Does this still bother you guys as much? How do you deal with the different sections? Do you ONLY buy the premiums or do you just buy the cars you want to buy?

I mean other then the graphical differences, do you still get the "wow, this feels incredible" sort of experience or are the physics also gimped? Now I am really new, have not bought that many cars, and what I have bought so far are just premiums but, just wanted to know what your feelings on them were and if I should avoid them or just buy the cars I want to buy.

Thanks guys.

Honestly, it never bothered me from the start.. probably because i just like driving more than admiring though I do enjoy admiring the premium models!! :)

Bother? Why would standard cars bother people?

I'm personally treating all the cars in the game like collectibles and gathering them all. From what I can tell so far, the physics are very palatable (read: no different) when compared to the premium vehicles.

As an aside, some of my favorite cars are standards (fully tweaked '01 Integra Type R, Spoon offerings, Honda Life Step with everything done to it, etc.). Just because they're standard doesn't mean they're second rate, at least when referencing driveability. The graphics on some (most?) are unquestionably average unfortunately.

I'd start grabbing the standards that you like, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I never drive in the cockpit view, so there's no functional difference to me anyway.

At first i only wanted to buy the premiums, because even 200 of them is plenty and i thought it would be enough to make me happy. I only wanted to buy the Audi S4 from 1998 as standard, because i own an Audi A4 from 2000 myselfe, but that made me feel comfortable with the hoodview. Now the hoodview/roofcam is my favourite view and i found so many awesome cars among the standards, that it would be a shame not to drive them.

Now i own three times the amount of standard cars, then i do premiums. It makes online so much more fun, since everyone is using a deiffernt car. If people were only driving Premiums, some races would be boring, due to everyone driving the same, or similar cars.

The standard cars do not look as good as premiums, but they look good in replays, which is the only opportunity, where i actually get to see more then the hood of my car. So while moving most of them look decent, and some of them actually look really close to plemium. Some cars are really ugly though, but i came across like 3 or so, but they are still fun to drive, like the famous Hommel Berlinet, famous for being the uglyest standard car of them all. At least the rims look good :D

If you like standard cars then enjoy them because the physics are the same but they really bother me. Those models looked good in gt4 but they are very dated now, not to mention they haven't been improved by PD at all. They bring the overall graphical quality of the game down. It is sad that they went for quantity instead of quality, they could've just added the gt2 models using that logic.

Anyway I enjoy some of them but I'm surprised so many people don't mind them. Good for them I guess but this better not happen in GT6..

I only mind that some high powered race cars are hidden in the standard UCD. And there BRAND NEW to GT5. ( Audi RM Road Car R8, or RM lambo diablo for example ) so never got to drive them before this and they appear in UCD when your bank is empty at the very start.

Standards are just the same. I use the bumper cam when playing anyway, so no cockpit, or poor graphics don't bother me at all.

IMO the graphical differences aren't as great as everyone makes out, only thing that slightly bugs me is no cockpits in standards, but I don't often think 'Man I wish I could see the cockpit!!' (only in the Viper Oreca :P)

If you refuse to use the standards for whatever reason then you are a fool because there are SO many good standards, and you're missing out bigtime!

However there are some cars PD really should have given the premium treatment, like the Veyron and various racecars as well, and I don't really like the labelling of them much either because even though they drive just as well, it has some kind of psychological effect lol, maybe just me :P

I rarely use the cockpit view so that isn't a minus for me. I normally race with the Hood Cam and drift with the Chase Cam. 80% of my favourite cars are standards, I'm sure this also applies to most of you.

It doesn't ruin the overall quality of the game for me because It's all the same to me, except the fact that I cant put any front lips on the standard models or change the rims, other then that, loving the standards.

I find the standards are a mixed bag graphically. I like watching the cars in replays and, apart from lack of cockpit, some standards are right up there with the premiums, while others are truely shocking for a PS3 game and just shouldn't be there.

It doesn't affect what I buy to drive, but certainly affects what my favorite replays are.

Honestly I can only drive in cock pit view; hell i remember my first cock view, The first shift game I think it was? I said to myself I will never use it. Now every racing game I play I have to use it.

I like playing with my Hud off also, and using the car's guages to see my RPM, MpH, and listen to the engine when I need to shift.

So I let Bob drive my standard cars (cause I love so many of them), and I drive the premiums.

When I drive in First person view; I feel like I'm just some dude playing a First person shooter and I'm running really fast vs other cars.

