NFS ProStreet Speed Challenge?

I've returned to this game and I'm doing a speed challenge in a Road Runner and am very confused. It worked properly for a couple of runs, but now it tops out at 130mph in 5th gear, nowhere near red line and even when I go down hill it slows down. The car isn't damaged or anything. I'm very confused. Please help.
