Ok, I've decided to take the plunge and see what 1.00 is like one and a half years later (and especially since I've only experienced 1.01+).

I'm taking pictures of the menus, cars, etc. to see (and show) what life was like before our fancy seasonals and login bonuses. I'm planing on a week or so of "documentation."

I'll try to keep it going - school is an issue, so updates may not be often.

The first bit:
The "year and a half" was a round up/exaggeration. Why the nitpicking? People do it all the time - the Corvette ZR1 costs $110,300 (already rounded), and people say it costs $100,000. See? Now pick on someone else, please .

The reason I want to do this is to A) see what 1.00 was like (I've only played on 1.01+) as I don't remember it that well and B) just show people how far we've come. Apparently that's not acceptable. I guess I'll just stop now.

Kidding. Don't like it? Don't read it. :dunce:

Back onto topic:
The physics:
This isn't my strongest point - I can barely detect a difference, but it's there. As I recall from pre-2.00 (or whatever update revamped the physics), a 787B on racing softs would severely snap back if you tried to recover from a spin...causing you to actually spin out. And it didn't happen just on the 787B ether - most LMP cars and a variety of others did so too. Not sure, but I think comforts have more grip too (then again, I don't have my garage, so I'm stuck with low end cars). I still like 2.00's better :).

The AI:
Yep, it's pretty bad. They aren't GT4 clones, but they're close - hogging your racing line, driving slow around corners, acting like tanks...but they're more humane.

Or not.

He was in my way and braked early, honestly officer :nervous:.

And then this little crash:
grandvalleyeast1n.jpg

Which was probably caused by this:
grandvalleyeast3.jpg

(Yes, I was trying to block them)

AI improved? Definitely.

The Pixelated Shadows (of rage?):
I don't really care. I don't. I've noticed before (who hasn't?), but I've never cared to whine about it. Is it a bit ugly? Yes...but at least you can be assured the days of 1.00 are gone:

That's Cape Ring.

But then I saw this at Tsukuba:

And here I thought it always looked "ugly." I guess not 👍.

The Standing Starts:
Remember this?
thetopgeartesttrackq.jpg

Didn't think so. I was surprised that the TGTT ever had a standing start. I only saw this in the Lightweight British Championship so far. Cool? Certainly.

That's all for the moment.

Can't wait!

This is Mission control. What can you see Bowman?

""The thing's hollow—it goes on forever—and—oh my God—it's full of skylines!"

👍+2001

Can't wait though! I really want to see how far we've come :)

Hope you can get a detailed report for us. + Looking forward to it.

You should look at the ALTO WORKS and see if it really was graphically glitched.

Honestly, I messed around with GT5 v1.00 when my PS3 died and I had to reinstall everything from scratch, and really, it's not that different; the make-up of the game has not changed at all. It's more about what has been fixed, rather than what has been added to significantly advance the game, and to the latter of which, there is very little.

You will simply conclude that the updates only added what should have been there since the start, that the basic make-up of the game has not changed at all and that there are still glaring issues that have not been addressed.

I'd be interested in seeing pics of standard cars, then and now. Simply to prove us right (or wrong) that they've been gradually improved through the updates

How about the lego brick shadows, water spray from v1.00 compared to now,
Must admit PD sorted it well as i'v not noticed it for a while and totally forgot about it.

Also i'd like to see if a wet track at night has massive glare off the spray from the car in front in v1.00, Did an wet night online race the other day and all I could see was a huge white dot in front had no clue how close i was, Even turning high beams off didn't help to much.

I played 1.00 at my friends last week, it is shockingly bad, you will not belive how they could of released it like that.
Carefull of magnetic cars too, touch a car in a race from behind and you will stick to it, can't move left or right, you have to let right off the gas, its extremely annoying on Nurburgring.

This sounds interesting! What would happen to your DLC though?

I downgraded once to uninstall my DLC before you could sell them from your garage. When I tried to load up the game, it never really seemed to make it. I didn't need to load it but just a note to remember.

