No acceleration sometimes

Sometimes when I'm racing, there is very little response from the accelerator.
I can be in 5th gear and in the lead and suddenly my car starts to slow down.
I'm moving to fast for 4th and on a flat stretch.
It's as though I'm in too high a gear but I'm not.
It's only been happening for a couple of weeks.

It doesn't happen with Rfactor or Race07, so it can't be my pedals.

Has anyone else came across this problem?

Check that the cables are not loose in your wheel. The connector to the PS3 in my DFGT goes every now and then.
 
Check the accelerator/brake graphic in game, if it says you're flat out it could be something like being in a online room with catchup on high or your car having problems, if not its probably the pedals.

I think its your wheel and brake pedals. Check them like TankAss95 says.

About a year ago, I was experiencing the same thing: I would be pressing the accelerator but the car would not accelerate. It was like the car's engine would not increase its revs. It was somewhat intermittant, but slowly started to happen more frequently. I'm not sure, but I think it was that my DFGT pedals had just worn out. I purchased a new DFGT wheel and pedals and everything went immediately back to normal.

Its now a year later, and I've started to experience the same lack of acceleration when I press the accelerator. I find that I can get some response back if I lift off the accelerator completely and then press back down again. Sometimes this seems to get everything back to a normal response. I think it may be time to get another DFGT if it gets any worse!

One good thing is that it gives the AI a chance! Its like I'm running the race missing a cylinder!

You could also be going uphill, but just not know it. Some of the more gentler inclines can be hard to detect in-game without the g-forces.

Exactly like this... The onscreen graphic is showing my pedal is moving correctly but there are no revs.
I was just in an offline race in practice and my car just stopped gradually. The white graphic was showing full pedal use but the revs died and I just couldn't get going. They reved a bit more but the car wouldn't move.
I don't think it can be the pedals if the pedal indicator on the dash is showing as correct... (moving in accordance with my foot)

What is catchup and can it effect practice races?
 
Does it happen when you reach a certain speed or does it happen at different speeds and at different gears?
 
I just realised what was causing the problem.

When I was looking at the white accelerator graphic, I should have also checked the red brake travel indicator. Anyway it was showing a bit of brake, sometimes up to a 1/4 of pedal travel, even when just accelerating. My brakes where binding :-)

Maybe others have this problem but not as noticable. Just check the red bar when accelerating as it may be slowing you down.

I usually press my acc and brake pedal fully before I use GT5 but I don't think it is enough. After pressing the brake pedal about 20 times fully, the red indicaor became less and less.

It seems to be ok now but if it comes back, I'm gonna get a G27 or similar.......

...It has come back again but goes after pumping the brake a few times...does something need wd40 or greasing? Brakes are flickering on and off when looking at replays from behind the car.

It was all speeds. I was stuck in the tunnel at monaco in 1st and couldn't move.

Sorted now though...............................no it's not, something is sticking inside my brake pedal.
Becomes more noticeable with lower power cars 60bhp to 100bhp especially when going uphill like Monaco after the first turn. Higher power cars tend to power through it.

Does anyone have an answer as I've just tested in Rfactor and Race 07 and the replays show my brakes are working correctly. Watched the replays and the brakes come on at the right time.
It is only happening in GT5.
It could be that GT5 is more sensitive to brakes than Rfactor.
My brake off position must be slightly on but unlike Rfactor there is no way to adjust it with a deadzone setting.

You should try asking or searching in the "steering wheels and sim hardware" section of the forum. It sounds like something I read a while back about (I think it was the DFGT) the pedal's components becoming either loose or perhaps dirty. If your pedal doesn't go all the way to zero it could well be just that the potentiometer has moved a little bit and the pedal itself can't go far enough back. It sounded like a fairly easy fix, and a common flaw with the DFGT pedals.

Wouldn't want to drop a couple hundred bucks on a new wheel if you can fix something yourself for just a couple bucks(or less).

Edit to add: GT5 is MUCH more sensitive(I'd say almost too sensitive) around zero with the gas and brake pedals than rFactor is, so you likely won't notice it there unless it's really bad. Can't say for Race 07, but I think that's loosely based on the rF engine. GT seems more sensitive than any other game I've played.

You're pretty much right there. I found that if I pull the pedal upwards, against the plastic stopper when the brake indicator comes on, the indicator goes off, so maybe something has moved slightly and the plastic isn't letting the pedal spring back enough.

It's just a Logitech Formula EX which replaced 2 DFGT's which broke.

Might take the easy route and just shave a bit off the plastic stopper, if I can't see inside easy enough.

I can't remember what it was called anymore, but I know I saw a thread with instructions on how to take it apart to fix that. The actual fix was usually just sticking some foam or other spacer in there to hold the pots in place.

Didn't help me so much as my much older model was having actual electrical issues... once it got too bad I managed to mostly fix it with some soldering and then my wheel itself finally lost all power beyond my ability to repair it about a week later. Was ok though, I got plenty of years use out of that [free] wheel. I can only hope my Fanatec lasts as long.

Sounds like something I would do. LoL

I started to take the pedals apart but after taking the screws out and pulling on the plastic, I just got the feeling that about 15 springs and cogs would fly out before I could see where they came from, so I put the screws back in and shaved a very tiny amount from the plastic that the pedal springs back to.
It's definitely cured the problem. No brake lights unless I'm braking now.
These pedals are very good and solid. Look like new, so I'll leave any major fiddling till they need it.

PS... Well it didn't last for long. Brake indicator came back on, so I took the pedals apart and there was a sensor thing with 2 wires coming from it, that was out of place. Put it back together and it seems ok.
Touch wood! Drove for 1/2 an hour and all fine.

So we have a different problem apparently - I`m sure that was not hardware related.
100% on gas, 0% on brake, correct gear, little downhill, car from recommended list and it stops accelerating or even slows down (!) when everybody else are gaining speed correctly and overtake me.
Two different PS3s, two different wheels. The same track (Nurb), mode (online) and copy of GT5.
It`s very rare (three times since game launch and I play it almost every day).
I would really like to know if this is some bug or lag effect or boost settings.
 
There is something similar with the X2010 and the FGT i think:

They accelerate by themselfs in some corners! Good noticeable, when you drive to fast and spin out into the sand, the car makes a "kickdown" by itself. (all assists off, of course)

Very strange and annoying.

Its ur gear ratio its probably to low. I noticed this after i was drivin my skyline set for drag 1/4 mile
 
I was having some issues for a while which turned out to be the brake was sometimes dragging a bit, Just a little but it was enough to drop speed and stop the car from accelerating. Was mostly a problem in Forza as it does not have the handly little bar graph there in the hud to show your input levels. The problem ended up being a loose pot attached to the brake pedal.
 
My problem was 3/4 accelerator. Opened up the pedal assembly and found the gas pot loose, shimmed it in place and good to go. Quite messy (grease) and kind of a pain in the a** but it still lives!
I got this wheel for GT4 so it has a few miles on it.
