Not really fair, people can still work towards getting an S DR even if they start out at say a B level. DR-S isn't exactly Formula 1, so it's fair that if you work hard at getting faster and better at the game you could achieve an S rank.

Similarly I know for a fact that if I spent more time I'd be Masters at Starcraft 2, I've bean a number of Masters players and a couple of Grand Master players in my time, but I simply don't have the time to invest in getting higher than I am at the moment. But it doesn't mean that I'll never be at that level... if that makes sense

I don't know how it works on Starcraft, so can't comment on that, but the way the ratings work as far as I know is your position amongst ALL of the GT Sport players determines your DR rating.

As such it isn't a case of playing the game for longer to 'rank up'. You can't just slowly gain XP and eventually hit DR:S, that's not how it works. To be DR:S you need to be in the top 10% of players for speed (I chose 10% as an arbitrary number, I don't know what percentage it requires). For some that just simply isn't attainable - which is fine - but you can only get there by getting better at a game, rather than continuing at the same skill level, but ploughing hours and hours in to levelling up.

GTs have always been about the grind, but this isn't that.

You could argue that, the more you play, the better you will get because of practice, but people's abilities will plateau and some will just never be good enough for DR:S. I'm in that category, so I'm not saying in a 'Get over it' kind of way, more in an acceptance kind of way - there is nothing wrong with being DR:D, as long as you are clean and competitive within the groups you are placed. Note that competitive doesn't mean smashing everyone every time... lol

DR A
SR S

86 Races
46 Poles
33 wins
45 fastest laps

Most of the time I finish in the top 5, I'm also 3/4 through DR A and I usually perform better in one makes and do worse in Gr4 or Gr3 events (I try to even out my DR by doing a bit of both so I don't get matched with the fastest drivers all the time ). I could probably make it to S if I stuck to only one makes but I'm happy where I am, no point in matching with higher ranks if you're 1 to 2 seconds off their pace; ruins the fun really.

How do I find what info?

I know how many races/poles etc I’ve finished from the progress screen. I remember the 2 races I didn’t finish well in because they are exceptions!

Ah sorry, I was just curious because I was looking at my profile (on the website) and couldn't see what I was missing haha

Yeah what I mean is, the more you play the better you'll become and I don't think that most people would plateau before they hit S.
DR works the same as League placement/ranking in Starcraft 2. I'm horrible at Starcraft 2, but I can beat players in the top 2% of my region and have also beaten players in the top 0.2% of the world.

I have raced with DR S drivers in league races and consider myself pretty terrible at GT in general. If I was able to race and be competitive with them in a league I don't see why most people couldn't just naturally get better at the game and get an S DR :p ...I guess I don't want to make sweeping comments about peoples skill but I think it's fair for most people to want to aim for the best and hope to see results if they work hard at it :)

I'm rated B and often see my rating go up to A briefly and then back down again. That's a fact of how fast I am. Until I improve my ability by a large amount then I won't progress to DR:S. But I don't really want to be a DR:S, as I'll get paired with people much faster than me and the experience will suffer.

People who see the DR as a progression that they HAVE to achieve S on are not playing the game properly IMO.

Maybe there are drastically more people playing in Europe, but in the Americas region there aren't enough people to fill a lobby full of DR/A and SR/S drivers. The game weighs your SR a lot more when matchmaking so I've driven against DR/D drivers when I'm DR/A because we're both SR/S.

For example, in my manufacturer cup last night, there was one DR/S driver, 8 or so DR/A drivers and the rest were DR/B.

To your second point, there is no proper way to play the game, some of us are just drastically more competitive than others.
Personally, I'm always pushing to get to a higher rank, I've competed my whole life and it will never stop. I used to play Starcraft 2, tried for months to get into grandmaster (never did), I played Dota 2 - and I did get my MMR over 6k (the 0.01% of players), part of my enjoyment about playing multiplayer games is being among the very best.

I want to see my name on the top 10 leaderboard consistently, I want to be DR/S one day, part of my enjoyment of the game is the chase to getting to DR/S. No I'm not going to game the system - but I am going to try my hardest to get there, does that mean I'm playing the game wrong? No, it means I'm playing the game in the way that appeals to me.

DR:A SR:S

Races: 115
Poles: 19
Fastest Laps:20
Wins:18

I might get up to DR:S, but I tend to fluctuate in the middle of A. I can put down occasional hero laps, which puts me in with the fastest people, but I get nervous in traffic and make too many mistakes. Most of the time I give up my position to avoid the stress. Times when I try to push, I make worse mistakes and have caused some crashes unintentionally, like from missing my braking points. If any of you have raced with me when I'm a bit shakier than normal, I'm sorry. Sometimes I just plain suck.

That's fair enough mate, but the difference is that you see it as a personal improvement task rather than a 'WHY CAN'T I DO IT?!' kind of task - which is what I mean when I say that people aren't playing it properly :)

Tend to qualify quite low down and then work my way up through the race so tend to end. Plus I prefer to race unusual cars and then that gives me an excuse for being slower than the Megane drivers :)

DR:A
SR:S

Roughly 186 races
4 Poles
8 Fastest lap
6 Wins

At the start, it was about learning to race online since I'd never done that before and about improving my SR. Being among the faster (notice I did not say fastest :p) drivers and being competitive is now my goal for the game. As such I've changed my approach to where I only race on tracks that I know I'm comfortable on, consistent, competitive and can actually race for top positions. Just by doing that, my DR went from B to A in just one weekend...at the time, progress bar was just shy of 50% B rating. With that said, I'm not giving up on the other tracks. I'm just making it a point to practice on them until I get to the point where I'm competitive enough to race.

DR. A (8358km)
SR. S

How do I see total # of races, I can just check achievements and it's capped out at 100 for me.
100 Races
PP 20 (again capped, can't see any higher)
FL 34
Wins 20 (again capped, can't see any higher)

I won a lot at DR. B, but since becoming DR. A I only won 1 race and it was a FIA lobby with only 3 DR. A drivers.

You need to check it ingame. The website doesn't show the total number after you reach the 3rd achievement level. :/

DR B (low level since update) before update fluctuated between most of the time being a top D with spurts in the mid level C ranks.
SR S
Races 198
PP 2
FL 3
W 3

Quite a few top 5's and loads of top 10's with starting positions usually between 8th -14th and most races generally have had DR A, B, C and D rated drivers.
