Welcome to Week 3 of the NRS!

*EDIT* PLEASE SEE POST NO4 FOR THIS WEEKS WINNING CAR!

Firstly i would like to say a big thanks to those taking part 👍 It wouldnt happen without you and the more who vote and get involved the better, we are making good progress with the tuning and i think this will be a valuable tool for any GT enthusiast by the end of the series!

Following some excellent racing so far we move onto the cars within the 201-250BHP power bracket, there is a fairly equal split here of 4WD and FF for consideration along with some FR and a couple of MR, i hope you all find somthing you like in this weeks choices, again they have been picked for their ability so vote for your 3 favourites 👍

Remember racing starts sunday this is just the voting stage of week 3, feel free to PM me your votes for week 3 along with your times for week 2 if its easier for you 👍

Onto the cars......

nrsweek3golf8dz.jpg

The Volkswagon Golf R32 '03 - 163BHP/TON - 4WD

nrsweek3silvia4ml.jpg

The Nissan Silvia Spec R Aero '99 - 189BHP/TON - FR

nrsweek3integra9th.jpg

The Honda Integra Type R (DC5) '03 - 189BHP/TON - FF

nrsweek3merc5jj.jpg

The Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5 16v Evo '91 - 173BHP/TON - FR

nrsweek3focus0ly.jpg

The Ford Focus RS '02 - 206BHP/TON - FF

I have deliberatly not made comments on the cars this week as i felt it had the potential to influence people who had no intention of testing the cars before voting, the power to weight ratio is there for additional info only and should in no way be used to vote with and it is also NOT indicative of lap times.(Remember there will be some change to power and parts when the winning car is announced on sunday)

Again no discussing or influencing the voting on here, PM me your favourite 3 cars by 9PM GMT on sunday (30th) 👍

Happy testing everyone :)

Dave

Voted

Voted! Interesting car line-up 👍

The results for car voting week 3 are in!!

In 3rd place with 14 points is the VW Golf R32

In 2nd place with 15 points is the Nissan Silvia spec R

But in 1st place with 22 points is the Mercedes Benz 190E 2.5 16v EVO

nrsweek3merc5jj.jpg

(Car can be purchased new from Mercedes classic cars section)

Sticking with the same theme we are going to continue with the Sports suspension package this time on a slightly heavier and larger saloon, tune away to get the best time you can, specific set up and Rules are below as usual.

PARTS TO BE FITTED:

Sports suspension
Carbon propellor shaft
sports flywheel
Large single clutch
Oil change
racing chip
engine balance
port and polish
stage 2 weight reduction
N3 Tyres

CAR SHOULD BE:

273BHP in your tuning screens
1179KGS
(231.55BHP/TON)

RULES:

No wall or barrier touching
Rumbles and concrete are part of track
No cheating of any kind
No other parts to be fitted other than stated above
Each driver is allowed 1 error in their final submitted lap, For example being slightly on the grass with your 3rd and 4th wheels would be ok, attempting a short cut at the karussell would not! Wall touches are still NOT allowed, i have relaxed the rules regarding the "1 off" occasion as i understand how frustrating it can be to put together a clean lap. Please discuss with me if this is not clear in any way. Please submit your best lap times to me by PM no later than 9PM GMT 06/10/2005.

No discussing final lap times, again please use T2,T4,T7 and T10 👍

Happy racing everyone

cheers

Dave

heh, i'm surprised the 190 didn't win by an even larger margin.
as fast as the focus is, (and my bias toward the car)... when i tried all the FF cars on N3's... those 3 were just a wrestling match to keep on the road.
on to the fun 👍

Thanks for at least including the Focus on the short list too bad we don't get to drive it...I suppose we should be driving some German cars on the 'Ring anyway.

Voted , but was looking for a bit of Frontwheel drive action this week ahh well
that's living in a democracy for ya. I'm sure the Merc will be fun though good luck
everyone 👍.

As for the relaxing of the OLR rules, allowing one mistake, I have to say i have
mixed emotions about it. The crappy driver in me says yea, but I know deep down
I will not be happy saving a "dirty" lap and then submitting it as the result for the week.
Yes the Ring is frustrating so many places to stuff up, but when I've gotten that clean
quick lap (for me) I feel like I have achieved something. Just my thoughts on the matter,
I will be interested to hear others comment about this.

