Anyone else remember or miss the nitro option from GT4?

It was pretty cheap if I remember and packed quite a punch.

A bit gimmicky maybe, but it made a relatively untuned car kind of competitive.

If GT5 plans on being realisitic and true to life then nitrous cannot be included as some cars can take it and some cars can't, so GT5 needs to simulate the engine deteriorating / blowing up for those that cant.

I hope to never see it as it'll just be leaning towards NFS then.

Nitrous was too much of a gimmick. I'm not entirely sure if the cars I used it on would have had a different time if I didn't use it.

If there was a drag racing race that would be cool. But then there would have to be a lot more high schoolers in Honda Civics...so that wouldn't be cool.
No to Nitro-

Nitrous was good for high speed runs. It could add another 50+ MPH to the top speeds of many cars. I want it back!

I'm a fuel only guy myself, (referring to the way I build engines in real life) so I don't miss nitrous one bit. Never installed it on any one of my cars.

I miss it. You can have restriction when playing online now so I don't see what's the problem is.

Better to have the option and not use it, than want it and not have the option...

Exactly.

Nitrous was great to have. And it's not a drag-racing only tool either. The best use was to either over-gear top gear on your car for a track with a long enough straight, then hit the nitrous to give you the power to wind out that gear.

Or, use it for shorter straights to boost you through a gear to the next corner if the competition was too close and you needed to make some time.

With either strategy, it would last a very long time and was extremely effective in a road race setting.

I wish it was still present.

Though I agree with the notion about realism regarding engines made for heavy applications of it, you can run it lightly on most engines and it's not a problem. Generally speaking, as long as you don't go way over the top with it, the requirements are the same as with turbos - ie, strong internals, bolts, good gaskets, etc.

However, it would be nice to see realism in mods in other more important areas first - like, in past games, I remember you could upsize the GTR engine, but not muscle car engines. That's insane. Ditto with tires/wheels. My car runs 17x9 stock at all corners. But, I can fit 17x11 under there, and easily tire sizes up to 345 (stock is 275). People have also stuffed 18x10s in with no issues as well. Yet in GT, you're stuck with stock wheel/tire size. Always very frustrating. And then of course, in 2011, if you're building a custom car that originally had a 4 speed manual, chances are you're gonna put a 6 speed in there. Either way, you certainly have the option.... but not in GT. 5 speed only. Seems the GT rule is you can get 1 extra gear over stock with a max of 6 total, and that's it. Bogus.

Of course, we could go on for days on all the real world things not present in GT mods. They have to draw the line somewhere I guess. We can only hope that as time goes on, they add more and more to what's possible and not take anything away from us. (may never be 100% to what's possible IRL, but could slowly get better and better this way)
