NOS effects?

The Gran Turismo series so far has not had a great deal of partical effects (eg exhaust smoke, flames) or general special effects (eg. motion blur) this is understandable as too many would make the game tacky and subtract some of the sim element.

I'm wondering if PD have implemented any extra effects for when using NOS. I wouldn't welcome motion blur or anything like that, but what about NOS flames from the tailpipes?

Obviously the inclusion of NOS is a very tenderloin subject around here but what are GTPlanet's members veiws on how PD might implement it?(now that we know they have)

For drag strip races only, I hope.
Me too. 👍 I think you can buy nitrous for any car, but only for drag racing and if you try to enter a race with it on a road course, it'll say sorry read race rules. That's the only way I could think of it being used.

It wouldn't be very fair online either if one of the racers has nitrous and everybody else doesn't. So obviously they have to put alot of thought into the idea of nitrous.

I too think that it should only be used for drag, but installing a nos system should not mean that car cannot enter track races, just not able to use it n them.

Anyone think we'll be seeing anything similar to that GT-R fake pic when we fire it up? or maybe some screen shaking when using the first person? will the sense of speed be exaggerated?

I have no idea what it will look like when the NOS is used, I agree that installing the NOS shouldn't stop you entering your car into races, the NOS function should just be disabled.

I think when you actuvate(:lol:Is that the right word?) it the controller or wheel should vibrate, and teh car should start to get a bit harder to handle from the high speed and fast acceleration.

I think it is quite interesting to see N20 confirmed, I hope they do it properly. It is used mainly in drag racing as it perfectly suits the short bursts of power needed for those events, but N20 does not last very long, it runs out quickly, so using it in a race wouldn't give such a huge advantage.

I am wondering if there will be a button assigned for the boost, or if it is connected to a certain rpm and will come in like a massive turbo boost. That would require a lot of skill to get right on a corner, as you'd have to anticipate the massive increase in horses.

I would think that it will be available for all races, except of course non-tuned events, but I really do hope you don't have "infinite nitrous" that would make it silly :)

Also about nitrous flames from exhausts, I'm not sure that the nitrous is actually the cause of those flames. For example on a top fuel dragster, the flames you see are not from fuel, Nitro methane burns yellow.
"The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing exhaust gases."

Lets not forget that the GT4 developers are not the same guys that made NFS underground. they will regulate usage of NOS, most likely only to the dragstrip.

Here is why it's only avaible in drag mode...
It's night at Las Vegas (just like in nfs:u , night)...
So I don't think PD would be so stupid to put N0S into a race/normal car at a day track example Suzuka ;)

Nitrous Oxide doesn't necissarily have to be "activated". You can also incorporate it in a fuel/air mixture. Maybe we have the option to change the fuel/air mixture.
But this makes me think of other types of fuel. We know diesel is in the game, nitrous oxide can not be used with diesel engines. Same goes for the electric cars. And then there's methanol, a fuel used in drag races for example. We don't know if that's in the game but it would be more "fair" than Nitrous Oxide it seems.
Methanol and Nitrous Oxide both are fuels that burn under very high temperatures. Most of the petrol engines "just can't take it". I'd like to see that in the game. For example, an Audi Aluminium engine might handle N2O better than a Fiat rust-block.

Is NOS the only brand of nitrous in the game?
Why would there be two, or more? It would take too long for the licenses to include more. Plus, I bet NOS paid PD money for the product placement, too. Maybe they paid NOS to the exclusive nitrous oxide system for GT4.

^Right now that's the only brand we can see.

There shouldn't be any special effects, nothing happens when you activate the nitrous in real life. And plus, the "button" to fire NOS in real life is primitive and a great way to grenade your engine. The new way is an electronic throttle and rev sensing chip, which "fires" the nitrous when your foot is to a certain point on the pedal, and the revs are at a specific point.

IMO, I think they'll restrict drivers from using N20 on tracks. I hope it's only gonna be in drag racing. And that's another reason that I'm glad the online mode is suspended. If they let everyone have nitrous, everyone would just be out on the drag strip getting their cars high with laughing gas.

Since there's nos in the game, I wonder if we will see the nos flames from the pipes. If we do, that could mean backfire for high-powered cars could be seen, I hope.

I agree with that...the flames you see in drag racing are not from the nitrous, but (techno alert!) "the stoichiometric 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture for nitro methane the flame front temperature measures 7050 degrees F" This huge temp breaks down the water vapour, and burns the hydrogen released.

Sadly, I think people are reffering "NOS flames" from what happens in the fast and the furious.

I hope when you instal "NOS" it adds weight to your car and screw up it's overall balance. My only real concerns about nos were for online play. Now that that is gone I'm not worried. I won't use it and I'm sure the AI will use it at the worst possible time ie. halfway through a corner.

No NOS, this is a real driving simulator, not some ricer playground. Get in line or go home kid
I'm curious to know who your talking to, since NOS has been seen in the game.

Fast and the furious ruined everything....it left every little kid in the world with the idea that they suddenly knew everything about cars.

Before: "WTF is this NOS you speak of?"

After: "Oh mayyyun yoo gotz 2 c diz NOSS it's da shyt, you push a button on yur car and flames go boom from da pipes and yur car gets wicked fast!!"

Sympathy for the poor soul that went and installed the push button nitrous. Bye-bye engine... :dunce:

And it also made the aftermarket fad worse. Before, it wasn't too bad, but now every tom dick and harry rides a rust bucket with 20 pounds of walmart crap on it. 👎

Not to mention the price of used supras skyrocketed. Went from 19K to around 33K I believe. Just because of that damn movie, everyone wanted one. I even have some loser idiot around my area whose poor Supra was transformed into Pure Uglyness (a.k.a FATF Supra) We would have been better off without it....

Well put, it's a cool movie, but the things that happened because of it.... meh, don't get me started.