Steve

I dont mind the rule, I think its a good rule for the people who find it difficuilt to lap the ring. Me however wont be submitting a time with more than 2 wheels off, If i was to do that its just me taking unfair advantage of the rules imho.

100% clean laps for me 👍

"Carbon propellor shaft" hahah... i love the differences in terminology from nation to nation.
makes it sound like i should be going parts shopping with Manfred von Richtofen

CAR SHOULD BE:

273BHP in your tuning screens
1179KGS
(231.55BHP/TON)

So we'll be above the 200-250 BHP range set for this week. Cool :p

Hello all, few points to respond to here before i continue...

Regarding the "1 off" rule, if the general feeling is against it then i can remove it, my idea was that when you do a lap that has such a close call its a tragedy to have to scrap it then the rule can be used, trying to relap the ring and get a clean lap after a mistake can be very hard and i feel there may be more entries if folk have a small comfort blanket.....if you are submitting clean only like Fryz then all the better, but im not going to get anywhere with this series by demanding replays and clean laps, as the series grows (i hope) it must naturally change in some ways, my original idea was good i feel but never perfect!!
I myself would not use this rule if i had a full on exursion into the grass, but maybe a wheel just over the white line it might come in handy.

Regarding the winning car im well pleased the Merc won, the Focus was there on merit like them all but it does have unreal torque steer in 2nd gear, it only started to feel "safe" on S tyres whereas the Merc is good on N3s.....the best choice won i think 👍

Regarding us being over the power bracket this week....(273BHP)
Each week the cars are evaluated in standard form and as such are in groups of various power brackets, when the winning car is announced i need to decide the final detail tuning quite quickly, i have a structure of suspension parts etc already set up but power has to be decided based on the cars weight and standard power. You will notice the Merc is over a ton in weight and in order to keep the power to weight ratio moving up each week in clear step-ups its sometimes going to be necessary to go "over" the weeks power figures, they are not set in stone more a guideline really and the power to weight of 231.55 is a good step up from the MR2 for week 2. 👍

Anyway i had my first 2 laps tonight all i had time for again 5am starts all this week for me 👎 I found the Mercedes great fun, on completley stock suspension settings ie no changes to dampers etc its quite "loose" but displays the wonderfull push understeer on corner entry, neutrality mid corner and power oversteer to your hearts content on corner exit, just fabulous i think and as i like to feel the car moving a bit it suits me, im going to tune carefully this week though as i think its got real potential. T times not so good yet, not that this car is slow but for me it highlights just how quick that MR2 was from last week....

T2 1'29.814
T4 3'00.XXX
T7 5'12.349
T10 7'12.889

Brilliant fun and i hope you all enjoy :)

Give me some more feedback on the "1 off" rule, the more you guys and girls put in the more i can tailor this to you all 👍

cheers

Dave

Nothing as far as T3 for me tonight, so I'll try again tomorrow.

Hi Villainpl, with the Nurburgring being such a long course you can find yourself down by a lot of time, so dont despair...i find that almost always TCS and ASM slow you down, especially with the lower power cars, the worst you may get with this car with aids turned off is power oversteer coming out of corners so you have to be carefull sometimes getting back on the power....

Check your T2 T4 and T7 times when people start putting theirs in and find out which section you are slower in, it may be that 1 section is crippling your time perhaps, if its all over i would suggest you get a replay device and download some of the replays being posted to see where you can improve, the whole idea of the series is that you do improve though so good luck!!

P.s i will check my times when iget home to make sure my time is correct also!

cheers

Dave

Got my first clean lap after about 150 km of attempting.

T2: 1'29.416
T4: 3'00.320
T7: 5'13.100
T10: 7'13.797

Still searching for the perfect setup though... Got the front ride heigt and dampers higher than the rear to counteract the oversteer. It's getting better, but could use some improvement still. Any tuning wizards out there? :p

Some new splits for me, happened on my first lap too!

T2 1'29.723
T4 2'59.702
T7 5'11.178
T10 7'10.474

Still no adjustment to settings..

