Hmmm...

Leftlanenews.com
60 Minutes on Sunday ran a special on the state of General Motors, its recovery plan, and its future. During the show, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz and CEO Rick Wagoner previewed a new Cadillac model believed to be the 2008 CTS. While we suspect it may be an upcoming concept, several LLN tipsters insist it is very close to the production model. See all the images after the jump…

Well, I'm kinda split on this one. I didnt see the interview with Lutz and Wagoner, but the pictures do lead me to one conclusion: The new CTS was designed with Europe in mind. It doesnt look bad, but I think they need to turn it down just a bit. However, I can't wait to see what it would look like in V-spec form!

Looks like they put a lot of stylin cues from the sixteen in the new CTS...I think I like it.

Uh oh...maybe it's just that picture, but the grille on that Caddy seems rather Audi-esque in size and obnoxiousness...

Yeah, that grille looks pretty bad. The Cadillac symbol looks bigger than a fist.

I'll reserve judgment until I see the full car, but from thoes glipses it looks better than the current CTS.

...The car should be debuting in less than two weeks. The New York Auto Show starts on the 12th (if I remember correctly), and there are going to be quite a few new model introductions to be done there by days end.

This car is going to be enormous. Look how long the front hood seems to be in the one profile shot. I would really like to see how long this car is. Hopefully it wont have some stubby rear with its ass end all in the air.

I really don't like the new cadilalc desgins , and I don't think I'm going to like this one either

I'll reserve final judgement until I see the whole thing, but from what I can see so far, I like it. It's kind of a baby Sixteen, and has the sort of boldness and swagger that Cadillacs (along with most other American marques) used to be known for. 👍

/me wants to see the car in a "Super" CTS-V form. I think this might be an improvement if they get rid of the high door look and wide+tall ass. The front "Audi" sized grille actually appeals to me--along with what I THINK the rear-end looks like. I'll leave my final judgment when I see the car in person.

Offtopic: I'm going to the Dallas Auto Show on Sat. and will be taking some pics on my cell along with my brother's digital camera. Hope to see some good stuff. :D

...I herd a rumor, and I don't recall where, but there is a test mule of a CTS Coupe rolling around in Detroit. Could that be the Super CTS-V meant to compete with the new V8 M3?

It would be interesting to see what the car would look like with two doors...

Yup there is a test mule around, I haven't seen it myself, but it was inside Autoweek and it did have Michigan M plates on it.

Is that a scale model in the pictures? - it looks tiny.

In the last two pictures the front of the car (compared to the hight of the guy on the right) must be no wider than 4.5 foot! - the steering wheel in the last pic look to be the size of a single seater item.

I think it's just a couple of funny perspectives that have exagerrated distance. The firts three pics look fine but on the alst ones there a bit odd, for example look at the guy's far hand in the last pic, looks a lot smaller than it should be. If you compare parts of car that are next to part of one of the guys it all looks proportionate, the bonnet and boot come up as high as you'd expect, the guy's hand next to the head rest looks right ect.

From what I can see so far it doesnt look bad at all. The front grille is even bigger than audi ones but very similiar to that of the audi A8/S8. I think this car looks very classy.

...See what I mean when I say the car was designed with the European market in mind...

But I don't see it as a bad thing, maybe the price will appeal to some Europeans as long as GM doesn't go nuts with the price like they did on the Vette. People may buy it in Europe for exclusitivity which is very important to alot of them but doesn't mean squat in the USA as a whole. The one thing they need to remedy is the cheap feeling interior. If they can solve the typical American cheap/ugly interior plague that will put it over the top I believe. I can't wait to see one in person--first time in a long time an American "luxury" car has peaked my interest.

It most certainly is NOT a bad thing. Cadillac needs to have some sort of representation in Europe, and although as I understand the BLS and CTS have been fairly well accepted, they are nowhere near as popular in the minds of most people as the 3-series or C-class. Top Gear seemed to be OK with the CTS, and with an Audi-like design and better mechanical design, the CTS could be a big hit in Europe if they build it right.

BTW: How well is the BLS doing in Europe anyway?

The BLS has been released in the UK now? Didnt know havent seen one, but on the impreza forum theyre just calling it a redressed saab which is a redressed vauxhall. They do generally like saabs as a cheaper alternative to audi's bmw's etc but they wouldnt buy one new because it depreciates so much. People are unsure about a caddys residuals so I reckon sales would be slow because of it.

Also there doesnt seem to be many caddilac dealers.

Edit.

It hasnt been released it. It doesnt look to bad.Quite nice actually. Could see people who dont know much about cars buying these on the basis of the price, badge and just wnating something different.

Heres what whatcar.com thinks of it.

Actually now comparing a Saab 9-3 aero hot 2.0T to a FWD audi a4 2.0T FSI the saab makes no sense. The audi has nearly twice the storage space, has less power but a more racier, revving engine which so makes it faster to 0-60 and it has a higher topspeed. Its also £3,000 cheaper than the saab. It also gets better fuel economy.

It makes no sense to buy a saab. Cadillac is going to have to other come those tings to take sales from the likes of audi and BMW.

At first look, the interior design looks vastly improved over the current car. I'm digging it.

That's what I'm thinking--I still will hold my reservations until I see one in person and feel the interior plastics before making my complete judgement. But based on looks from those pics I'd say Cadillac has made an improvement. Still not an Audi or BM but not too shaby either.

You mean you won't just judge it based on grainy, small screenshots from an episode of 60 minutes that seems to have been shot with a weird lens? :D

...Yeah, the BLS is baisicly an over-glorified Saab 9-3 Sedan, but with a bit more Cadillac flair than Saab quirkyness. The same platform underpins the Chevrolet Malibu/Malibu Maxx and Pontiac G6, as well as the upcomming Saturn Aura. All of which can trace their roots directly to the Vauxhall/Opel Vectra, of which the Malibu Maxx shares some body pannels, and the Aura being an exact replica of the Opel Vectra.

The CTS has been slightly refreshed for 2007, presumably in preparation for the upcomming 2008 CTS replacement...

Cadillac are going to have to practically give it away to drag people from their BMW/Audi/Mercs - especially with it being based on a Saab/Vectra. Cadillac has almost zero image in Europe at the moment. Refrying something we are already indifferent to isn't going to help.

I can only remember ever seing one modern Caddy in the Uk - so probably not too well.
