Now I know that this post may initially sound like cookamungastupid****, but if you really think about it, the EA's grasp on the NFL lisence could actually be the greatest blessing for Sega and VC. See now, we've all heard that VC is at work on an NFL game using the Playmakers (one of the greatest shows to have been on t.v., IMHO) license. What does all of this mean? Well, for one, it really means that we'll all very soon be playing a gritty, true drama-esque football game that blends the framework and authenticity of the Madden and even-better 2K series with the current trend in today's big games, gritty, violent and gloomy themes, ala the Grand Theft Auto games. If such ends up being the case (as should happen), and if it turns out to be a huge hit both commercially and critically (lesser possibility but hopefully it will on both counts) on GTA-levels, VC and, more importantly, Sega, can finally cement their spot as a major player in video games (though this would be more like a once-again thing for Sega), and Lord knows they need a hit like that, and BAD, or it could end up making Sega go the indie route. So, as you've likely seen from all of this, the acquasation of the Playmakers license could just very well be VC's biggest gain in awhile, and if things go their way, they may not need the NFL license after all in order to have a hit football game. But even moreso, this is the test (the struggle) that will prove, once and for all (figuratively speaking, of course) if Sega has what it takes to become a major player again. Let us all pray that such DOES happen.
