Umm... right...

Anyway, I suspect that Jordan is just keeping the files on his computer, and will quickly upload them to the server when the day comes. :)

Just one more question (suuuuurre!:D): When you say that the site will be completely redesigned, does that also mean a totally different color scheme? Ooh!, and what about that blue "Sports Cars" tab that's been sitting restlessly for such a long time? :) Oh, and how about... :smilewink

Couldn't agree more.

and what about that blue "Sports Cars" tab that's been sitting restlessly for such a long time?

Jordan and I have already discussed this - it's going to be a new car company with production capacity rivaling Honda.

Theres that many options?
There are a lot of options in the AdminCP, but I'm not testing the style on this forum at all so there is no way for him to find it.

When you say that the site will be completely redesigned, does that also mean a totally different color scheme?
Yes, there will be a new color scheme and a new header, things will be moved around, and the code and design will be faster and more efficient. I think the color of all text (black) and the title bar text (the yellow text visible on the red title bars in tables) are the only colors that are not changed.

Ooh!, and what about that blue "Sports Cars" tab that's been sitting restlessly for such a long time?
Ah, I'm afraid it won't be making a return appearance in GTP 5. :(

I know you hate us all for bugging you about GTP 5, but please tell me that there's also going to be a new car in the upper left!!

Please?

Haha, you'll just have to wait and see! :p

Lets see a screen shot of the admin CP!
OK, here's a shot of the top of the main options page for the forum. I've also posted a screenshot of the vB Code section here.

Ahh the Admin CP, I remember when I was an Admin over at another website, thanks Jon:p My thoughts on post counts....get rid of them, I'm tired of looking at that number seeing how many times I wasted a good deal of my time whoring in that oh so big thread:nervous: I wish you could delete those posts Jordan, or just reset mine to zero because I dont like the number I have. Granted it was all fun and games when I was the first to reach 5,000 but after that I realized that at least 1/5 of that number was shameless unthoughtful postwhoreing and I'm ashamed of it.

If it matters Jordan, I wouldnt mind stareing at a GT90, Carrea GT or McLaren F1 for the next year :)

No, I don't plan on including them. The advantages of their removal far outweigh the disadvantages (if any).

I have been at this forum for nearly a year!

Anyway I haven't made 1000 posts yet but I hope to do 1000 posts per year at GTPlanet!

I have come and gone from GTP because of other interests, apart from this nerdish circle of photoshoppers, mazda lovas and post whores (aka spammers) the forum is remotely how it used to be.

It used to be a tight knit community - before I came along it was even close I believe it was like the previous poster was your neighbour. Anyway this forum goes through its changes - the come of text and marques and numerous questions to the honourable Jordan about new this and that.

Jordan has done his job and may I say very well. The forum needs to change along with its members but one thing I hate at this forum is newbies that post 200000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 posts a day all for what? Recognision that your a spammer? With the post counts gone spamming will not be realised from post counts but the how many times the avatar appears per thread.
The spamming will not stop necessarily they know will wont custom headers! - I do but isn't a neceity!

When the day comes GTP will change so it will be appreciate or hated I won't mind I haev adjusted before so I can do it again!
It's good to see Loud popping his head at GTP now and again.

Now I have some questions!

1. Wheres MistaX? - He got his own forum?
2. There was some more people gone.

Now don't call me lazy for not searching because Im know I'm lazy!

Cheers!

Gigo are you suggesting that Newbies perhaps should post less and therefore make :gtp: just another one of these 🤬 forums with like 1 post per week?

I actually like GTP for it's fast paced community, members and newbies alike always contributing to the forums

Post numbers is a hugely contentious subject. Personally, I'm not sure that it really makes any odds, and that waht's more important is the content of the posts, rather than how many posts a user has made.

What we're really looking for is a key to see how to rate what someone has said. All too often, someone will say something, and just because they have less than 5000 posts, some smart Alec will claim to know more, simply because they've made more posts themselves.

Can contribution to GTP be measured simply in # posts? Emphatically, not, and you only need to see that Jordan is halfway down the top posters page to see proof of that.

Fundamentally, I try to judge people based upon what they're saying, rather than how long they've been here, or how much they've said. Since publishing the number of posts seems to be other people's way of making judgements, there have been occasions where contributions to the community have suffered in the name of someone trying to 'acquire' seniority by posting loads of messages that contribute little to the threads in which they feature.

