Dubai seems to be the "cool" place to test cars these days...

Wonder how expensive it would be to go there on vacation?

Id like to know aswell. Id love to go there, or even live there TBH. A car enthusiasts dream.

Just don't drive over 130 or so on the rural desert roads--it doesn't take much to sandblast paint right off a front bumper.

So I'm assuming the purpose of testing all over the world is to test the car out in all weather conditions?

All Weather, All Road, probably doing localized suspension tuning, trying to get as many different temperatures/humidity variables as they can.

BMW likes to overtest, but it pays off.

New M3 looks like a flop style wise. Long live the RS4/5!!!!!!! And why does it look exactly like a near 2 year old photoshop????

Bad BMW.

It's really close. It might not even be a photoshop....

I'm not seeing -- at all -- why BMW is held in such high regard these days, design-wise. The 7 looks flabby and the rump is bumpy. The 5 looks like carved obsidian, with the swoopy, sharp-edged curves. The 3, coupe or sedan, is hit and miss. The front of the coupe with the rear of the sedan works far better...or do I have that backwards? The coupe looks way too long in profile anyway. The Z is okay, so long as I don't have to look at the headlights. Actually, I hate all of BMW's headlights.

And I'm all for an Audi coupe. How long has it been since Audi's had a truly sports-oriented 2-door? Twenty years, with the ur-Quattro?

Wow, I wonder if that Autobild shot was insider knowledge, or if BMW is aping it to throw people off, either way...

I love it.

BMW's were funny looking, weird cars for a long time, glad to see them turning people off with their funny looking weirdness again. Long Live Bangle!

I'd say the car looks fine for the most part, as I have become someone immune to the "shock" that BMW has had with their Bangle designs and overuse of flame-surfacing.

Nothing will ever match the clean looks of the E36 M3 however...

I thought the E36 was the beginning of the end.

Too clean, too boring, too...normal, give me something wild looking like a 3.0 CSi.

I can't see how BMW can top the looks of the E46 M3.

I can't see how BMW can top the looks of the E46 M3.

Exactly why I'm never getting anything but the E46 unless they can modernize the E46 design without totally changing it's appereance and individuality.

If that made sense...

E46 = simply the masterpiece of BMW, never to be made again.

I'm sorry.

No.

That is hotter than an E46 M3.

That is the current pinnacle of BMW design.

the back I like, the front I dont.

TT MK2 > Z4 Coupe

E46 > TT MK2

Im still not big on the new TT, but it is an Audi, so that shouldn't be a surprise.

The E46 was one of the worst looking BMW's in my opinion, because it was so damn bland, ironic that it's the one everyone loves the most, but it was TOO boring, TOO average, TOO normal, I'll not lament it's passing.

The E46 was a great car, and it will be missed. But I still long for the BMWs of the late '80s and '90s when they still were trying to prove that they were one of the best car companies in the world. They were a bit daring, ocasionally avant-garde with cars like the 318, M-Coupe and Z8.

Today, they can pretty much do as they please because they are BMW. Granted, their products are great, and are argueably the standards in every situation. But I'll miss the days of the "crude" BMW.

Oh come on, Z4 won't win any awards for good looks - it looks weird to my eyes.

GT4_Rule
it looks weird to my eyes.

It's supposed too.

IT'S A BMW!

They aren't supposed to be bland boring cars like the E46.

I swear, it's just absurdly boring, yes, the M3 is great and all, but it got fat, and it got too smooth.

The last cool 3 series to me was the 318ti, because it was weird, like it should have been.

The new 3 Series looks weird again, yay!

I may differ from most, I'm a fan of older BMW's, having owned one myself.

I think edgier styling and a smaller double-crest (ala 2006 Z coupe) on the hood of the new M3 would've wrapped the whole package up nicely.

Onikaze
The new 3 Series looks weird again, yay!
Yeah, but pre-E46 Beamers looked weird in a good way. The E90 looks weird in a very, very bad way.

Completly destroys this:

Also, Zorro strikes again!

Well, the E36 was the beginning of the end to me.

While I could afford an E36 car, the only one I'd even consider getting is the 318ti, the rest showed too many signs of BMW trying to appease people with bland styling.

Since when was the 5 or 6 series good looking? They finially fixed the 7 series, and the Z4 only looks good with a roof, thus far IMO the 1 and 3 series models are really the only naturally good looking cars in the Bimmer line.

I think the 5 Series looks great, 6 Series looks much better in person.

Same with the new 3.

Again, glad to see they're putting some weirdness into them again.
