Yes that is what I'm talking about like most racing games out these days that don't actually include a cockpit view will atleast include a hood view that is leveled at the dash/or close to driver eye level vs GT5's roof view cam
I get what you're saying. You'd like a camera mounted to the dash? Yeah me too. Cockpit view is too far back compared to driving a real car. Supercar Challenge has two in car views, traditional and a cockpit view that is more forward. Windshild should be 90% of the view, not 40%.

I always use the roof-cam anyway.

But I can see the annoyance for cockpit-only users. The roof-cam will be unfamiliar (and unrealistic for those seeking that kind of realism), and the bumper-cam is too low. GT-Academy had an eye level external camera didn't it?

Can't understand why they didn't just substitute an extra external cam instead of the cockpit ones for standard cars, just to keep an extra option open.

I find the roof cam very offputting because you suddenly can see over other cars... that's just weird and wrong to me... I think if a car is in front of you, short of seeing through it's windows, you should be blinded from what's ahead of you... it's part of the the thrill of racing and what makes tucking in tight behind someone so exciting and risky.

The bumper cam achieves that but there is no reference as to where your car's body is and I feel like I am driving a big invisible cube around the track... sometimes I bump off stuff and sometimes I pass by but there is no visual cue as to when that's going to happen.

I like both cockpit can and dash cams... cockpit more becuase it's more challenging and gives a sense of imersion but dash cam does a good job as well.. why they didn't put at least a dash cam in totaly confuses me... I can only guess the hood that close up looks really ugly or something.

I'll have to use roof cam I think for standards anyway. Afterall don't you drive a car from your roof?
Evidently, many people drive their cars from the bumper. ;)

I don't like cockpit view anyhow. Once again just to satisfy myself, in my own real life car, I lowered my head to where the horizon matches up with the horizon in every Premium car cockpit view video - halfway down the windscreen, and my nose was close to dash level, right at the wheel. This is unrealistically low, unless you guys drive your cars Lambo style, half lying down.

I'm with Mild Ashers and the others who will be sticking to roof view. But this thread should definitely be a memo to Kaz:

Patch in positional adjustment for all driver views in GT5 soon. If not, implement this in GT6 as one of the top priorities. This is the only thing that will make everyone happy.

Check out Tekken's standard cars videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s-z5NPUgNE at 0:19 you will see that the roof view is as good as it's gonna get for anything close to a proper hood view at cockpit eye level.

Wow PD really? Couldn't give us cockpit view on all cars, okay I get that, how about giving us a nice hood view, nope not even that.

it's identical to the roof view that was in gt5p, gt4, and gt psp. did you really think they were going to change it? and plus, BIG DEAL, you have a better view of your surroundings. that's so important I may cry myself to sleep tonight, WAAAAAA (baby crying) WAAAAAAA

Yeah I'm surprised, I thought Kaz was working on something for all us Cockpit view only drivers, eg a nice proper hood view at the same eye level as the cockpit view, so we could atleast feel like we were still in a car. Even Forza 2 did this. WTF

at least it's not like the bumper can where you're literally 4 inches above the ground and can't see anything but things to far away to matter, pavement, and the backs of cars

I bumper cam always, so stuff like cockpit views/premium v standard etc doesn't bother me.

Roll on 25th.

Sorry dude but first person/bumper cam/drivers seat with an invisible interior is eye level from the drivers seat. This was proven about a year ago. There was a demo at R246 in a Subby rally car. The driver hit a barrier which put it on the hood. When viewing the replay from first person the block looked as if it was suspended in mid air. In third person/balloon view it was clearly on the hood of the car.

Have you noticed some racing games' "bumper cam" is ridiculously low compared to Gran Turismo's? It's because ours is not from the bumper. It's from the driver's eye with an invisible cockpit.

For some reason I was thinking this thread was confirming head tracking while using roof cam

I went to that thread and your eyesite needs to get checked. no car sits that low, PLUS EVERY CAR'S BUMPER VIEW IS SAME HEIGHT!!!!

I'm sorry for making fun of you at first. I understand your frustration because i use cockpit view also, even in gt psp. it sucks but we're going to have to stick with the roof cam and really, a hood cam wouldn't be much better IMO bcuz it's a little further up from the center of the car but I get where you're coming from

Wow..... this really might be it for me guys. I can't believe how many people are ok with this level of detail. GT5 prologue came out 2 years ago and the majority of the cars in GT5 aren't even up to that level?

