and what about that blue "Sports Cars" tab that's been sitting restlessly for such a long time?
There are a lot of options in the AdminCP, but I'm not testing the style on this forum at all so there is no way for him to find it.Theres that many options?
Yes, there will be a new color scheme and a new header, things will be moved around, and the code and design will be faster and more efficient. I think the color of all text (black) and the title bar text (the yellow text visible on the red title bars in tables) are the only colors that are not changed. When you say that the site will be completely redesigned, does that also mean a totally different color scheme?
Ah, I'm afraid it won't be making a return appearance in GTP 5.Ooh!, and what about that blue "Sports Cars" tab that's been sitting restlessly for such a long time?

Haha, you'll just have to wait and see!I know you hate us all for bugging you about GTP 5, but please tell me that there's also going to be a new car in the upper left!!
OK, here's a shot of the top of the main options page for the forum. I've also posted a screenshot of the vB Code section here.Lets see a screen shot of the admin CP!

Please?
No, I don't plan on including them. The advantages of their removal far outweigh the disadvantages (if any).Originally posted by alex_gt
Well the poll show's what the majority think Jordan andis what we make it?

Post numbers is a hugely contentious subject. Personally, I'm not sure that it really makes any odds, and that waht's more important is the content of the posts, rather than how many posts a user has made.
What we're really looking for is a key to see how to rate what someone has said. All too often, someone will say something, and just because they have less than 5000 posts, some smart Alec will claim to know more, simply because they've made more posts themselves.
Can contribution to GTP be measured simply in # posts? Emphatically, not, and you only need to see that Jordan is halfway down the top posters page to see proof of that.
Fundamentally, I try to judge people based upon what they're saying, rather than how long they've been here, or how much they've said. Since publishing the number of posts seems to be other people's way of making judgements, there have been occasions where contributions to the community have suffered in the name of someone trying to 'acquire' seniority by posting loads of messages that contribute little to the threads in which they feature.
The more that people try to use their intelligence to make up their own minds about individual contributions, the better. Short-cuts to evaluation of a forum user are generally a bad thing, and are hugely unreliable anyway.
In light of this, I'm broadly in support of removal of measures which allow people to take these short cuts instead of making a reasoned decision, and I'm definitely not in favour of people who use the tendency to take these short cuts in an attempt to gain seniority in a community which they have not taken the appropriate time to assess.

1. Wheres MistaX? - He got his own forum?
2. There was some more people gone.

I actually like GTP for it's fast paced community, members and newbies alike always contributing to the forums
I'm really not understanding how removing postcounts will make it a "bad" forum... like I've said, I've been to plenty of forums, and I've found that all of the best didn't have post counts...Originally posted by alex_gt
ah but if Jordan wants to maintain a Good forum?
I don't care if it is the "popular" thing to do or not; I am going to do my best to steer my community in the direction that I think is best for it.Jordan as with making a product, a forum should be made for the people using it and therefore you need to find out what we as members like and dislike
The poll shows clearly that the majority want the post count to remain, however there others agree it should go, so to keep both sides it would be sensible to have it as an option?
And if we get a mike kid in these forums, postcount or no post count he'll still get bored from time to time and post one word replies?
Here's a forum that contains the most educated, interesting, and helpful members I have ever seen. Each forum on the site is full of invaluable information in insightful and interesting posts. They don't display any post counts in threads - they never have - and I'd still consider it a "good forum", wouldn't you?ah but if Jordan wants to maintain a Good forum?

Alex, just stop and think about this for a few minutes. OK, lets say we've got two new members, Mike and Joe. Mike is 13 years old with a very short attention span, generally bad attitude, and is an AOL user who uses "1337" so much that it has made its way into his offline vocabulary. He asks a few questions and gets a few answers, then starts noticing post counts and his lack of a significant one. He then proceeds to make his way through miscellaneous threads posting stupid one-liners that annoy and irritate (like "what?" and smilie trains). As he gets more and more heat for what he's doing, he gets mad and angry, ruffling everyone's feathers as less-informed members cry "the site is going to hell!" Then we've got a big uproar because of some kid with no life who got excited about his post count. Could it still have happened if there weren't post counts below usernames? Sure. Is it as likely to happen? No.
Now, take our second new member, Joe. Joe is a friendly, responsible, witty, intelligent, and tactful person who is ready to contribute to the community all that he can. After a few posts, he thinks he might like this forum idea. As people respond to his posts, he engages them in a lively conversation and debate, contributing real knowledge and valuable information to GTP. As he continues to do this, he forms friendships, explores other forums and becomes involved in many other community activities. Why did he do all of this? He's here for the people, for the community, and he's not shallow enough to be concerned with a postcount below his name.
