Seriously, with the way Ford is working you I would consider a different company. I'm not making suggestions for specific companies, I'm just saying that it sounds like you're not getting a fair shake.

I mean that in the sense that... This is your money and your car, do you really want a dealership giving you a choice of their pick or do you want to pick the car on your own?

No names still but I can tell you there are many companies out there that will work with you to make sure you get the car you want. I suggest you do that and get exactly what you want, not what the dealership wants you to buy.

Of course, if you specifically wanted to buy a Focus SE 5 spd then I suppose you're good to go.

Btw, although I'm not a Ford fan, I do like seeing people get a new car that they like. So be sure to be safe and enjoy the car. 👍
(I remember getting into discussions about buying a car on the GTP and there's always some jerk who thinks they know better than you and who insist on bashing the car you like the most) 👎

Thing is, Ford is giving me a break since I do work at the dealer. Every single financial institution I've submitted to has said in effect "hell no". I don't think Ford is giving me a bad deal, they just simply require ANY new car that is the same monthly payment as my current car. As well as the financed total price including my negative equity and taxes. There is only one car that fits those criteria--that being the Focus. I don't have a problem with getting one, infact I think it would be much more fun to drive getting the 5spd. And since it is a cheap car I can modify it. I might be able to get some Ford Racing parts for cost+10% which would be affordable.

Sounds like you've thought everything through. I say go for it! The Focus should be a reliable, fun little car, and best of all it's easy on the wallet! Good luck and have fun!

I really think this is false. What is your down payment?

Its not false, its the truth. I have ONE WEEK on the job and no job in the last 3 years more than 6 months. $500 down payment...and that is being funded by the refund from my extended warranty on my current Focus. I have less than $120 in cash at this time. There isn't ANY financial institution that will finance me on ANYTHING for 4.9% regardless of the situation. A 582 beacon, with no cash down payment, 4+ charged off accounts, and no solid job history puts me so far out of reach of anything that its impossible for me to get anything else with the payments and amount financed the same (or less) than my current Focus' loan--much less ANY OTHER loan amount. Its just the facts. I'm not a noob and have experience dealing in situations such as these.

Yeah, with the history you just laid out I'd have to say you're on the right track buying the Focus and pulling 4.9%.
Hell, I wish I could pull 4.9%. :(

None the less, what I was trying to get at is the idea that you should keep in mind who is driving the car (you) and what you want (specifics).

I'd just hate to see you end up in a car you didn't like.

That said, I know what it's like dealing with these situations and I totally respect your opinion of the situation.
Get the Focus, have some fun and enjoy the ride. :D

I wouldn't say the Focus is a bad car, either, just kinda long-in-the-tooth, not competitive with newer models. It was class-leading when it was introduced, and that's always a good thing.

and there's a good aftermarket. have yer fun!

Would I be shot down by suggesting a Contour SVT? My dad only has the 2.5 170BHP engined version, but it's still a nice car.

What the hell have you been doing the last three years that you haven't had a job?!

He's obviously been locked in a room with a copy of GT4, a 100 gallon tank of SunKist, and a big bucket o' chikin! :dopey:

Hope that this Focus will be as fun to drive as you're last! 👍 Good choice.

You misunderstand. I had worked just each job was not longer than 6 months--EACH. Financial insitutions don't count being self employed as a real job. So in their eys I was unstable. *shrugs*

Changing jobs a series of times in a three year period does qualify you as unstable. Do you disagree? The $500 down payment doesn't help.

Well duh. The fact that they don't acknowledge my self employment and contracted labor is the problem. To them they only see my 2nd suppliment jobs, and that's the problem. And $500 does help because that gets the total loan value down low enough to warrant the deal. Remember, I have to have the same payments or less as my current car in order for the financing. The $500 only drops the monthly payment by $8 or so but it is enough to get it below my current monthly payment. I'm well aware of what's going on and the factors involved here. :sly: 👍

I bought it today. And by "it" I mean a 2007 Focus SE. The black one sold this morning before I started the paperwork so I had to buy a dark red one. Its weird not having a tach. Sunday morning/afternoon I'm going to take her over to my brother's house and get him to take high quality snapshots of my new car.

However, if you can forgive the crap cellphone quality here's a shot of my old Focus (on the left) and my new one (on the right).

Here's a better shot of it in the daylight.

The pre-owned department still hasn't reconditioned my old Focus for sale so its still sitting in my parking spot. Kind of weird to park next to your previous car in your new car. :indiff: I do miss her, but at least I'll know that it will serve someone else well for years to come barring any car accidents.