I am a huge GT fan and really disappointed. I don't own an xbox360 but seriously might have to buy one with Forza if this is what we get for waiting 5 years for a game.

Simply put ....... no excuse.

Shocking. Only going to be driving premium anyway so...

What?!?!! Really? I have thought of the same thing, if the damn Bugatti wasn't a standard car maybe I could do that, but I can't believe you could really say that as if you aren't pissed about having 800 junk last gen cars in the game.

I'm over it, I played GT1, 2, 3 and 4 without it so I think I'll manage. I've been through the car list many times now and (I mostly use Japanese cars anyway) most of the cars I'll be using are Premium. :)

The only standard car I can see myself using for a long period of time at this point will be my first car. The whole cockpit view thing really doesn't surprise me nor bother me anymore. It will be a great game with or without the tinsel that is cockpit view.

I saw from a video on YouTube that Standard cars do in fact have no interior view. Not even the fearful Gran Turismo PSP interior view didn't even show up in GT5 from that video I saw. I seem to be one of the few to find the roof view to be equally effective. I'm not offended at all about a lack of a cockpit view. A roof view on a Standard car is just as effective as an interior view on a Premium car to me. I know people are going to graciously disagree with me (nothing new), but that's my view on this whole issue.

We've dealt before. And don't give me anything along the lines of "this is the PS3, so any prehistoric or previous-gen practice is unacceptable today." It just means I won't get to enjoy any in-car views. And to be honest... I do like in-car views, but I don't use these views often, so there's nothing for me to be so upset about. It just means I'll be okay while most others will be fully upset.

Nothing pointless about not having a proper hood view at driver's eye level if they are not going to have cockpits. It's the bare minimal for driving games today

I not disputing about having a proper hood view.

Just the fact that there's now a thread for something that we all knew about a long ago.

We told some of you standards didn't have views like this, and you just said it was mis-communication. Maybe next time, some people here will know not to look so deep into basic statements.

I laughed WAY harder than I should've had.

And yet you're the one without the concrete facts backing up why it's bogus. Do you also think that Earth has only been around 5000 years and human once lived with dinosaurs?

so you're really going to try and say the height changes car to car with bumper cam? because I'm pretty sure cars do last time I looked.

also, I don't think you laughed hard enough at that Dacia Sandero joke. I just noticed it and died

We learnt that Kaz was working on something for all those disappointed about not having cockpit views in standard cars. I thought it would be obvious like in Forza2 where they gave you a proper hood view since they did not have time to model all cockpits. It's only now with the leaked videos that it is confirmed that in the full retail game, there will not be a proper hood view but only a roof view unchanged from GT5 Prologue .

Ok. I really think you, and the EPIC FALE poster just need to step back and take a few deep breaths.

It's a game first off.

And, you're getting way too worked up over nothing. I was dissapointed when I first heard about standard v premium too, but, you know what? There is nothing you can do about it. So, why get all worked up?

Just try and focus on the cool stuff. Watch that track generator vid again. It's pretty cool!

I think this advice should be given to anyone that is pissed off about the game. The course maker is straight up brilliant and the new video does a much better job of showing that than the video gamestop released. I'm astonished and really angry that the veyron is standard. I even contemplated selling my ps3 and getting an xbox for forza so I wouldn't have to wait for a game that just completely frustrates me but in the end we haven't played the game yet. so whatever new feature you're most excited about, find and watch some new videos about it and relax for 9 days. it may end up being good in the end

well it kind of makes you wonder why they went for the roof cam to begin with. All I know is, it was great that they added it to gt4, but cockpit view was even better. to be honest, I didn't become a GT fanatic until cockpit view was available. I've always loved the game, got 70% in gt3 and 60% and gt4 even before I could call myself a fanatic but the cockpit view just sent me over the edge. now they've taken it away and somehow taken it away from my favorite and easily a top 5 most important car of the decade, the veyron. eitherway, it's just going to be so much fun to race on new tracks besides what's in prologue for once that I'm pretty sure we're only whining because we don't know what to do to pass the time.
