's mouth.

Lets hope for that, if there's one nice city in Europe it's Amsterdam:p With the small canals and high tall buildings, the density of the city and stuff like it, I think it would be absolutely incredible.

But offcourse Amsterdam is just not popular enough to beat London.
 
GTA is GTA is GTA. Doesnt matter where its at. OMG, I cant wait, if there is anything I love as much as GranTurismo, its Grand Theft Auto.
 
Hm, IGN has said that GTA4 will launch simultaneously for PS2 and X360, so I wouldn't hold my breath on any of this info.

Twice the size of SA? If that is true... I'm getting it.

In SA I just spend my time in SF (San Fierro) since i live next to SF in RL. It's fun driving down the steep streets in a big ol' can. I hope theres somthign like this in the next one.
 
Personally, I believe the cities in GTA: 4 should be London, Birmingham and Manchester, the only problem is that unlike America, in England you don't see a Ferrari on every street corner, you see Fiestas and Mondeos. And another thing is, it would be raining almost all of the time, but then again, it's been rather sunny the past week, soooo...
 
imagine if you could go to your own house! although, it'd have to have a bugatti veyron outside to be 100% accurate.:sly:

Finally Europe!!!!! Yipppeee..... You will be able to get like the London Mafia etc etc .... and because most of europe you can drive across for real it would suit GTA really well...... and you thought S.A was big! they are gonna model the whole of Europe! :lol:
