Next Lap Invalidated

The amount of panty twisting here is amazing, here's an idea, don't drive poorly and you'll manage to get a valid lap after lap.

Terrible post. Driving "poorly..." Get out of here. Good for you if you never push in a time trial.

The problem with the lap invalidation is that sometimes you get it 2-3 corners before the final one so it is completely unwarranted and won't affect you next lap at all. Accidentally slipping up through the inside of a corner or tapping a wall that far away should never take away your next lap. F1 2010 and Prologue already had these problems and GT5 is just the same.

Adding to the pain, like someone else already said, is that each time you restart, your current best time is posted to the record board. Furthermore, you can never delete records individually. So if you like to keep a record of a bunch of different cars and you restart a few times due to this problem you'll have a bunch of times for the current car you're in, messing up your leaderboard. Two poorly designed features working together wonderfully here...

Think of it as extra practice laps so you can stop driving poorly and all over the track.

I hardly see the invalidation as an issue...

The issue is NOT with inalidating the current lap, the issue is with invalidating the next lap/s.

Also I cant believe that so many people here are so amazing at racing and pushing the car to the limit that they havnt ever left the track...

It clearly keeps players from using any part of the track you should not be using.
You know what would also do that? Invalidating the current lap where you actually cut the corner. You know: The kind of thing that makes actual sense to do 95% percent of the time.

I hardly see the invalidation as an issue...
...which is a completely meaningless clarification, because it very clearly is one. There is just one context where invalidating the next lap would be appropriate in real life. One. And GT5 makes no effort to determine whether that context is met in game. You screw up, that's basically two laps down the drain regardless of what the screwup was or if it was beneficial.

Best post in this thread.

I have no problem with the invalidated laps, also I've never even had the next lap invalidated penalty unless it was the last corner being cut.

What really sucks is the way going over some jumps (might be only for course maker tracks) while staying completely over the track can invalidate a lap (it thinks you cut the corner), that can be quite annoying.

I have a track that I have only been able to set one single lap time at because all of the dozens of previous laps have been invalidated because of a jump.

I have no problem with this. Just the real life like Infinion or Leguna Seca. You go off track, your time doesn't count.

I support the "Invalid Lap" feature, but I don't support only having the ability to only delete all your times instead of one. I want to know how fast other car's times instead of my ten X2010 times all with in .4 seconds of eachother, still wanting to keep my 39.761 time on Trail Mountain.

It'll invalidate the next lap even if you do something wrong in the warm-up lap... :odd:

This is to prevent making a strait line to the start/finish line for a fast start to a lap.

Ex: Trail Mountain chicane.

For the lap that you went off on. Which is an important distinction that it seems many people are missing.

Than they should have set it up to invalidate future laps for specific instances. Not carte blanche over the entire lap.

I've usually only been dinged for the "Next Lap Invalidated" on the last 1/4th of the track after the last update. Only rarely have I gotten that message early in a lap when I deliberately went off track or into a wall.

Its annoying going off the track on Nurburgring and then the lap doesn't count even though you made a slight mistake without intending to cheat. It's very inconsistent too. Sometimes you can tap the wall and have your lap invalidated and sometimes you can run clean off the road and drive in the grass for 5 seconds and it's considered acceptable.

Well there's a simple pattern to it, dont cut the inside corner ever. You can drive on the grass on the straights all you want but not around the corners. You can gently tap a wall and get away with it usualy, but hit it hard and you'll likely have your lap invalidated.

I've gotten used to avoiding the inside corners when in practice mode.

I don't mind it, the "next lap invalidated" bit. Learn to drive! Learn those racing lines! I've done countless thousands of practice/time trial laps in previous GTs, and I'm actually glad this edition of GT finally has a few restrictions.

Truthfully, I don't think there enough restrictions in GT5, especially during A-spec mode. I was hoping for black flags and cautions in this game by now.