Roof cam just seems strange, why am I standing on the roof?

chase cam, now this view I don't mind; it's what I always used before the cockpit cam. But Gt5 has the worst non dynamic chase cam IMO. the cam is static and always directly behind the car, my favorite chase cam is the need for speeds where when you get to a turn you get to see the the side of your car; it was just more dynamic and I felt the car was more alive; i could watch the suspension move as the road changes with it.

Gt5 chase cam it seems like i'm just driving a static car; i can't even tell if the wheels are turning until the replay.

So yes, premium and cockpit view are the only cars I drive. Again standard is for my bob; he get's such sweet rides :D

I realized early on that the bumper view is better than the cockpit view. Thus, no difference between S and P.

I was already a bit biased against premiums, though. The best would be for all the cars to be something in between. I think the reason why some of the standards are so ugly is because they wasted too much time on the premiums. Well, it may be good for GT6, but bad for this game.

To be honest, I couldn't care less whether a car is premium or standard. If its premium I use interior view, if standard I don't, its not a big deal IMHO. I have way more standards than premiums, simply because I like all the old race cars, which are almost exclusively standard cars. In the end, if you like the car enough and it drives well, who cares if its premium or standard?

At first I bought only Premiums, mainly because I wanted the cockpit view, but it wasn't long before I had to start using some Standards so I gave up on avoiding them. Still, if I can use a Premium instead of a Standard, I tend to go with the Premium. If my best available Premium option was notably crappier than my best Standard option, I went with the Standard, but otherwise I stuck with Premium.

As for whether or not it bothers people....

Here's the thing: If it had been Forza that had a whole heap of sub-par polygon models generally looking PSX to PS2-ish and only 20% of their cars looked current-gen, Forza would never have heard the end of the ridicule. When instead it's GT that has a bunch of last-gen cars and only a couple hundred current-gen cars, it's dismissed as perfectly fine.

Had this been a screenshot captured in FM3, every single person here would have mocked the crap out of the game. It's a GT5 shot, however, unaltered and taken directly from the game's photo mode and uploaded directly from XMB to Picasa, so it's shrugged off as no big deal.

That isn't right. Either it's a huge matter or it isn't. You guys don't get to make a huge fuss about it if it's the wrong franchise and shrug it off if it's the right one. Fair is fair.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

"PD gave us 200 amazing looking cars!"
"PD gave us 800 Pieces of ****!"

The problem is, 90% of people fall into the latter category.

Unless you drive in cockpit, it shouldn't matter. I think PD could have avoided a lot of complaints, if they avoided premiums cars all together. Keep every car standard, give every car a cockpit view, eliminate the years of work that went into those crazy-intricate interiors, and instead put it into the exteriors. Then photomode would have been much more successful, the entire game would have looked better.

I used to be obsessed with the dash view and tried to use premiums whenever possible. Now I don't care so much. Besides, there are too many interesting standards. Today I beat the PD cup in a Taurus (despite turning down the power twice, I still completely overkilled it. That car is amazing).

I also discovered that the Tiburon Turbulence doesn't respond well at all to upgrades. I expected it to have more power than my Talon (after all, it had more stock), but it ended up with a meager 283 horsepower or so, and it has ridiculous turbo lag. Learn from my mistake, and don't waste your money on that car.

I think the turning point came when I realized I actually drive better in bumper cam anyway.

With you on the replay aspect. I probably watch replays as much as I race and so far I can still enjoy the game with premiums alone. Unfortunately I have become addicted to cockpit view with HUD turned off so standards not an option at the moment. Must say though, there are some standards I just got to try esp old rally cars which make me think I might eventually be cured of cockpit addiction.

This.👍

At first it didn't bother me what cars i drove. Once i collected all the cars and quickly realised that IMHO most of the best cars were the standards. Then it started to bother me a lot.

Now, however i changed back to my first opinion which is i don't realy care. Obviously, if i had the choice to make them all premium i would but because of the driving physics you tend to forget that "hey, i'm in an ugly standard model" and just enjoy the drive.

Sometime, I really hate when I had to turn on HUD because standard cars can't display speedometers...and the game feels less realistic

They need to make the chase cam more dynamic; that way if i'm driving a standard I can go in my 2nd favorite view (first being cockpit) and enjoy it.

chase cam is to static and you don't ever even see the wheels of your car unless you spin out.