Onwards.....

regards

Dave

So far, after getting some seat time AFTER running the WRS event on this same track, I was able to manage a:

T2: 1'31:193
T4: 3'02:180
T10: 7'17:320

(Wrote down wrong sector time <T8 VS T7> and am too lazy right now to turn the PS2 back on and go back through the replay to get it...then again, seeing the times posted so far, no one's missing any thing special! LOL!)

This is going to a real nightmare for those who are also running in the WRS...as they'll be doing double-duty on the same track...just in different cars!

Splits so far:

T2: 1'28.701
T4: 2'58.562
T7: 5'11.892
T10: 7'15.244

So far so good, still lots of time to be had. 👍

Later 👍

2.5 hours of trying and a lot of cursing finally gave me another clean lap. Only 0.9 seconds better than my previous time though :indiff: So, it kinda feels like I'm already on the bottom of the barrel for this one. Hope I can prove myself wrong...

Settings:
86/82
8/4
1.5/0.5
Aids 0-0-0

They feel good, but it could be better... just need to find that perfect setup. Hope that I can see some of the settings you guys use soon...

Board updated

Im finding that the only setting i changed is to soften the front damper by 1 click, removes some of the understeer and gives me the neutrality i like......been doing a few laps this afternoon, nothing clean but 2 seconds quicker is within reach at this point i think!

Hiya Dave, I'm sorry I never submitted last week but with the kids off school and the lan party I had a lot on my plate and I only had a dirty 8'15 but with no time to put in the extra effort required.

I did manage to just run 3 clean laps for this week by driving very carefully in the corners and keeping the throttle easy on some of the turns...

my sectors are

1'29.878
3'00.244
5'14.515
7'15.987

Even is I don't get time to run some more laps this week at least I got a clean save to fall back on 👍

Good luck everyone :)

Finally put a clean lap together, was brown trousers time on a few corners but
managed to hang on and complete it  .

T2 - 1.30.9
T4 - 3.03.1
T7 - 5.19.4
T10 - 7.23.2

Again way off the pace but I'm having fun, I think :dopey:.

Understeer??

I'm tampering with the suspension to get rid of the oversteer :p

Maybe I should have another go with the stock settings :)

Anyway, I'm glad to see some other times posted. I updated the board and as you can see the times this week are really pretty close together 👍

Small_Fryz rolls out of the garage. Pretty tired, but will run a few laps to get a time 👍.

Will be back with some edits :D

1hr later

saw a T10 of 7'05.xxx but was dirty.

Will try again tommorow

Had another session. First I tried to lower the downforce (can be changed on this car!!), but that seemed a big mistake :D

Compromised my settings a bit and came up with the following:
86/84
8/6
1.5/0.3
Aids 0/0/0

Took those out on the track and to my supprise, I liked them right from the go. So much so, that I think that I'll stick to those :)
Started pushing it, and got a clean lap on the 3rd try (which is very good for me) and shaved about 1.75 sec's of my total time :D A lot of that time was saved in the last third of the track

T2: 1'29.183 (was 1'29.186)
T4: 2'59.036 (was 2'59.149)
T7: 5'10.863 (was 5'12.719)
T10: 7'11.276 (was 7'13.038)

Lookout, Dave, I'm-a-coming :p

Had two clean laps last night - YAY! 👍 - and have:
T10: 7'17.608

I'll be running more tonight and tomorrow.

Like Steve, I have mixed feelings but I think I'd prefer to require a completely clean lap.

Personally, I have no issues submitting a "dirty" lap as long as the off-track event wasn't beneficial to the final time. The bottom line is that any time off track or touching a wall should be a penalty.

But even more to the core of the whole purpose of this particular GT series, I think the goal should be 100% clean laps.
___________

I was bummed I didn't get my time in for Round 2. I had a time but my internets were being flaky all weekend and I couldn't submit. I thought about asking my neighbor if I could use their computer but that would've seemed insane. :)

Cheers for the feedback on this 👍

Im ok with removing it altogether or a points penalty could be introduced for a lap submitted with "1 off" maybe? Like i said the more people to let me know the better i can decide 👍

No worries about your time for last week, good to have you here again Soyfu :)

cheers
