I hope i am posting this in the right spot, i have read over 4 tutorials now on drag tuning, i have used other tunes just to learn how to do this, i recently bought a 3000 GT MR (J) '98 and have tired to tune it now for over 2 days straight, i finally got it to run a 10:005, which i thought was great until i saw others tunes get something like a 9.785, i obviously am not asking for a tune, but for some advice on how to get my tune lower and lower, i really would like to learn how to do this for my cars. Great game, great site, thanks

2 days of tuning won't get you far. I have cars I have invested years (that's right, real life years) into to get fast.

That said, that was before SSRX, which now significantly speeds up the process. But it can still take thousands of hours to get a car fast if you are new to drag racing. eventually when you know what you are doing you can take a car and make it fast in about 2 minutes but that comes with experience.

I wish you the best of luck 👍

Don't forget on awd cars no camber or toe, front down back up, spring rates max/max

As slash said, lol. I bet he remembers little old noob me :) but after time, you will get there. Stick around on gtplanet and you'll get there no doubt. I started as a noob, slash and a couple hydro guys trained me, and now I'm the leader. It comes with time and experience. What used to take me a week now takes. 3 minutes.

It only took me 5 months to get fast when I started drag racing 2 years ago. But I'm even faster today than before.

Yea i think i got the basic AWD tools down, i am more confussed about, how do i know when to shift, i mean i read and understood the tutorials about powercurve, but that graph is terrible at showing me what rpm's are what, i feel like i just have to guess. i finally got it down about another tenth so i am pretty stoked, but i know i can fine tune this beast into 9.8's, just not sure what gears i need to shorten and lengthen, i can't wait until i can just pick up my controller and tune a car quick and easy lol

You will in due time. If you hit the tab to switch from the graph to stats it will tell you where it makes max power. Try beginning at that +300 Rpms then experiment.

Put the gears and close as possible and if you want to know what rpm to shift at, go to settings, then current performance, and you'll see max power with a / say the rpm number and that tells you where to shift.

I understand the max power shift, but i have read around that that shift is a beginner tune shift, because it might seem the best, but overall through the powerband, your average power is not as high as if you go a bit higher for the average, kind of like the +300 rpm's, that i am trying now

ok so next noob question, how often are you supposed to test run your car when you make a change, i feel like i test run it every little change i make, is that effective at all?

Yes, then you know what is effective.

ok thanks, hope you guys don't mind how many noob questions i have.

so is it better to use automatic then stick, i just used auto and got a better time then when i was paddle shifting.

and what exactly is the final gear?, when should i move it?

is the transmission the biggest factor in shaving 10'ths off my time?

Auto is easier to use, but Manual can get you much quicker times if you get the shifts right. Also people tend to be quite elitist about only using Manual, so it's a good idea to get used to it.

Exactly what it says on the tin. It's the last gear, and determines the top speed. It's generally a good idea to lower this as much as you can without redlining within the drag-strip length, whichever one you're using.

is the transmission the biggest factor in shaving 10'ths off my time?

Probably the biggest, but not the only factor. Have a read of this. dr_slump wrote and compiled a massive Drag Tuning Bible that's well worth a look.

Thanks, yea i just did an experiment with auto vs manual, and auto gave me the same time even though i shaved off a 100th when i was shifting manual, i have the g27 wheel so paddle shifting seems to be the best way to do this.

ok thanks, that actually is starting to make sense. and i have dr slumps bible in my favorites, actually read it a few times now.

thanks for all the help, i am 1 1000th away from hitting 9.8's, this has helped a lot thanks again

ok so if i am getting a low 0-60 time, but a great 0-100 time, and a great 1/4 mile time, does that mean i need to look into my 1st and 2nd gear or is that just normal at times?

Lol I remember when we use to race at circut de la Sartre with our vipers. Gooood times.

Also pyrox, can you post a picture of your transmission and suspension? It'll make it much easier for me and other people to help you. Thanks.

Not really understanding this part, put post a pic of your time and your transmission like Angels said.

This exactly. KT was a student of mine a long time ago and now he is top dog in a team I created and maintainted for such a long time. Stick around GTP and you'll find greatness be it any team you may join or wether you choose to stay solo.

Hell we still talk about how KT made himself look so professional because he was freaking out trying to PM me just to talk hahaha.

You'll get there. You've already made great progress, that's easily half the battle. once you get there, it's earning your rep that's the struggle, and with all the hybriding, it's going to be even tougher now so than before.

Yup, still remember those days, that was about a year ago in.... December?

Longer than that...I started end of 2010, so around Septemeber 2011 is when I met you but you knew who I was long before haha
