The aim is simple...find the most expensive/unique/exotic car on the RAC/DVLA Vehicle Registration Number Check.

Some cars have minimal data, for example, a TVR Speed 12 (W112 BHG) is only identified as a TVR with no model name. Others, however, have much more data, such as a Ford RS200 (E900 BAP), which is identified as a Ford RS200 4WD 2 Door Saloon.

You can use whatever you like, memory, magazines, videos, the Internet etc. Only cars registered in the UK are available.

I looked it up, too. it's currently owned by a music celebrity and is a copy of the car driven by Harrison Ford (?) in the movie american grafitti.

we have several old auction books here with pics from sales by British Auction houses. the number plates are clearly visible, but I got no hits on any of the plates, so they must not be currently on-road

i also looked up, for the hey of it, my OWN number plates to see if there was a vehicle registered in the UK that carried the same. again, nothing.

PS: is there an explination for the british coding system used on the plates anywhere? there was a thread, earlier, on it.

Really very old indeed system (up to 1932)
1-2 letters, 1-4 numbers

Really old system (1932 up to 1963)
Three letters, 1-3 numbers

VERY old system (1963 to 1982)
3 Letters, 1-3 numbers, suffix letter

Suffix letter identified vehicle age - A was 1963, B was 1964, C was 1965 and so on.

Old system (1984-2001)
Prefix letter, 1-3 numbers, 3 letters

Prefix letter identified vehicle age - A was 1984, B was 1985, C was 1986 and so on.

Current system (2001-)
Two regional letters, two age-related numbers, three letters

The first two letters identified the office the vehicle was registered at and the numbers directly relate to the year (02 = First half of 2002, 52 = Second half of 2002).
