Well, I just took my M3 out to try the drifting, and it seems completely unmanageable with the wheel. Car slides a bit then snaps back and then slides more and just doesn't seem to be like a car at all.

Any one else having frustrations with the "Drifting"?
 
on the psp version that i bought, drifting is far too easy. I think that NFS still needs a lot of work in that department. I wouldn't know how it would drift on a console unless they decide to release a demo for it.
 
My 86 I had to turn its understeer way up to make it controllable...there are deadzones you can use to make the cars ALOT more manageable, lettme post them.

There are 2 things you need to do, the 2nd will sound odd though...
Steering Dead Zone-15%
Accel Dead Zone-10%
Brake Dead Zone-10%
Steering sensitivity-5%
Acell Sensitivity -5%
Brake sensitivity-5%
Speed steering Sensitivity 100%

At the main menu enter CAR GARAGE----> TUNING, press 'Y' to enter quick tuning mode.
Under the heading 'balance' move the slider all the way to OVERSTEER. That's right oversteer. Apparently the developer labeled this slider wrong or its a glitch. Turning the slider to oversteer will actually add understeer.

That being said drifting is possible.

As you can see here is the car being run in drift mode.

EDIT these are diff from the settings I was using but I've heard good things and im testing them out right now in drift and circuit

EDIT 2 Having tested these, WOW its like a whole different game...I can tollerate playing it now...everyone try this and spread the word to all those hating the game, what a massive difference it makes.

Well, I've found I can manage with the controller better than my DFP. Wondering if anyone is having much luck with the wheel. I'm also finding myself sitting a gear or two higher than I normally would be at if it was a race, just because of how excessive the tire spin is.
 
I didn't mind the physics, I could drift well enough - but my gripe is that if this game really was made for us sim lovers, why do we have two different physics sets for race and drift?

I actually believe that the drift physics with a bit of tightening up could almost be like GT5P - and then we could've had the one set of physics for both race types.
 
its not really the Initial D one..I just like the panda paint on a 86 and just vinals ...just basicly too 2 rectangle ones for the bottom black part (1 wont streach wide enough) then 2 more for the top stripe, then take a matching body colour vinal and use it to cover about 40% of the top stripe since its to tall.

Then use 2 circles for the black fender flares then its simpley a case of lining up the front and back with black vinals and then the opposite side of the car.

Nice car, Also I'm sure I have seen your name before, You wouldn't happen to be SV from FM.Net from like 2007 would you? I think a long time ago I bought some of your Initial D cars.
 
Not really to be honest you just got to keep at it, I would advise you to try and recreate a livery that doesn't use any curves in it as with this editor it would be almost impossible to recreate.

OT: Good to see you SV 👍 and yes I would be interested in them also do you have the PS3 version or xbox version?

Practice practice practice.
And don't jump in the deep end either - take a lower powered car, and keep at it until you're happy.

I used to be horrendous, now I'm only terrible lol

Just unlocked tier 2 and started doing the drift events. But is it just me or is that impossible. I have no idea about what my speed should be. And no matter what I try I just spin out. I usually try and go in not too fast and then tab the handbrake, but how much throttle should be applied? 10%, 90%? I must admit I am a newb when it comes to drifting. Never caught on in GT5P. But this seems impossible. I really think there should be some tutorial or something.

Exactly my experience as well. As for the event I am trying to do it in second gear and doing small drifts but that doesn´t score any points at all lol
 
the drifting is pretty bad in this game, although i've gotten a lot better, i usually destroy the computer by 1000pts. I'm using a G25, the key is, depending on the car/track/set-up you really don't have to counter-steer too much, i have my wheel set at 900* and i barely have to turn it 90* in either direction (which pisses me off, kills the drifting experience). The throttle has a delay/lag as well which makes it tricky, just need to be in the right gear and start the drift in the right spot. Some of the drift-layouts/tracks are pretty awesome, just the physics are Garbage if you ask me. Drifting in NFS Shift is a joke 👎:yuck:.

Bothers me because i love drifting, great cars, great tracks just stupid physics. Mainly because they give you a different set of physics for drifting than for racing/Grip, so i laugh at anyone who calls this a "sim". Racing is fun and Challenging, but in no way realistic.
 
I've been speaking to our QA experts about this and they're compiling a list of tips for the Drift Mode as you're not alone in finding it really hard. I'll be posting something on NeedforSpeed.com later this week.
 
^^For G25 users, the steering is not 900 degrees even if it is set at 900 in control option. It suddenly becomes like 270 degrees for some retard reason. Obviously everything becomes very very twitchy. 👎

Please give us back the 900 degrees option in drift mode...

Drifting is essentially too easy in this game once you get the right setup. You only need to counter steer barely as the front end grabs really tight and the rear never slips out if you feather the throttle clumsily. Using the E46 M3 tuned drifting is essentially on easy mode.

Dude, drifting in race mode is fine. It's in 'drift mode' that I'm talking about. Even if you set to 900, it goes to default automatically (probably 270 or 360 degrees) during drift mode. Can't be only me who is experiencing this. Seems like another bug to me..
 
I have solved he drifting problem for everyone who is just giving up anyway. Just put on apply the following

Handling Model - Casual
Steering Assist - High
Braking Assist - High
Anti-lock Brakes - On
Traction Control - Low
Stability Control - On
Damage Effects - Visual Only
Gears - Automatic

I know this is against everything that GTP stands for. But I wanna grip-race this game as long as the drift physics is impossible, at least for me.

With these settings there is no need to touch brake or hand-brake. Just full throttle and a little bit of steering :) I easily got my 4-seconds drifts this time.
 
I see no reason why they chanced physics to dirfting as it is quite easy and natural to drift in racing mode physics.
 
OK here is the trick to drifting. 1st DRIVER SETTINGS - turn off all driver assistants, eg traction control, stability control, and anti lock brakes. 2nd MAKING A DRIFT CAR - this works on most cars ( not VIPERS, they suck LoL ) , buy all car upgrades but do not get any tire upgrades (including wider tires) and if the body kits make your car wider do not buy one. TIP - NOS IS BETTER THAN WORKS UPGRADE FOR DRIFTING 3rd CAR SETTINGS - ok turn up the tire pressure a little front and back, lower front fully and jack up the rear fully, turn all ur differentials to low. 4th DRIVING - OK all i do is put the car in 4th and use NOS in all the turn. I can get 6100 in one run on ROAD USA and 5000 on TOKYO. TRUST ME THIS WILL WORK, K PEACE
 
I find that these settings work perfectly for drift.

Steering Assist - Low
Braking Assist - Low
Anti-lock Brakes - On
Traction Control - Low
Stability Control - On

It makes the drift mode feel a lot like Grid's. It's actaully quite fun with these settings.
