Don't know if anybody would be interested in this, but I might as well ask!!! đź’ˇ
I'm going to the European GP at the new Nurburgring this summer and planning to hang around afterwards for a week so that I can drive the old 'ring and see how close the game is to it. I've driven it before, but I had an idea to test the accuracy of the game:
Take the car you drive in real life (eg Ford Ka, Volkswagen Golf etc).
Drive it as standard round the ring in the game. Log your best lap time and your average time over three laps.
Then we can all meet up and do the same with our actual cars and see what the results are!!
The aim is NOT to set lap records or race each other, but to see how accurate the cars handle in the game as to real life, to see just how much harder is it when you've got the g-forces to throw you about and to have some fun!!!
We should all know the circuit layout well enough to make it interesting!!
As a guide, a friend of mine lapped his TVR Griffith 500 in real life in 9mins12secs four years ago and managed 8mins35secs on the game.
I will e doing this anyway in my Ka ( can't afford to take my mint SD1 3500 V8, plus it's not in the game!!), so let me know if anybody's up for the idea!!

You need to listen to this, lap times at the 'ring are very seriously advised against.

Please remember that while the 'ring may officially be derestricted, it is still a public road and still subject to German traffic law. They will not hesitate to arrest or press charges if they believe anything you do endangered other users.

Also any damage you cause at the 'ring should you have an accident, such as taking out the armco or fluid on the track, they will charge you for. Also be aware that a lot of recovery services and insurance companies will now not cover you if you have an accident on the 'ring.

Having been a few times, I can say that lap times will be the least of your worries, and trying to match a time set in a game (and I don't care if its GT4, PGR2, Enthusia or Forza) in the real world is in my opinion a bloody silly thing to do. The 'ring is not like a track day with nice wide run-off areas and gravel traps, this place kills people. I mean most track days in the UK do not allow you to record lap times, for safety reasons, why should the 'ring be any different.

By all means go and have a great time, which can be done without trying to beat a time set in a virtual environment.

Certain elements within the media and government in Germany would love to have a reason to set speed limits on all the Autobahns and close the 'ring to the public (or just close it), please don't help give them a reason.

P.S. you should also know that the taking of any still or video images from in-car is now strictly forbiden on the 'ring (trackside stuff is find) and again the penalties are high (up to and including a full ban).

And besides, the start finish point in reality is halfway down the long straight, and you never actually do a full lap because you get 'coned' off the track, with a strict low speed limit a good 200-300 meters before the point that you first joined the track. In GT4 you start and finish about a mile up the road from there.

Forgot about that, stops people killing themselves at the end of the straight.

Ta! - i've been meaning to replace my old one with a newer picture of me in action, but i always forget to bring the photos in to work to scan, so i googled and found this in the meantime.
 
I wonder if they would let me take the Motor Cairrage around the ring. I'm sure I wouldn't kill myself in it. Unless perhaps if someone slammed into the side of me as I was tacking my way up one of the hills.

I'm sure the real motor carriage would break down and run out of fuel many times over before the lap was done! :sly:

In real life you could get out and push though!! That would easily beat thegreatms's record!
