At the weekend I Turned an old B&Q Work bench into my foldable GT5 bench :)

It started of like this :

With a little spent on it, now looks like this:

And yes it still folds up and yes thats a glossy Carbon fiber effect on the top. :sly:.

I Received a brand spanking G27 yesterday, opened the box and was impresed with the quality of the product.

I set it all up and watched the wheel spin from side to side, whilst it calibrated its self. So with a smile I got on with the driving.....

After 2 hours of racing I have to say im totally Happy with it. All I had to change was the force feed back so it was a liltle bit stronger. but apart from that all good out of the box.

I even had one of those WOW moments when I cliped a Chicane and I could totaly feel it through the steering wheel, as if I had actualy gone over somthing in a real car.

I notised that even though I thought I was going slower with the wheel than the sixaxis controler, it seemed my lap times tumbled with the wheel. so much easier....

My only little moan is that the break pedal feels to spongy to be a break pedal. but apart from that for a simulator set its awsome. 👍

Now if PD would release a config for it so we can use the rest of those buttons.

I really want me one of those. I haven't had a wheel since GT4 and now I've too many financial commitments to splash out hundreds, or in my case thousands on something that is only for my pleasure and not to the benefit of my family. Soon though, soon I'll have one, hopefully by Xmas.
Also this should probably be in the 'Wheels and Cockpits' section.

I had a G27 but got sick of the horrible 1-2 shift that 99% of the time put me into Neutral. No thanks. I'll be picking up a T500 eventually.

You're aware that it only happens in Gran Turismo 5 ?
PD did a nice job dumbing down the the Logitech G27.

you do realize it is just cause you probably dont press the clutch hard enough because it is an on/off function in GT5 and you sometimes go neutral right?
dont blame he hardware before you blame yourself. i never have this problem

And that's why it doesn't cut it with gran turismo...clutches aren't on and off in real cars. They have points in which they engage meaning in some cars you don't have to push the clutch to the floor to engage it fully. Some cars yes, but this is without a doubt a design flaw in the game and or the pedal itself. I have one that I never use not only because of this but because half the buttons do nothing. My horn button on my DFGT finally works, I think I will stick with it...I like it much better. Plus, no on the fly tuning with the g27. My cousin gave me his g27 he hated it so much...:). Lucky me!
 
When I owned a G27, the 1-2 shift failed specifically when at redline or when shifting fast. My real car doesn't even have a light flywheel and I can still rip a flawless 1-2 shift faster than the G27.

The g27 had an advantage in gt5 and kaz and PD made it that way to nullify them. If you could hold red line and shift with a clutch you'd be way faster and unfair for everyone else.

Also Velcro an old controller to the middle of the g27 wheel. Then u can program the buttons to do everything n anything you want.

Yeah bolted through the 6 hols in the bottom of the pedals (the peice its bolted to is smaller because it can fold up and wont catch anything whist doing so.

The pedals might look high, but thats because the dimensions from the wheel to the pedals to the seat (that I will be using) are in the same hight to my actual car, so it does feel natural to me when racing. The wheel can also be adjusted back and forth by lossening the thubscrews each side and alows the top to move to where you want it.

Its the tv in the bedroom. Dont worry a big tv screen is on its way.

If you let the rpms fall you won't have this problem. It is frustrating at first though. Also make sure your foot is completley off of the gas bedal and clutch is kept in before hitting second.

I always tot it is my skill that I always can't shift 1 to 2 properly. Seeing this thread reassure me it is truly a glitch. U must shift very slowly or shift bef red line in order to get to 2nd gear n that's why I always last when picking up fe standstill sigh

Nonetheless it is still an awesome wheel for it's price
 
I got mine about two weeks ago and I've put probably a hundred driving hours on it, and I have come up with two issues with the G27 that really irk me.

1) Input does not always equal output.

I drive the same exact race almost 20 times a day to generate income because this particular seasonal is very lucrative and I know exactly where to accelerate and where to brake on this track. Sometimes I will stand up on my brake pedal from the exact same point where I was braking during the last 3 runs, but the car simply won't stop. It just keeps skidding until I'm in the gravel or bouncing off a wall. All other factors are a constant. I'm not playing with the tuning at all, it's pretty much perfect for the map but sometimes the inputs simply don't generate the correct output.

2) Steering "slipping".

As you know already the wheel uses helical gears to put tension on the wheel while you steer in order for realism and to jerk and shake the wheel when you hit rumble strips and other terrain which is pretty cool.

On the other hand, the wheel is completely unrealistic at times. Sometimes I'll be cranking the wheel around a corner and the tension will suddenly just slip gears and leave me with a huge inch long dead spot... and when the tension returns my wheels are suddenly not aimed where I wanted them in the least and I'm spinning out of control. On certain tracks this happens a LOT, on others not so much, even when the turns are similar.


Overall, it's a much much better experience than the DS3 pad, but it still leaves a lot to be desired... much like GT5 on the whole to be quite honest.
 
Looks good but the shifters on the wrong side. Lol

I'm so glad I'm in america. The 1-2 shift must be torture on the wrong side irl.

Very nice job! excellent setup! I bet that is hella fun to play with!

But yeah, you need a nice new LCD TV. Playing in high def will make you enjoy it that much more!

lmao the wrong side. tut tut. Well if you look on the opposite side to what i've got it attached to. There are 2 screw holes, so this means i can have the shifter on any side. :) I;ve read the trouble you guys are getting shifting from 1st to 2nd, and I've hever missed a shift 1st to 2nd. strange. allthough I have from 3rd to 4th and 5th to 6th. lol

Yeah i know what you mean about TV but Im saving up for a 42incher so that should finish of the project nicely.

Kinda sounds like your just hitting a large bump (or maybe a dip) mid corner with just the front wheels (maybe just the inside). Ive experienced something similar with my DFP on one particular track that comes to mind. Cant remember the name and I'm away from the game, its the track with the big left hander that swings you right out to the face of a cliff. Several spots in that series of left handers I experience a loss of tension as if all the weight came off the front wheels like they've lost contact with the pavement.
 
I think the 1-2 miss shifting issue was cause by tire spin, I found that I can't change shift with clutch when tire got specific spin level in GT5 , tire always spining when standing start at 1st gear, that's why always miss when shift to 2nd gear.
Just my 2cent.

Im a gt5 drifter and if theres any wheelspin it wont shift. I just cancel out the clutch.
