Considering that the game runs at 60fps in full 1080p and currently runs 16 cars in a race, I think everyone asking for more than that are asking for too much.

I would like AT LEAST 20.
(The 8 cars at some tracks online is a joke)

Better 30. And for Nascar/IRL 40.

Yeah pretty much. Even 16 is pushing it a bit, I bet PD regret that promise, with weather and damage added that was probably difficult to accomplish in itself. 12 cars is more realistic for the hardware, but i won't say no to 16 if they found a way of working it right :) (Plus the fact the car models are meant to be higher poly than they were in prologue)

I seriously do want variable graphics as options now, i would do anything for full size races.

I think now 16 is just about right considering the damage and all :)

Well Prologue kind of struggled at times with 16 cars. I know the PS3 Operating system uses less memory than it did then, but i doubt that is enough for damage and dynamic weather. I don't know, i guess we will have to wait and see. I doubt we will see more than 16 though.

Personally, I feel like Graphics are over-rated as a compopnent of racing games. Sure, the cars are beautiful, but I would be happy with GT3 or GT4 graphics and huge grids. I always thought it was somewhat ridiculous that PD was attempting the to be as close to reality as possible, but they give us a bunch of 2 lap races with 5 other cars. Who would go through the trouble of prepping their car, travelling to the location, etc. for two laps around a 2 mile circuit?

If PD didn't secretly plan ahead on something like this, I'd say its too late for GT5, but I would love it if there were the lower graphics option with more cars.

I like to use grids in the 30's and 40's on RFactor, tat can make for a great race, especially if it's multi-class. I don't expect any more than 16 cars, which is perfectly fine. Really it depends on the race and if there's qualifying for it or not. A shorter race typially demands less cars because you have less time to catch up unless your starting at or near the front. So I would like to see a variation in grid sizes depending on the race in question. But I don't expect to see more than 16 at most which is a decent number.

Bigger fields=Better game. I say squeeze every last bit of power you can to get the car count up. 16 is decent, but personally 28-32 would be ideal. I realize that probably isnt possible, but it would be perfect. Small fields (6-10 cars) should only be necessary for short races.

16 is a good number for me. Not too few, not too many:) Should make endurance races a bit more exciting, especially at the longer tracks. Plus, a 16 car F1 race at Beginner Course would be fuuun:D:crazy:

it will be very unrealistic for the guy in last place to even get a pole finish.

You're not supposed to start in last, you're supposed to qualify.

Even then, just place the player mid pack.

More cars is better.

I voted for 16+, maybe in GT7 on ps4 we do get 100 cars racing at the ring, for now 16 is just fine, with standing starts the races can be very funny, imagine 16 cars at tsukuba that would be crazy, you just overtake and overtake and overtake...

I'd say on most tracks, there should be 16. Long tracks such as Nurburgring or Le Sarthe, they should be a lot more than 16 on it. That's what I'm hoping for.

Why all those people voting 16 and up? You want the game to run at 20fps?

Finally. Someone that gets it.
I thought it was obvious. Someday we'll have console games with 40 cars per race (ex: nascar), not only because the devs want it but also because the hardware will make it possible at a high framerate.

What's wrong with voting 16+? The question was "how many cars you would like to see?"

I really doubt a poll on GTPlanet is going to change things at this point in GT5's development...

Besides, the question could be interpreted as "how many you would like to see, ideally."

Really depends on the track, number of laps, how damage impacts mechanical performance, along with skill of drivers entered. For medium sized tracks and say 10 laps will fairly equal field than 16 car field would be excellent. Even with only 10 laps that is pleanty of time to have a chance to win even if they started last. Provided your laps times are not to far off or perhaps even faster than the top half of the field. I would imagine for medium skilled drivers that there will be a fair a mount of contact under braking and in some corners. Also a few likely people will have a wheel or two go off track causing the potential for spins or worse. 10 laps is enough that tire wear should start to play a factor also. So a lot of factors.... To much banging or tire rubbing and hopefully mechanical / tire wear really starts to play a factor. Hopefully also GT5 will be able determine when a person is driving the car to hard for to long. You should not be able to run say 5 or more record laps in a row without increased tire wear and perhaps engine damage. Agree that qualifyimg should be an option, along with random positions, or perhaps performance points helping to set the grid positions. So many things I want for GT5. I would like the option to have the person that creates the race to choose 16 cars. Then as a player that enters the race chooses their ride, 1st come 1st pick etc.. Or as one of the race restrictions limit the car value

Ahh.. GT7 is (calculate-calculate) 10 Years away...

So the PS will be number 10... PS10

It's probably going to be the PS4 in 2020. Sony plan on making the PS3 last for a good while. They've stretched out the life of some consoles in certain markets. The PS1 was sold until 2006. The PS2 continues to be sold. I got one for Xmas back in 2008, as my current PS2 broke and I wanted to play GTA San Andreas and GT4 so bad.

there were 230 cars started the ADAC 24h Rennen Nürburgring in 2008.

If this was a wishlist I would vote for 250 cars on the Nürburgring :)

Drawing ~ 100 cars on screen would mean a huge decrease in graphics. So this is no choice for any GT.

This won't be a lot different from today's situation. Would you prefer GT1 with 300 cars on screen for your PS3 or GT5P with 16 ?

Thats why to get 16+ They should give us the option to reduce the graphics like in PC games.

I am beginning to suspect they already dumbed down the graphics from what they could have achieved just to get 16 cars on the track. But to keep things consistent and simple, time trials use the exact same graphics engine, when it would have been possible to up the graphics, increase Anti-aliasing etc.

Its not going to happen, but it is possible to do.

This is too long of a stretch, though if they release the PS4 in 2020, Microsoft and Nintendo will be very happy.

PlayStation release dates (Japan):

PS - (late) 1994
PS2 - (early) 2000
PS3 - (late) 2006

Not that this denotes a definite pattern, but I highly doubt that the PS4 will release 14 years after the PS3 (about 2.33x the previous stretches).

Because voting between 12 and 16 makes it seem that I'm fine with a grid of 15. But I'm not, I don't want the game to take a step forward. So it's 16 or more for me.

You're right, but this IS a wishlist, I'm a systems programmer and I know that the PS3 has roughly no more memory available to be used ( despite sony's attempt to free a little bit more from the OS ), and the cell processor it's powerful but cannot do "miracles", so any comments about worse graphics, or low framerate are simply obvious and unnecessary, they just sound dumb as two plus two equals four.

Just my opinion, I'm not pointing at anyone, sincerely.
