Nobody else interested in racing with cars the way they were built?

i totaly agree, all cars should remain stock unless you are trying to build something specific. a rally car for instance.

it is very hard to find people online that dont just tune the max out of everything. next update should have a non noob option!

This is annoying when you don't have mounds of cash sitting around. You have what you think is a fast car but then you run into tuned version of it with twice the horsepower and downforce and half the weight! You have to be able to top 200mph easily just to keep up in some of these lobbies! Untuned chromelines and stealths are useless!

Setting the room restriction doesn't prevent this?

I like the gt300 and gt500 series as they are.. No need to change the engine to another level.. I do however buy all the turbo levels possible because you never know who you are racing against :D

Why isn´t there a "default cars mode" or something like that where we could race the cars the way they were made?

There is, click on the "Recommended" tab under Regulation Setting when in Open Lobby or My Lounge, you can choose 1 or several cars that are totally stock & that's all anybody can use. Only problem is, you can't choose all cars in the game just a select few, there's plenty there to get you going.

Then use calan_svc's "GT5 Stock Tyre Recommendations" (link below) to make sure the tyres you use are as close to the real life car regarding lateral g skidpad number ratings & you're good to go.

I also run stock car races every Saturday night like this, I'll be starting more during the week soon too, add me & let me know you're intersted if you wanna race one night.

Here are some good ones we've raced already to get you started: Lotus Elise 111R on Sports Medium, Camero SS 2010 on Comfort Softs & the Mini Cooper S 2007 on Comfort Mediums.

👍

I regularly drive a F40 at the Green Hell with all aids off, including ABS and with comfort sport tires, because the F40 was never released with ABS.
Of course the times are crap, but the driving experience is awesome.

Also driving the GT500 cars without any tuning at the Super GT event is fun. Too bad, there are just those three tracks and the AI actually sucks, so I might consider joining the Super GT league.

Every race online is full of cars with more power, less weight, new aero modifications etc which weren´t in the original model to the extent that it makes their performance irrecognaisable from what it should be. I have a fully tuned fiat panda with which I beat easily a Golf V and various Polo cup cars. That´s fun and I like it being in the game, but I don´t like it being THE GAME.

That way, it´s impossible to compare the real performaces of the cars.

There are several online leagues on GT planet that race in the way you like, I'd suggest going to the online boards and looking them up. Its basically impossible to find good races randomly online. Playing with friends is the only way to go in GT5 online until they add the much needed matchmaking.

For me, tuning should be literally fine-tuning - alignment, gear ratios, aero, LSD and the like. Simply slamming in a bigger engine, dropping the weight and adding slicks (and then leaving half the rubber in a straight line leading directly off the first bend) is too much of a brute-force approach. Sure, have one or two cars like that, but the tuner's art is in the detail.

As a general rule I prefer to drive cars stock, and would like to see a 'stock tyre' option too that most closely replicates the real-world equivalent.

I now keep 99% of my cars stock, with only change being tyres.

There are ppl like you out there, just be patient when searching for lobbies. Don't join ones the have no restrictions. I usually look for low power rooms (under 400hp) which usually allows me to pick a stock car to race or a lightly modded low-level car. Rooms with boost are also fun because they allow underpowered cars to keep up. If you can't find what you're looking for, start your own room and advertise it here to get a following.

well its always fun to have one-make race with friends....all we do is probably change the standard tyres to sport sort or race soft tyres depending on the car n track

Yeah...there's already a "default cars mode"...it's called repurcashing them from the dealership.
or remove all the tuning parts
add ballast to make the weight the original weight if you bought weight reduction
and power restriction if you bought engine upgrades :dopey:

I recently made a room online exclusively for stock super cars and street cars racing
Nobody joined go figure

You can´t do a stock street cars room online because it is impossible to know if a car is stock or not.

That´s why it is so important that Polyphony put an option to force "unmodified cars". Either that or grow the recommended car list to the full amount of cars in the game so we can create our own stock car rooms online without having to worry about people using tuned cars or simply not having them at all.

Regards.

I think this would be one of the best things that could happen...

Having played (cough) forza 3 at a friends house, having such a nice long list of cars available in arcade mode (i.e. recommended list) makes the experience so much more fun and varied.

I love playing single make races online, but that's simply because thats the only option to make it really fair. (all races seems to finish with no more than a few seconds between the pack, and you get results like 0.004 seconds between 1st and 2nd place). Being able to pick 4 or 5 equally matched stock cars to race would just make it so much better.

Just give us an extended recommended list and all is solved!

