Howdy. Up until Saturday I've never owned a ps3. The only racing experiences I really had where on xbox, in the form of grid, race pro and forza 2-4. I'm kinda lost on what direction I need to be headed in. So far I've got gold medals in all the license completed through the international c, the go kart series is all gold, Jeff Gordon NASCAR is gold through intermediate, same with the AMG series. I've completed the top row of beginner series races, the lightweight k, and the fr championship. I tried doing the euro and the Japanese classic things but I don't have a car that meets the requirements. When I go to the ucd or the ncd, none of them qualify. So what do I do? I'm kind of lost on what I need to be doing, as its far different than what I'm used to. I don't even have a clue on how they class cars. Any ideas on what to do??

Also, sorry for any bad grammar. I'm from southern Kentucky and I'm on a smart phone :P

You'll have some fun with the Seasonal events once the Sony network comes back to life. Lots of credits to be earned, and some decent prizes. Some of the classic cars can be picked up in the New Car Dealerships (Benz 300SL Gullwing, for example), and the Used Car Dealership will cycle around - it replaces 6 cars every race you run, so if you do 5 races, all the cars will be replaced.

Oh, and folks around here are pretty good about sharing or gifting cars if you get stuck. There's some races where you'll want a Chapparal 2J, and people here pretty much always keep one on shared status.

Welcome to Gran Turismo, by the way!

If you FR tnogumbo and tell me what events you're trying to do, I'll gladly share the best car for the job. I also have a link to my shop and garage in my signature, I do have a schedule, but I can donate a ticket or two as a welcome to GTP and GT5 gift. I'll leave a Red Bull X2010 or 11 on share. Make sure you fully read the requirements for each event, there are a lot of loopholes to jump through. i.e. the European Hatch event...you don't need a hatchback, just a European car.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. I'll have to check the ncd again to see what I can find that I can race. Also, I would love to be able to check the OCD or do the seasonals but I'm limited to single player. Currently am playing the game from inside a semi truck with a power inverter and a CPU monitor. Makes it rather hard to share items or receive them on the road lol and I'd hate to keep someone's car for 6 days at a time with no guarantee that I'd be able to send it back when I got home due to other priorities.

Just was kinda unsure on how to do the beginner events when I couldn't find the vehicle. Thanks for the replies!

Good Luck to you, friend....when level is holding you back, when it comes back up for you the seasonals are definitely the greatest thing since sliced bread for avoiding grinding out career races you've already done. It definitely sounds like you're clicking right along and will do very well indeed with this game. Just keep remembering to check around once in a while at ALL the venues available to you as you level up (sounds like you're hitting on all 12 cylinders so far to me! lol)

Haha thank you. Just from doing what I've done, I'm already level 18. Just wanted to knock out the beginners series so I can advance up to the next series. I guess I'll have a look through the ncd for cars I can use. I didn't think they had the 79 or older cars in it??

This game is quite addicting so far and I don't believe I've gotten to the good parts yet. I had a blast going for the gold in the ams series.

Honestly, you should search out lists for Premium and Used cars so you can be familiar with what can pop up in the game. Also know that (once again, when it comes back up) the Seasonal series can have cars as awards also; A-Spec and B-Spec race series gives cars in addition to helmets, suits and horns upon medalling the series in question. I don't drift and hate most time trial events, but I can't say a car has NEVER been awarded for those too, but I've never noticed one there.

EDIT: seeing some chatter out there that long-suffering brothers and sisters are being able to sign in again....Go nuts, Brutha'!

I will see if I can dig up a list to better familiarize myself. But unfortunately I can't do seasonals. I play from the cab of a semi truck and Internet isn't easily accessible out here.

I think the solution to your dilemma is just to skip the classic events that you don't have the cars for, do some of the others, and keep an eye on the UCD for the classic cars. They come around pretty frequently, so you shouldn't have to wait long. Just remember you don't have to do event in order, you just have to have the required level.

But do you have to complete the beginners series before moving up to the next?

