EA announces Need for Speed Underground 2
By Justin Calvert, April 23, 2004

Electronic Arts has today announced that it will release Need for Speed Underground 2 for all current-generation consoles and the Game Boy Advance this fall. Currently in development at EA Canada, the street racing sequel will boast a number of new features, including a free-roaming city environment composed of five distinct neighborhoods. As they explore the city, players will encounter rival racers who can initiate contests, point them in the direction of racing hotspots, and show them where to buy the most sought-after, licensed aftermarket parts for their cars. The game will feature 30 licensed vehicles and more than double the number of visual customization upgrades than were present in Need for Speed Underground--thus making for an impressive 70 billion possible car combinations. We'll bring you more information on Need for Speed Underground 2 as soon as it becomes available.

Edit : This game is teh huge suckination 👎

Reminds me of Midnight Club and that ain't a good thing. They should continue with the Hot Persuit series,Underground isn't nowhere nearly as good as HP2 IMO.

I know that hp2 is much better and not easy to complete like nfs:u. I don't really understand EA why going to do nfs:u2 instead for they continue hp series.

EA is a company. Companies like to make money, and lots of it. NFS: U sold greatly, so they come out with a NFS: Underground 2 to get more $$$. The "tuner" trend is still in, sadly. Otherwise, EA would make another Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit.

Hmm... Good thing I didn't waste my money buying NFS:u then. So this one will be better than the first, well, relatively since we are talking how much rice can you add.

I knew it was gonna go MC2 style...

I enjoyed MC2 better cause it had..
1. Freedom to Roam... (Well playing tag with my cousin would be an example)
2. Unlawful Attitude
3. Insane Speeds
4. Damage
5. MORE RACIN TRACKS!! (Well techically there was no tracks but...) and more that can be made.... I thought it was a real potential.. The "Bored of the Tracks? Make your Own!!" thing..

As for rice... Eh... I don't enjoy the funky vinyls, weird unfunctional parts.... But I believe that customization is always welcome...

If they just make the game deeper... GT3 customization on the cars.. I mean for it to become a tuner car game than a ricer car game, those are a must...

And maybe some out of town races... The stuff from the HP series.. Mountains, Forests, Twisty stuff!! I liked how BurnOut2 had a lot of different environments....

Well, If they can get BurnOut 2 style crashes that would just be awesome!! But that won't happen would it?

I can't wait. I've always enjoyed the NFS Series, including the "rice" packed NFS:Underground.

Thanks for the news Cosmic!

Hmm..Ea Actually took up the burnout series...Who knows..Maybe, maybe not..I doubt it as ea already announced Burnout 3, and if they put burnout style crashes in NFS:U2 then whats the point of burnout 3?..So i doubt it...

I don't think BurnOut 3 is a rumor...

If you read PSM mag, they already have screenshots of the new game.....

Or is it NFSU2 you were talking about?

Anyways..... Yeah I guess BurnOut crashes should be for burnout only... Well I still would want to see some damage done to the cars.....

Burnout 3 will kill NFS:U and NFS:U2. Lemme correct that, everything kills NFS:U. According The Official Playstation Magazine NFS:HP2 got a higher score...

I would say NFS:U is pretty good compared to games like " Midnight Street Racing" or whatever it was.

What an ugly Sooby!!

I love those cars and what the hell was that?!

Damn Ricer Game!! Sheesh....

And audio options? Gee... Does a racing game need audio options in a car? My god they are going too far:odd:

I see the damn same kits and 1 different car. The Mazda RX-8.

Now this is cool, the stereo system. This option will change the game for good. Seeing the scissor doors on the 350Z changed the look of the game also.

(Darins Inner Thought- Damn I like that vinyl.)
The game looks clearer, but hell, I wanna some real kits. Even if they are all universal kits like Bomex and Buddy Club. I would most definatly buy the game if it contained some unique kits from Top Secret, Yashio Factory, RE-Amemiya, and other kits that are focused on 1 car.

Now if NFS:U2 contains a body converison like for example.
A 180 with a S15 front and front bumper for the S15.

Stuff like that will play the game more and will definatly have fun with the game even more.

EA have never worried about making a game good... if it has a good license attached to it and its marketed well what do they care if it plays like ****.... As long as they make millions which they will always do.

Obviously on GTPlanet you are going to get a biased view on this... but NFSU caters for a targeted audience and it does it very well, their aint no denying this!!!

The target audience is my ass. And my ass is not liking NFS:U. They shoulld continue the Hot Pursuit series really bad.

NFS: U was fun for what it was. But it got old. Mainly cause you could never race during the day. I don't care how good a game looks, if you have the same lighting and shading effects in every race...the mess gets old.

As far as gameplay, I liked the drift mode, though it was completly unrealistic. Drag mode was decent but lacked dimension.

The best need for speeds have been I, III, and NFS HP2. The ironic part is II and IV sold really well. I'm just trying to understand who these people are who buy the junk games that keep the developers pumping out this trendy junk. Oh. well.

BTW, my brother plays tokyo extreme racer that has the same free roaming feature. I personally welcome it. cause it's not like you're in a sanctioned race of anykind. I know htat we all believe that GT is the best driving series...and it is! But for arcade style racers, NFS isn't bad at all.

You can roam the Highways in tokyo in Tokyo Xtreme Racer series.

NFS5: Porsche Unleashed was one of the best racing games ever.

I bought porsche Unleased (NFSV) I love Porsche! But I just couldn't get into that game. Don't know why, just couldn't. There was something up with the cop challenges or something. But anyway, yes you can roam the highways in Tokyo extreme racer. But you race on the highways so it's free roaming where you race.

Whats next? Missile Launchers?
Sheesh... But eh... You don't need to upgrade exteriors anyways...(I didn't care about the unlockable stuff in the First one... Make a Total Rice Sooby on single mode and just do 10 laps on a drift track a few times and you got everything unlocked anyways)
If the game plays good I'll buy it....

The only reason I'm interested is the free roaming idea. I know other games have it, but I like the way EA does games. After Underground, they should add a free roaming mode to the Hot Pursuit style games.

And not be so hard. Together with me, I know of like only three people who have achieved 100% in MC2 without cheats. XD

Anyways, I think, that barriered tracks should stay. There are already shortcuts in the NFS-series. Racing through the whole city would be too much imo. It was alright with Midnight Club but it would be too much of a change for the NFS-series.
