Hi everyone... First of all, great job on the new website and forums, you guys did a great job at bringing online and, having been visiting the forums here for the past month, it's a really nice look. Thanks for your hard work!

Af far as the subject of this post, forgive me if it annoys any of you for bringing it up, but I have noticed lots of bickering back and forth about whether or not Ferrari and Porsche will be in the game... However, I just checked the Master Car List, and Ferrari and Porsche has recently been added. I'm just wondering where this came from, as I know cars will not be added onto the list unless there is reasonable "proof", per se, that the cars in question will be in the game. So basically, that's my question... what caused those two makers and their respective cars to be added? Once again, forgive me if this has been discussed, but searching would have turned up hundreds of results lol.

Well, keep up the entertaining threads and replies... they're great! And GTP, keep up the great work!

Todd

Hey Todd and welcome to GTP, Im glad you like it.

As far as the car list goes theres been loads of deliberation about certain car makers being in and not being in GT4 - As I (nor anyone else) cannot say for certain Ive decided to just wait and see and if they are there then good if not then it wouldnt really bother me !

OH and yes - the thread will undoubtedly annoy some members but hey - we arent all perfect !!!

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay.

Any of the car lists posted on here are not offical. PD have yet to release any kind of offical word on the number of cars, or which cars will make it into the final game. So there is still no word on whether Porsche and/or Ferrari will make it into the final version.

Cheers

Jamie

If you read the key to the car list at the top then you will notice that the colours mean different things.

The first colour depicts "Seen in screenshots and/or confirmed" (Basically expect these cars in the game!)
The second colour depicts "Seen to be testing but still not confirmed" (Basically expect most of these cars in the game but they are not confirmed)
And the third category is "Mentioned in Magazines but not confirmed" (Basically they've been mentioned but don't get your hopes up)

The Ferrari's and Porsche's are in the second colour...

This gives a lot of people hope... but we won't find out til the end of the year!

I definitely understand that it is not an official list, and I'm not expecting those cars to be in the final release just because they are in the Master list... All I'm really wondering is how they made it onto that list, considering that we can't just say "Oh this car should make it in just cuz its a cool car and PD would be stupid to leave it out", you know? Perhaps the author of the Master list would best answer this question, I think.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

I was thinking about that... I HAVE seen the talk about the pictures of Porsches and Ferraris being tested and photographed, as well as the pictures themselves, and it would be puzzling to see them there and not see them in the game, although there's always a legal issue... So I guess the cars were added as a result of those pictures, then? Thats what my guess would be.

On a lighter subject, the Modena and the Stradale sounds juicy :)

In an interview Kazunori Yamauchi President of Polyphony Digital, vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment and creator of the GT series of games said that Ferrari and Porsche will not be included in GT4. Which seems pretty official to me.

Good point :) I guess we'll all just have to wait and see though.

Now... what are we doing up so late? lol

HA Its 10 AM for me - Ive a full day to do at work until I get home go to the gym clean the house cook the tea (g/f helping out as well) then when she goes to bed early cos shes tired I get to play GT3 !!

and gt4 has also been postponed untill November, possibly so its just after ferarris deal with electronic arts expires... but do we realy need to go over this again? no

Kazunori is vice president of SCE? Intresting..

The Ferraris and Porsches made an appearance in the DVD shipped along with the PAL version of GT4P. The cars were in focus several times, including a test session where PD staff tested stability systems.

We all will have to wait and see. It wouldn't be a wise ideal of pd to put so much porsche and ferrari media in a gt4 product and not include them in the final game. I dare to say, they showed too much ferrari and porsche media, they were waving the cars all in our faces.