No it's all about level, in the corner of each event is a number from 1-40, that's the level you need to be on to do that particular event. It's the same with b-spec. A- spec levels do not carry over to b- spec, b- spec is all about managing drivers you create. If you put drivers online, others can race with them and earn you a great deal of cash as well as level advancement.

Weeeeeell thank you for that info. I never paid attention to that before! I thought maybe that was their way of forcing you to play other parts of the game. Unlock cars by completing other evens in order to move up. Guess ill be going to the amateur league now lol thanks!

Edit: is there somewhere I can find out which cars are the best to use for certain events? I'd hate to buy a car only to find out its the worst of the group.

If you're level 18 then you can compete up to the Japanese Championships in Expert series which is 3 levels up so you have plenty of room to move about...Welcome to :gtplanet:..👍

For me personally, I've gone from buying to win to buying because. I have all but 90 some odd cars from the used dealerships. And in the seasonal forum you can find much of that stuff, I can also help, I'm often on and am more than willing to point you in the right direction. You can add tnogumbo (I think I said that already) and I respond quickly to many messages. Look through my garage and tell me what car you want anything listed as tradeable in the garage, tell me and I'll send it on my next open trading slot.

Just look at the typical opponents tab in each race series and use that as a base. After while, you will get a feel for how many PP above or below the AI you need to be to get a competitive, winnable race.

Alright. Will do. I appreciate it! I'm not sure how the whole online deal works on this game yet. Not even sure how to really add people lol

Okay. Thanks. I'm still trying to get the hang of the pp system. In forza it was labeled completely different. Using letters as well as numbers. This will take some getting used to.

You're pretty experienced in driving games, so I don't wish to bring up some obvious things, but in the realm of "wish I knew then what I know now"....KNOW that engine build upgrades (stage 1, 2, 3) are permanent....at times PD issues restoration tickets that can be used from your items menu (far left middle of your GT Life home page)....these take a car all the way back to stock, but a far easier and less expensive (as long as it works!) method is in tuning to just turn a built motor down on power if needed for a particular PP race....and know that PP ratings were an afterthought in this game so it's not particularly dependable; use common sense when matching a Lotus Elise against a Cuda paying attention to what kind of track you'll be on, possible top speed needed, things like that. Use practice frequently and freely to get an idea of your tune results and how different cars with similar PP act. Forget HP as a guide to what to race, the PP and weight and tires make MUCH more difference in this game now, IMO

(When you can get online) To add a friend, and btw, you see a lot of "send a FR to....); that's a "friend request", and to do that you can leave the game running, but with the PS button in the center of the Dualshock controller just tap that once and you should be taken out to the main PS3 menu (what you see when firing up the PS3 before any game loading. on the far right is the communications section. Go up or down til you see "add a friend"....type in anyone's name (helps to clear this first in here, to avoid rejection or using the wrong name, not all posters here post under their PS sn) and send your request. you'll be notified if the other person accepts your request if your notifications is set to "on" (I believe that's the default setting). At that point vehicle and gear (paint chips, racing suits, helmets and various coupons or tickets) can be gifted between you, amounting to the trading trade here

Finding the right car (or any race-specified/appropriate car): when you get to the race menu, where you see the trophies and prizes and a clipboard and garage icon, etc....the clipboard shows you possible foes in the race....you can note their PP, weight, etc.....always know that there are cars they aren't gonna show but will definitely roll out to try to beat you if you bring a hoss....their strategy varies; sometimes you bring the minimum you think you can win with, and there's a beast near the front you'll never catch; sometimes you pick something within the rules THEY know will win, and just throw out creampuffs.....The Garage emblem: careful here: the first icon will take you to your premium garage and show ONLY those cars that already fit the race requirements....remember there's a tab for standard cars so if you have them, any car that can fit in the rules AS IT SITS RIGHT NOW will be displayed.....Special Note here: If you are in a car that's over the race limits (as long as the only thing wrong is your tune or tires) you can hit the race as if you wish to enter with what you currently are driving, and it will take you to the rules=appropriate cars in your premium garage.....when they take you to your garage, your cursor should by default be resting on the key emblem in the framework of the garage page...that denotes the car you are currently in. Press that key and you will go to the page for your current car, where you can de-tune if nescessary to meet the rules. And yes, this is ALL a big pain lol. The Other Garage Icon: takes you to your full garage, and it's up to you to de-tune any car you choose outside the race rules. The last thing i suspect I don't have to tell you is you WILL occasionally make a mistake in all this once in a great while lol, even when you get perfectly used to everything and how to get to it

