How do I get the notification for a social group invitation to go away? I don't see a "deny" button anywhere...

While viewing the page which shows your group invitations, click on the group's name (you'll be taken to the group's page) and then click "Decline Invitation" near the top right of page in the red bar.

You're welcome. It's really not the best design decision by the vB developers - you should be able to decline or accept requests en masse from that invitations overview page.
