I think it's fair enough that if the race promoters don't pay the fees, they have the race taken away from them. My sources tell me that the organisers of the French GP are $16m in the red, which is not an insignificant amount.
wee_man: F1 is an expensive sport, and teams and sponsors do more business at the Monaco GP than at all other races combined. As for whether the races there are exciting, I think that if you're not excited by the idea of these hyper-fast, hyper-fragile machines charging around a street circuit, then you're probably not identifying with the human stresses of driving these things.
I would like to see a return to more exciting circuits, ones where the drivers' skills and bravery are tested, not just their precision and consistency. I can't agree that the Magny-Cours race is a big loss.