My biggest current mistake-prone act? being in the wrong car, going to the garage from the race menu, finding a hoss i need to de-tune, fix it all just right, back out all the way back to race menu, hit go, and finding I never actually CHANGED to the car I tuned lolol

Okay! Thanks for all the info! I know what you mean about the hp, weight and pp. A lot if factors come into play as well as fr, ff, mr and etc.
haven't really had to much time to spend messing with the ps3. The first night was spent downloading updates. The next day was racing and then it was time to get back on the road.

If anyone wants to add me, my psn id is the same as my forum name. If I'm online and I have time to race, I'll race.

I don't race online, but if you just want a friend to shoot sh&t off of now and then, I do respond to messages when I'm on (I have quite wierd hours, might work for ya, being on the road and all). Generally I'm not on PSN overnight, as the game is usually in the BR where the wife prefers her "beauty sleep" undisturbed by whirring discs, button mashing, and occasional unplanned yet uncontrolled gasped explicatives from me. Once in a great while I'll go to the trouble to move it to the LR, so it's possible to see me whilst the moon doth wane, but that's an exception....but feel free to add me ( bluecharger43) and whenever I see ya I'll accept and you'll have a fair fount of knowledge who's been thru all this junk....I've golded all but 4 of the License tests, you're already better than me in the specials, have all but maybe 6 prize cars and the special Chrome and Stealth edition cars, and have finished gold in every career race (A and B spec) and series. Just don't ask me about drifting lolol

Haha okay that sounds good to me. I have a weird schedule myself. I work 6 days then off 2. I start my weeks out at around 10 am but by the end of my week, I'm starting out at 8-10 pm and working around 12-14 hours a day (if you can call it work lol) I know what you mean about the mrs. I hook my ps up in the bed room too because I can't stand the input lag on the tv in the living room. Plus I have a 5 month old that sleeps in her crib in my room so when she's asleep = everything that makes a noise is off!!! Plus I have 2 step sons that are 4 and 3. So if I put my ps3 in the LR it'll get destroyed lol I mainly do my online gaming around noon - 3 pm if I'm home off the road during the day but it depends on what time I get home the night before and what time I go out that day. If I'm gonna be in the truck all 6 days it comes with and I won't be online or if I get home at 4-5 am and have to be back on the road at 4 I won't be on. As you can tell my schedule is hit and miss lol

Edit: btw, you don't have to worry about drifting questions from me. I hate drifting. Lol

Holy Cow I get why you're OTR roflmao. I'm a retired mechanic (not disabled or anything, just quit LOL) and have been so for several years now, with the detriment that with no "steady" schedule timing gets off a bit lol. Rather than sleeping, I think I term my activities as "getting from one nap to the next" lol. How long will I be up? I dunno, what do i gotta do? When will I be up? I dunno, when do I NEED to be up? kinda nuts, but I'm not adjusting lolol.

As for drifting, I actually once played NFS's Pro Stock with drag, drift and racing, and LOVED it.....PD just doesn't do it like i like it lol (and SUPERB painting and decal apps in that game). Gawd my dragsters were works of art LOL

Usually takes couple of hours to get use to drifting :) You'll get it soon, don't forget to get your tuning right :sly:

I tried on here, I swear iI have lol....used the Caterham, Challenger, Nissan 240s and 270s, even a Mach 1 that had me apologizing to the car Gods lol....so far, I just don't care for the way it works on GT5

As far as sharing, don't worry about it - anything I put on shared status, I've got more than one of already. And as far as gift cars go, no need at all to return those - they're gifts! :)

I'd forgotten about the Euro Hot Hatch series - I was a bit shocked when I entered it with a Ferrari 512BB and it let me... ;)