This is my experience as well. Current game save is not compatible with 1.01 it seems.
While you are back in the world of 1.01, check out the Grand Tour Lambo race which has a different Toscana course. I found the old one to be a lot easier to gold than the new one.

I find this very interesting because sometimes we download an update to a game and there's nothing really noticeable that has changed. Either that or it has changed so slowly, we barely notice it.

EDIT: I can definitely tell you that V1.00 has standing starts in offline races. In one of the updates the standing start for offline races was removed and replaced with rolling starts.

Edit: Could use some suggestions on what to look for.

Except it's not been a year and a half yet, only 4 months in(to year 2). Wait until May 24th. And I really don't see the point in doing this, nostalgia? I lived it, I don't really need to re-live it do I? Oh I get it, you're just really bored with the game right?

turbedit:
In other words, much of the earlier game is forgettable for me, thus my opinionated reply to the OPs idea of looking back at what's occured in the game. I would rather move forward. OK? phil, mcfizzle, jakhole? You guys ok with this reply now or are you going to torch me some more?

4 months?

Where you live?

The game was released 24th NOV 2010!!!

Like Phil said, 4 months? Really? Maybe for you but most of us it's been almost 16 months. And if you don't see the point in this, why come in here and complain? If you don't want to re-live it you don't have to, just don't enter the thread.

OP it will be interesting to see that changes that we have forgotten about. Standing starts and the Toscana Lambo track change are the big ones I can think of. You should feel a difference in physics also. A lot of small improvements have been made and those may be harder to realize.

I believe he meant for months for spec 2

I think what he meant to say was "A year and 4 months".

One of the most random, crap replies I've ever read.

I think what he meant to say was "A year and 4 months".
👍

OP
Would the pictures come out clean? I'd like to see the difference between Suzuka, then and now.

Sounds good ~ :)
See what you can come up with ~

4 months in to the second year people, how hard is that to comprehend? It was implied. I thought I was dealing with educated folk here, but I guess not.
Since when can't a guy express an opinion in these threads? That's what they're for right? It's not a complaint, it's an OPINION!!!
Now back off with the attacks already.
I've fixed(shouldn't have needed to) my post to read easier. Happy?

Bravo! Bravo!

I did not see an encore coming. :)

You didn't? He had on choice but to make it easier to understand what he meant.. I understood it.. I kind of agree with him, I don't see the reasoning behind "Downdating" GT5.. I mean I can see the - nostalgia, behind it all.. but when do you draw the line and say, "hey - this is useless" :)

Can't wait to see your "Documentation" ;)

I'm still playing v.1.00.

I can't even save my game.

However - I just got a dedicated internet line into my PS3 a few days ago. Now, every time I start up, up comes a message asking me to download v. 2.05. I refuse and continue to play my v.1.00 game - almost at the end now.
Actually, I've reached the 'sweet spot' in the game now - no more hunting for cars, just boot up and do any one of a hundred activities the game provides.

I intend to update (and finally come online for racing) as soon as I level off at A-Spec/B-Spec level 38.

Yes, I feel like a virgin. I'm hoping the honeymoon won't be too rough.

photonrider, you're in for quite the wild ride on that honeymoon of yours. Purely from a physics standpoint, online is different than off. Actually, warmup laps are different in online than race laps are from the physics side. Setups what work well on any given car offline or in practice online are suddenly different once on the track in an actual race. That alone will take some getting used to.
Then there's the people......man, the people! Well, someone else can go there if they want, I'm not.

photonrider -

Girl you'll be a Marussia soon.

One thing... it will take A LONG TIME to update your game.

So plan to do something else to occupy your time... I think My game took well over an Hour.

Befroe you update drive the Drand Tour special event in the Lambo Murceilargo (sic) the track apparently changes in Spec 2 so this will be you last chance... so to speak.

Updated! (finally ;))

More to come in a couple days.

It's good but side by side comparisons where possible would be great.