If it was simply a driving game i.e driving through the twisty hills with traffic on the road etc then i would agree with some here that standard unmodified cars would be the way to go, BUT as a huge fan of motorsport and knowing all that i do on the subject even production car racing cars undergo a certain level of modification mild as that may be it is still present, the only circumstance where this would not apply would be a track day, but even on a track day people bring modified cars. Also in this game the unmodified real world car performance figures/top speeds/0-60 times are quite all over the place and are rarely accurate for whatever reason.

I've said this so often that I might put it in my sig... "You pays your money you plays your game".

If you don't like the people in your lobby then load your trunk and move out :D

I'm surprised how much disdain some people have for modifying cars, when what you posted is exactly right. Can anyone tell me a track day in which most of the cars had no modifications whatsoever, and tires no greater than H rated? ;)

I know that Forza has flooded their own community with 1000hp AWD Civics that can race equally with R3 class race cars, and this does leave an unsavory taste in many people's mouths when it's a similar case in GT5, but come on. This is a car modder's game. In fact, it's the original car modder's game. But not everyone turns all their Hondas into Zonda eaters. There are many of us who do like I do, and have a complete list of stock street cars to enjoy as they are, because I think only one or two here can afford to own more than two cars at once in real life. And I love all these cars. The physics are as close to real life as I've seen in a street car-based racing game, so I'm all about spending the extra credits to own clean versions.

But hey, most of us can't afford to do track days in real life either, and someone warned me about my Supra having oil starvation problems in track racing without some modification. Modding cars has its own joy too. ;)

I am not against car modding, I like it but I would like to have the option to drive default cars and have a fair race against other default cars.

Right now that is impossible. Is it ok for you that you can´t race no car in its original setting competitively? there is always an engine modification, weight reduction and/or gear ratio change you are forced to do if you don´t want to end dead last.

Try Shuffle Races.
As far as I know the cars in this mode are stock ;)

Why keep it stock when you could be so much faster.. I can spend a whole day tuning one car, for one circuit.. Fine tuning for me is awesome.

I, for myself, like to keep all cars stock. Even when I tuned some of the cars for the seasonal events, I always kept an eye that the attached parts were removable, because I removed them as soon as I passed the event. Whenever I want the parts again, I can just fit them to the car again. :)

I just like the fact that you can race normal cars in GT, and that's what is the most fun for me. :)

I have my collection of Skylines, all 23 of them have over 700 BHP

I tend to keep cars like the 458 stock, so I can enjoy the true power and feel of such a car.

Nothing against tuning a car but some overtune a car slap Racing Softs on it , appling every aid and can´t keep the car on the track.;)

I tend to debate when to mod a car or not, I usually mod only if I have to use it in a race. But many of my cars are stock and while fun to drive stock, some of them have horrible suspension set ups and that makes them bad for high speed thrills. My favorite is the Buick GNX it's completely stock out of the UCD, just refurbished the chassis and engine, and drove it around Trial Mountain, lets just say this car loves going sideways. Then these is the Aston Martin DB9 '03, this car is impressive and handles very well stock. I will probably mod both of these cars, but only after I get a back up unmodified version.

Honestly driving most of the cars in this game unmodified is fun for leisurely drives, but racing only the high performance machine can handle driving hard stock and that is a stretch. I do honestly wish that PD change a few things, that make no modifications permanent, seriously at the end of the day this is still a damn videogame. This might cut down on the endless clutter of having too many of the same cars.

Stock all the way, i only have 4 tuned cars to fool around with lol, it just ruins the character of the car when it has 1000hp,

Only mods ill put on a car is transmission so i can change the gear ratios and medium racing tires, other than that BONE stock

Plus it puts a smile on my face when i destroy people in mySV against there 800hp race spec tuned gtr's with a DS3 :sly:

Shuffle Race could have been SO much better...

It needs two or three more Tiers (based on your A-Spec level or License level or both) using higher power cars with better tires.

Now that PP levels are here, the cars need equal PP settings by ballasting and restricting the fastest cars.

It could also do with tweaked tuning settings (I consider 'tuning' to be separate from 'upgrading' - tuning is just adjusting whatever parameters you CAN adjust in Stock Upgrade level), maybe, like Shift 2, get a few 'tame race drivers' and have them tune each of the Shuffle Cars so they handle their best at the level they are at...

And, for us One Design fans, an option to restrict it to just ONE model from the list. But contact penalties need upping bigtime, you stick everyone in a pack so evenly!

This is something that would be very nice, to have stock races. Perhaps if the favourites tab would just be increased to all the premium cars.

I have almost all my cars available in stock form. I hardly ever purchase the engine stage mods since they cant be turned back. I have 8 NSX Rs, because imo that car is pure bliss. Same goes for race cars, I love realism so racing hards is the farthest im willing to go with tire choices others like medium, and softs offer unrealistic levels of grip.
