"Sadly, Nissan have announced that after more than 30 years, the Silvia will be discontinued in mid 2002 as the SR20DE and SR20DET do not meet incoming Japanese emission standards (odd, because they are not as tough as ADR, which Nissan Australia managed to meet, some writers have suggested this is really to clarify the market for the 350Z, due in 2003). but Nissan Australia kept the car on sale in Australia until some time in late 2002, when all the available shells are used up. The GT-Spec cars are a way of using the remaining Japanese-spec wings.

There may be an S16 developed for 2004, 2005. This was hinted at during the Australian launch of the 350Z. We don't have any hard details at the moment, but will be sure to post them as news develops.

The following image was posted recently in a Japanese magazine. We are in the process of having it translated, so at this point, no guarrantee is made as to whether or not this information is genuine. But it sounds encouraging.

Apart from the new Z-car and Skyline R35, the upcoming XVL-sedan will also spawn the next generation S16 Silvia. If this is the future of the new, stylish and profitable Nissan, then Japanese enthusiasts have much to celebrate.

With strong hints of the Honda S2000 front fascia and the TVR Cerbera in the rear. The current S15 Silvia has already been praised for its low price (less than US$20,000 equivalent), good looks and strong performance (250-ps, FR-layout, turbo-charged). The next generation S16 will surely raise the performance bar, and will make the Z-car look like a superfluous purchase. It will have a high-performance 2-litre engine without turbo-charging, relying on variable valve timing for high-strung pulling power, which will keep the price even lower than now (and boosting the price and image of the Z-car, which will be positioned slightly above it)."

that pic's been around for a while now, and from what I've heard, there will be no S16, the S-body's done. I'm disappointed cause I love silvias, but I think that S16 model looks ugly.

it looks more like a luxury car than a sports car..the previous silvias looked more agressive. That's not to say it couldn't be made to look agressive..just look at the soarer, it looks like a typical luxury coupe stock, but there are some really agressive looking ones out there, like the red one in the D1 series.

isn't the 350z the new fairlady? and i think that this new engine will be nice to see in the future. who cares aboot looks. its all about engine. why is it only 2.0L when nissan has the 3.5L engine in the Z??? i guess it could open a nice aftermarket for the car. the 350z just got a supercharger from stillen (70 HP at low psi). so i'm pretty sure that this new engine will have a turbocharger and other aftermarket parts in no time. SR20VET. isn't the "T" for their turbo models? like DE vs. DET?? dunno but i think if it does come out, its going to be a really really nice engine. the VQ35 is being swapped into skylines. so i think that the SR20VET will be easily swapped into older silvias. i'd be extremely happy to see this car come out. (it'd be in GT5 ... mmmm):D :D

hey ethikz. i found something like that in a japanese mag in little tokyo and there was this guy reading and i asked him and he said it was a hoax. just a model they "wanted" to make but japanese car standards doesnt even meet up with that:(. so the guy i was talking to said dont worry it ends at s15 and will stay that way. so i dont know which one is correct HAH:D :D.saw this about 1 week ago.

Most have come to the conclusion that that pic is a chop. You can kinda tell by the qaulity of the pic. Also it looks a lot like a G35.

No S16, no SR20VET.

well it's not a chop picture. it's more like a designer dream's concept. it is real .with a supra engine in it. more like a prototype. i was just saying it will never be made. just one of those "boy i would like to see that in action"

Well, I gotta agree with KiDyNomiTe. Everything else looks like the G35: the rims, the rear end, and the contour shape of the car. I'm getting goosebumps just from looking at that car :nervous:

I just figured out it is a chop, or at least a photoshop job or whatever you call it, and it's a G35. You can see it on the right fender on the left side of the picture where they shaded over the the tall front light. The wheels are the same, they just pasted in the Nissan logos (or they might have been there in the first place since the G35 is labeled as Nissan in Japan). The side profile and window line is also pure G35.

Damn Nissan, lots of drifters can't afford a 350Z (me included, I'm flat broke [although I'm not really a drifter, I'm a wannabe]). If Nissan kills the Silvia they will kill alot of peoples dreams...

Nissan is getting its halo products, but it seems to be abandoning the lower price performance segment which is the area which will instill brand loyalty in younger buyers with thier proposed abandonment of the Silvia.

If they make the new Silvia FF I will spit on them...

yup it really does look like it. just the front wa either photoshopped or was chooped off and they put some kit in the front. but still i think it wasnt from a g35. g35 seems taller. well same rims :odd:

I don't know about the S15 being a "great performer" considering it's 6 speed was fragile, however I did love the S line, expecially the S14 model, which is one of the most elegant cars to ever come from Nissan.

I also don't think it is a good idea for Nissan to exclude the Silvia from thier line up because considering the current global, American, and Japanese economies people might not be willing to shell out that extra cash for the 350Z or whatever else model instead of the Silvia. Also, customers don't like being forced into something more expensive.

I just wish we could get some nice affordable Japanese FR cars in the US. All the FR japanese cars for sale in the US seem to start at like $30k or around that. The 350z, the G35, the IS300, s2000, etc..all start around or above $30k which sucks. I wish they'd stop making all the new cars FF (4wd is getting pretty common, and it's still pimp though)..yeah they're better in the snow..but FR is so much more fun. :D
