We have recently confirmed usage of illicitly modified game data in the online services of Gran Turismo 6, and the relevant user's PlayStation®3 systems have now been banned from the service.

Hereafter, these systems will no longer be able to access the online features of Gran Turismo 6.

Please be aware that usage of illicitly modified game data and any mischievous conduct against other players using such data are strictly prohibited, and will be subject to penalties as soon as they are found.

We ask everyone for their continued understanding and support.

Wow. I was kind of wondering why they hadn't resorted to console banning. Seemed odd what with, I'd assume are obvious, new accounts being made after a ban.
 
This means some poor innocent victims out there are about to lose access to their console/GT6 online features when the hackers spend all of 5 minutes stealing someone else's console ID.

Understandable measure from PD, but like last time, it will have no effect at all, it is very easy for the hackers to spoof their console and fool the servers. Meanwhile, other people are going to wonder why they have suddenly been banned.

Exactly innocent people always pay the price. people who hack has total control of their ps3 i mean total , just like root access on your phone

How do these atrocious people steal another person's console ID? I didn't know that was possible. Are there any steps I/we can take to protect ourselves?
 
No steps you can apply, if you go online with them they can extract your id through add ons they can install on there ps3's these record data that is revived via game lobbys like ip numbers and console ids etc etc

Unfortunately we cant do anything to protect ourselves because we would have to hack the ps3 to install such protection and thats the paradox we rely on sony being our defense via un hackable software lmao hence the hackers will always win and we will lose
 
This sounds like something only a few people are capable of doing. So console bans still roll out a fair amount.

only need to go to a certain forum mate install a app and read the tutorial... if they hacked there ps3 you can be certain they protected it from sony think of it as a modified players meet list from the menu instead of just there name it gives you all the connection details via the network

@nk4e you can chop and change car values remove bumpers etc drive on the moon loads of stuff
 
I was thinking in the sense where you have the few who create these things and then many people who simply use the tools. But I guess it wouldn't be that hard? Well who knows how many people actually go that far.

Because for some people, if they can, they will. Not everyone does things above board. The saying "It's only illegal if you get caught" was made for a reason... sad but true.

I don't condone such actions, especially if truly innocent people are affected, just to make that clear.

i am all for jail breaking but not to cheat honest players, i hacked my ipad to i could install my own software emulators etc but the ps3 i rather have a peace of mind and know i can just play without worrying about bans etc

i doubt it it when you all connect to a lobby that's when the data is intercepted any in and out connections if that makes sense it will leave a digital trail like ip adress console number and probable internet provider and maybe a partial post code .. like the Data you see in file sharing programs like lime wire or bit torrent

That I have no problem with cause you don't affect others by doing so... I won't condemn someone for a choice like that cause I have done similar things as well in the past for computer games etc etc. Knowledge is power and if it helps to achieve a better experience for your situation, then go for it. No other people's lines are being crossed. I also haven't done anything with my PS3 either, because I made an informed decision to help me make that choice.

Damn, guess I'm looking to buy another PS3 just incase.
 
If I had any knowledge on how to do this, it would solely be for the purpose of fixing the cars with less then desirable sound samples. For instance, if that sample from the Rocket car was pitched up an octive, it could be put in the Toyota TS030 Hybrid. Or the Mercedes SLS AMG road car could have its sound sample put in the GT3 car or even the sound sample from the Corvette Sting Ray Racer and put it in the Corvette Z06/ZR1 LM Race Cars
 
Maybe the resent PS3 software updarte could prevent this?
 
What about the credit hack, PSN members that took advantage of this back during the games launch be banned also? If not how is that not different?
 
Just a PR move on Sony/PD's part. Only the uninformed will be impressed by something like this and that's what they count on.

They might be using something more sophisticated than just the ID number. Like a check to detect changes to the software on the PS3 such as save files, operating system files etc. The latest update might even have included routines to do this.