Todd, have a look @ https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1105266&postcount=76
for some interesting thoughts towards the P&F debate... you'll see a few people adament that they won't be in... but even people who are sceptical like me have to see some logic and foundation in these arguments for inclusion. :sly:

BTW, the EA license is up in November... a Ferrari rep has declared their desire to be in GT... PD delayed the release to November... Ferraris and Porsches have been seen been driven by PD staff @ a PD event, and have now appeared in an official GT product... you do the math. 👍

I totally agree with phantasm that things do seem to add up, but then you hav that whole thing about KY saying Ferrari and Porsche will NOT be in GT. Peopel here seem to think he's said other things have appeared that he's said won't be in, but they haven't. Anmd anyone thinking of saying what about the ring, KY never once said that wouldn't be in. Then again it would be a great suprise for proper car nuts worldwide if they did appear in the game last minuet but no-one can give an accurate answer on this subject outside of Sony and PD. But you will still see people adamant they are either in or out, and then there are people like Cobra who say they must be in, because they have been shown in that video and it would be unwise for PD to show them if they wern't. Heres the only reply to that statement, it would not be unwise to show that since it was only shown AFTER KY said Ferrari and Porsche will not be in GT4. However the fact that PD denied their appearence still doesn't confirm anything at this stage.

Wait and see.

And this answers the original question perfectly.

To summarise - they're on the list as being seen on testing, but not seen in screenshots, because they're on the DVD bundled with GT4P. As to whether they're in the game, who knows? :D

phantasm
a Ferrari rep has declared their desire to be in GT...

Can you imagine what an honor that would be? To be desired by an automaker such as Ferrari? (Okay that didnt sound right but hey, whatever lol) 98% of the time, it's the game makers and the gamers that desires the make, but apparently GT has been lofted to such heights that Ferrari DESIRES to be in the game... even after Kazunori went the Ford route with the GT40 lol

The main reason is, GT has boosted cars sales, TVR is the best example and the sales of the Nissan Skyline's. If it can boost sales of cars then car companies will be queing to get in on the action. The fact the KY bought a GT40 has nothing to do with Ferrari wanting to be in GT and it wouldn't of had anything to do with the final descision if KY had to grovel at their feet to get them into GT.

Kaz also has declared his love for the fine italian ladies dressed in red with their yellow and black badges ;) The only problem in the past was licensing... November seems to be the magic date.

As for desiring to be in GT, the game has achieved a tremendous level of respect in the auto industry. Manufacturers, journalists, test drivers, etc... have really gripped onto the series i'd say because the GT mantra is true to the love of cars, real driving, and racing... not too cheesy street racing, huge comic like crashes, and tailpipes you can stuff a small child into. The focus on things like driving physics and track/vehicle replication give true car lovers that fill that was lacking in past games, especially on consoles. you never see an article in lofty car mags comparing cars in games like NFSU with those in real life, but many mags/shows have shown GT versions of cars along with their lifelike companions, and something has to be said about that... also take for example the test driver for Nissan, who ripped up the ring in real life Skyline testing, HUGE GT fan, to the point where he was involved in comparing his real life track time to his virtual one in GT (only 1% difference in times)... that's the kind of repsect from true industry players that can't be gained from pretty damage or "fancy" paint jobs. And the end result of all this is a boost in brand image and inevitably sales... as seen by TVR for example... and $ makes the world go round :sly:

EDIT: Point already made.....

Actually, he didn't. He said technically, LeMans was impossible at this time to include at the level he would require. Everyone (myself included) presumed that the Ring would be impossible too, but also he might have just found a new method that made longer tracks possible after that comment was made.

GT4's theme is car history, right? Ferrari, porsche, and lambo are big players in car history, and not having them in gt4 would be some what strange. And gt4 will have 80 car makers, 80...... how could ferrari, lambo, or porsche miss the list? Maybe my assumptions are wrong, I hope they aren't but with 80 car makers, even mclaren should be in.

No matter how much GT4's theme is history, that theme has nothing to do with how PD are or are not able to get hold of the Ferrari and Porsche licences. Not having Ferrari and Porsche would not mees up GT4's theme, there are plenty of other makes that are up there with them and eren higher in historic significance. I can name well over 100 car makes without mentioning Ferrari or Porsche with relative ease, so the number of car makers is irrelevant. Finally, Ferrari and Porsche could want to be in GT4 like I want to sleep with Carmilla DeCesare (thats an awful lot of wanting), but as long as they are taken by existing contracts they can't do a thing either.
