So i got a DS this past weekend and it's great. I worried that the graphics would make me cry and the games would send me to sleep, but i was wrong. Oh yes was i wrong.

I picked up 3 games with my DS: Mario Kart, Tiger Woods and Tony Hawks.

Tiger Woods: A fun game this one. I love golf games anyway so this was an obvious choice, but i do like this a lot. Makes use of the touchscreen when you take your shot, and you can control the ball midair by applying spin also on the touchscreen. This works well, but sometimes appears a little random, you may hit a 100% shot followed by a 6% shot even if you follow the same process. Still it looks like the game will last a long time as there are multiple game modes, create a player, a statistics system and other things to keep you occupied.

Mario Kart: The greatest game ever has made it onto the DS and retained the awesomeness that gave it it's title. Contains all the original gameplay but with added extras such as online gameplay. Doesn't make use of the touchscreen, but you can blow into the microphone to blowup your ballons in battle mode, which is pretty cool. If you don't own this game, then go buy it.

Tony Hawks: Haven't played it yet, but have my brother's opinion as a long-time TH fan that this is fun to play and isn't a bad game at all. Will update later.

This thread is dedicated to discussing the Nintendo DS and its games. What have you got? What do you want? Do you own a 'rubbish' game that's actually the best thing ever? Found a funny use for the microphone? Post 'em here.

This thread has been created as part of the 2006 drive to 'Make GTP a Nintendo friendly place'. Show some support.

Well i always thought the graphics would let the console down but it seems not to be the case, also i'd love to play Mario Kart - its my favourite game on any nintendo!

Edit: Whats the memory like on the DS? does it have expandable memory? Can it play mp3's or anything other than games?

Edit: Whoops, wrong thread. This post was meant to go in the Nintendo thread in the Site Feedback forum.

Yeah, the system is pretty great. I got the MarioKart bundle and Animal crossing. The two are really great games.

POST MKDS FRIEND CODES!! lol. Do any of you guy's play it online? I'd love to play online!!!! So far I'm about 50/50 ish on my record.

For those who think the DS is the 64's handheld equal, you need to play again, because it is in fact superior in both sound and visuals.

THPS - I've played it, and I like it a lot, at first it was kind of awkward. But I love the graphics, and the game is absolutely tony hawk. The classic feel of the older games is back, without a lot of the gimmick feel the last few have had, I love it.

ACWW - My roommates have it and play it ALL the time, I want to get it to play online, since they are scared, LOL. Not me!!!

But yes, please everyone post your friend codes!! Here's mine:

Tha_con: What's ACWW?

For me, I have :
Meteos : A pretty fun puzzle game, and playing it with friends is really exciting. It's like SSB but with puzzle added to it. You send them a big chunk of meteos and watch them die :D

Mario 64 : Pretty good game, but it needs a Joystick. I don't like the controls with the D-pad, but I play it from time to time.

Advance Wars : Dual Strike : Very good strategy game, my favorite so far. It's pretty hard too, but I learn from my mistakes and can usually do a mission in 3 tries or less.

I'm going to buy MKDS soon, I tried it at EBgames and tought it was very good, must be even better online.

ACWW is Animal Crossing Wild West. Basically you create a town, reaise money and get fruit and other crazy things, then you can go online and meet up with other people in other towns and stuff, and interact I believe. Sounds interesting, they are really into it, so I might give it a shot :)

I've seen that it looks great. IGN voted it one of the DS games of the year. Sounds like the sort of game that works really well on the DS and a game that will last forever, i like that :)

I've just been asking the question "Where's Zelda??" so i thought i'd go look around and see:

Revo-Europe.com
The forthcoming DS Zelda title will be an experiment in the series in terms of control - and no, it won't be yet another Four Swords remake!

EGM magazine have interviewed the long-time head honcho of the Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma. Talking about the currently untitled upcoming DS Zelda game, Aonuma said the title would be a new episode of the series, and not just a 'Four Swords DS' as previously rumoured.

He confirmed the game will be a completely new experience in the Zelda series as the game would feature a totally new system of control, allowing the user to live the adventure of Link "from a different angle of sight".
Using the touch screen, the player will be able to directly handle the various objects our hero Link uses, which Aonuma says will allow a greater immersion into the game's world.

"What I can tell you is that it's going to use the touch screen for a very unique control system that people have never experienced in a Zelda game before. I think one of the important elements of the Zelda series has always been that you feel like you're in the world doing the things that Link is doing and touching the things that Link is touching. This time you'll be able to use the touch screen and actually touch those items and objects yourself." he said.

Sounds great 👍

I thnk I'll get a DS for portable gaming, seeing as Zelda is coming to it. And it's pretty cheap.

If your a big Mario or Zelda fan then Nintendo DS if your console. Personaly I wouldn't get that console just for a couple of games. I rather get the PSP. But I got nothing against that console. :)

Capsule Reviews:

The minigames in Super Mario DS make it worth your while, no question. If you didn't play Mario64 when it first came out, it's even more so.

Animal Crossing is amazing. The best part is that it's even deeper than the original gamecube version.

Lost In Blue is a survival RPG that is a ton of fun. If you're a fan of 'Lost', you've got to give it a try.

