I still can't believe that this was not in GT5 and am totally shocked that it is not in GT6.
All racing games with online ability need a full set of online leader boards. These need to allow you to be able to drive any car on any track with any legit tuning done to it and be able to post a time to a public leader board. These need to be divided into groups for different types of cars and different performance levels, tires perhaps even assists. These times posted need to persist throughout the life of the game and not just the few weeks that they have for the very very limited time trial leader boards now.

They need to take a long hard look at Forza and see how a leaderboard system should be done and then do it better ;)

I will not be buying a PS4 nor any future GT versions if they do not include a full leaderboard system and do it for real rather than just writing in on the box like they did with GT5. It is utterly ridiculous that this game does not have this already and I know I am not alone in this. All the guys I race with have the same issue and that is by far the biggest complaint. I can deal with the sounds, even the delays at getting content but this is a basic feature that should be and needs to be in all racing games from day 1.

Sad really, I would have probably payed 10 times as much if only there was a way to record and compare times that did not require using a pen and paper.

If GT6 had a proper leaderboard I would've spent much more time driving in the game. Having a permanent full leaderboard would be a very big plus to the game, it's something that I really miss.

Since you mentioned Forza, it's safe to throw in another game I'm familiar with as an example and I can bring pictures too as I'm sure some GT players may not be familiar with what a detailed leaderboard looks like. I am just discovering this in Assetto Corsa and it's added a whole new dimension and purpose to hotlapping and tuning. Anyone who says this is bollocks because it takes resources away from more important things should keep mind, the app in AC is not a part of the game, it's a free mod anyone can download and made by a player or players who aren't paid employees. It's also has live, real time updates, so when you cross the finish line, you get an immediate update to the leaderboard in your HUD.

In RSR Live Timing, the leaderboard looks like this outside the game:

When you hold the cursor over the "i" on the right, you get information about the users peripherals, number of laps run, number of clean laps, tire wear settings, damage settings etc. Assists are the circles to the right. Each leaderboard has an overall sort, and 3 Pro ranks, including the Pro rank of absolutely all aids off. Cars only come with realistic rubber that's period specific for older cars so you can use any compound you like.

For GT I'd like to see a "factory" sort option, where you can only race with the aids or assists the car came with, along with stock rubber as I think that would be a popular category for the hardcore enthusiasts. A "no aids" option on stock rubber would also be a good idea for those that want to compete without ABS or aids of any kind on modern cars. Obviously you'd also need to have an "open" board that allows any and all assists and rubber and the ability to sort for peripherals, tires etc.

RSR also keeps track of you as a driver, gives you an overall ranking, keeps track of your individual results etc.

As a guy who really hated TT's for the most part and really only put some effort into a half a dozen in 4 years, I am astonishing myself at how motivating this live leaderboard is and the ability to immediately see where I am overall, how close the next person is, and to sort out for different driving aids, friends etc.

One other thing to keep in mind if you are not aware, a similar leaderboard was kept in GT5, accessible by pc, with way more detail than RSR. You can find it here.

That RSR sounds pretty interesting. Would be sweet to have something like that in GT.

I really liked the leaderboards in Forza but I don't think I truly appreciated them until I started playing GT5 and they weren't there. GT was fun early on, had some good online races with my friends and lots of cool cars but it wasn't long before we all ended up going back to Forza 3 in order to post times on the boards again and barely touched GT5 after that.