The more that people try to use their intelligence to make up their own minds about individual contributions, the better. Short-cuts to evaluation of a forum user are generally a bad thing, and are hugely unreliable anyway.

In light of this, I'm broadly in support of removal of measures which allow people to take these short cuts instead of making a reasoned decision, and I'm definitely not in favour of people who use the tendency to take these short cuts in an attempt to gain seniority in a community which they have not taken the appropriate time to assess.

I'm not saying that people should be judged on there post count, but isn't it an incentive for people to stay on :gtp: by letting them build up a post count, I look at my post count and feel proud to be a member?

Especially for newbies, they'll feel encouraged by starting to bulid there post numbers up?

Gone: Josh, Mistax, Rumple (temporarily).

John wasn't happy about the way GTP had become and thought he had failed as a mod. Therefore he left.

MistaX went anti-GTP all of a sudden and started www.mistax.net.

Alex, just stop and think about this for a few minutes. OK, lets say we've got two new members, Mike and Joe. Mike is 13 years old with a very short attention span, generally bad attitude, and is an AOL user who uses "1337" so much that it has made its way into his offline vocabulary. He asks a few questions and gets a few answers, then starts noticing post counts and his lack of a significant one. He then proceeds to make his way through miscellaneous threads posting stupid one-liners that annoy and irritate (like "what?" and smilie trains). As he gets more and more heat for what he's doing, he gets mad and angry, ruffling everyone's feathers as less-informed members cry "the site is going to hell!" Then we've got a big uproar because of some kid with no life who got excited about his post count. Could it still have happened if there weren't post counts below usernames? Sure. Is it as likely to happen? No.

Now, take our second new member, Joe. Joe is a friendly, responsible, witty, intelligent, and tactful person who is ready to contribute to the community all that he can. After a few posts, he thinks he might like this forum idea. As people respond to his posts, he engages them in a lively conversation and debate, contributing real knowledge and valuable information to GTP. As he continues to do this, he forms friendships, explores other forums and becomes involved in many other community activities. Why did he do all of this? He's here for the people, for the community, and he's not shallow enough to be concerned with a postcount below his name.

So, what kind of person do you think would be the best member? Which one would care more about their post count? You've got to look at the big picture here.

You didn't really get what I meant. - newbies need too adjust to GTP you can't be a loser like Jordan suggested and post 1 liners like I have done on occasions. I didn't mean to abuse newbies and say they suck but they need to know that you need to post quality!

I for one think post counts shouldnt be removed seeing how i just reached 200 a few days ago. however, on the other side of the issue, I do agree that it should be removed so members with higher post counts wont pick on members with lower counts. But, I do like knowing how many posts i have and not having to go search for it in my profile. I thought the PPD was cool but it inaccurate because i know i post more than 1 a day even though it shows less than that, so i'm kinda glad that was removed.

Edit:
And now that I have read Jordan's latest post in this thread, I really agreed with him on the issue. post counts should be removed... it will stop a lot of bad things from happening.

Jordan as with making a product, a forum should be made for the people using it and therefore you need to find out what we as members like  and dislike :thumbsdow

The poll shows clearly that the majority want the post count to remain, however there others agree it should go, so to keep both sides it would be sensible to have it as an option? :smilewink

And if we get a mike kid in these forums, postcount or no post count he'll still get bored from time to time and post one word replies?

I don't think you can consider GTPlanet as a product Alex, Jordan doesn't profit from it. Therefore he should be able to just do whatever he wants with the site...

I'm really not understanding how removing postcounts will make it a "bad" forum... like I've said, I've been to plenty of forums, and I've found that all of the best didn't have post counts...

I don't care if it is the "popular" thing to do or not; I am going to do my best to steer my community in the direction that I think is best for it.

ah but if Jordan wants to maintain a Good forum?
Here's a forum that contains the most educated, interesting, and helpful members I have ever seen. Each forum on the site is full of invaluable information in insightful and interesting posts. They don't display any post counts in threads - they never have - and I'd still consider it a "good forum", wouldn't you?

km's name is Mike? You misspelled my name also, it's Jim, not Joe.

So are you going to at least fix the license plate in the upper left corner of the banner? It's backwards...

:p

I was wondering if anyone noticed I flipped the car for that image. Very observant! :) You will be happy to know that no images will be backward in GTP5.

Ah, I was checking to see if you remembered that! Good job! ;)