Trauma Center: Under the Knife is pretty hard. Enjoyable, but hard.

Mr. Driller is a fun way to waste time.

Sprung: please don't get this one.

Nanostray: a fun little shooter that might be hard to come by in the near future. Poor use of the touchscreen, but that hardly matters.

Jump Superstars: if you can find this import title, get it. It's a hoot of a melee-fighting game.

Electroplankton: a very, very cool music game/toy.

Castlevania: I haven't played this yet, but my friends who have say it's very good.

Nintendogs: cute. Fun.

If you have any specific titles you'd like to know more about, I've played a whole bunch of them. At my office, around 70% of the staff have DSes, so if I haven't played it myself, I can probably find someone who has.

I had one starting at Sep 2005~

Advance Wars was the reason but I got Mario DS together... (Still playing ADVwars!)

Then got Castlevania DS... Awesome game with lots of replayability (Though there is a way to be invincible in battles without cheating... mix some ring with some golems soul)

MarioKart... Awesome... Period! (Mission mode is hard though)

Animal Crossing... (Want to go online but don't have connections yet...)

Is Castlevania really worth getting? Everyone says it's good, but that doesn't seem to be enough for me for some reason!

The mission mode on MK really reminds me of the licenses on GT. But easier :P But yeah some of them are tough.

Animal Crossing is definitely one i'm going to have to rent out sometime.

I'm enjoying Mario Kart at the moment, it's a good break from Mario 64(the only other game I have for DS). I might pick me up that DS Lite(I already have a Blue DS, but knowing there's a dead pixel on the screen kinda bugs me), it comes out to the US in the Spring this year too.

There is an "add-on" that goes into the GBA port of the DS that allows one to play videos and I think also mp3, it's called the Play-Yan. There's also another one called simply Movie Player, but the Play-Yan seems to be a better performer. http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?na...46&PHPSESSID=fc8b1f6b884e65672aabbaa90c9376be

Interesting news, but why are they redesigning it? To try and attract more users or just because that's what people expect (ala PS1, PS2, Gameboy Micro etc.)?

If I had to guess, it's because the design is a year and a half old, and they've come a long way in portable screen quality (see the micro-- it's got a great screen).

It might also be to get it looking more like something that goes along with the Revolution, but that's pure speculation.

Okay, so I finally got an import copy of a new game I've been dying to play.

Bleach DS.

Simply put, this game is amazing, I love it.

28 playable characters, 4 player download play, 4 player wi-fi, and 4 player onilne.

It took me about 5 hours (playing nonstop, lol) to unlock everyone, but it's definately fun. Getting past the Japanese was a little tough at first with menu's, but since it's a fighting game it's not really too hard.

Wi-Fi is great, though I did experience a little Lag when playing with people in Japan, playing with people stateside gave me little to no lag whatsoever. Even when playing a few people in EU I didn't experience a whole lot of lag.

You guy's should look into it if you're looking for new titles to play online, it's definately fun.

Sounds good. I didn't realise you could play imported games. Does that work on all systems? Can i play Japanese and US games on my UK system?

MPH: Update.

Here are some screens...man this game is going to rock so hardcore, and the control is so nice...*drools*

IMO, these pictures don't do it enough justice, but look at the size of the stage on the last shot...sweet ass man. And this game is online? It's going to rock.

Yep an online FPS for the DS is just what i'm after now, so here's hoping this is a good one 👍

New Mario & Luigi platformer which looks nice. WTH with the bottom right SS though! link

You talking about the super big mario? I assume that it will be one of his new abillities, this game looks extremely interesting, I'm really amped about it. Can't wait to play it.

Opera Web browser and digital TV tuner announced for Nintendo's handheld; new utilities and games galore also discussed at presentation in Tokyo.

Gamespot
President Iwata has revealed the Nintendo DS Browser, a Web browser made by Oslo, Norway-based Opera Software. The browser will be based on Opera's PC Internet browser but will take advantage of some of the DS's integrated capabilities. The browser will be cartridge-based and is slated for release in Japan this June at the price of 3,800 yen ($32). Nintendo is considering shipping the product overseas.

Browsing will take place on both screens, and an onscreen keypad and the stylus will control navigation and input. The DS's two screens can be used to show off a single Web page, or the DS can scale down a site to fit on one screen and use the other to zoom in on a portion of the site.

Rather than using the D pad and buttons to input text, DS owners can use the stylus to write on the DS's touch screen, which features PDA-style handwriting recognition. The browser will also feature an onscreen keyboard.

....

The DS will double as a television. Iwata unveiled a new accessory that lets users watch TV broadcasts on the DS. The product is tentatively named DS Chijouha Digital Housou Jushin Card (DS digital-broadcast receiver card) and will be compliant with the new 1seg broadcast service, a digital signal designed for mobile devices, which will launch in Japan this April. 1seg broadcasts run in QVGA resolution (320x240 pixels).

The DS digital-broadcast receiver card will snap into the handheld's DS cartridge slot and feature an extendable antenna. The TV will be displayed on the upper screen, and the bottom screen will have buttons that can switch channels.

Read this and other details here.
