300 pounds is a lot of weight if you're going to use it to race. But if you were racing, why would you buy a Thunderbird in the first place?

Not true - in 1995, the government federally-mandated twin airbags in all vehicles, however GM chose not to install twin airbags in the Chevrolet Blazer, Oldsmobile Bravada, and GMC Jimmy until 1998. Rather than stop the sale of those vehicles, the government just fined GM every year until they were finally in compliance. Incase it hasn't already been mentioned, not all Lancer Evolutions come with that ridiculous sized wing on them. One of my dad's co-workers has a nice blue Evolution with a Lancer OZ Rally-looking wing on it. Not what I really think of when I think of the car, but it looks nice.

It's also not horrid to see out the back of a Corvette. It's not normal, and certainly smaller, but your not going miss another car when you look behind it. I also doubt that the Evos/STi's wing would rob you of too much sight to make driving unsafe.

As far as the whole Thunderbird/Evolution thing goes... Like Klos and 1mic said, it's a horrid comparison. You don't pick up a Car and Driver for the latest comparison of the new Nissan Titan to Chevrolet's Camaro SS, or Toyota's Prius to the Honda Pilot? Sure this isn't as weird a comparison as those examples, but you most likely wouldn't find them side by side in a street comparison. So what do you guys say we just drop it all before the padlock finds it's way here? Eh? C'mon! Look at the banana and be calmed.

Yeah, no point comparing the Thunderbird and the RX-7.

I can name ten.

1. From 1993 to 1995, the RX-7 had standard 4-wheel ABS disc brakes. Ford's big 1997 innovation was making 4-wheel disc brakes standard; ABS was never made standard.
2. Mazda's 255bhp rotary engine had more power than any of the four engines Ford used in the Thunderbird from 1989 to 1997 (140bhp 3.8L V6, 210bhp 3.8L V6s, 203bhp 4.6L V8, 200bhp 5.0L V8).
3. 1993 RX-7s had a standard driver airbag; Ford didn't put any airbag in the Thunderbird until federally mandated to do so.
4. The 89-97 Thunderbird underwent seven NHTSA recalls to the RX-7's four.
5. The RX-7 was lighter than the Thundebird by 710lbs.
6. The RX-7 had 1.9 more cubic feet of cargo space (17.0 to 15.1).
7. The RX-7's fuel tank was two gallons larger (20gal to 18gal).
8. The RX-7 had more front leg room (44.1" to 42.5").
9. A limited-slip differential was standard in the RX-7 and never available in the Thunderbird. Traction control was optional in the Thunderbird, but not until 1994.
10. Power steering, standard on the RX-7, became an option on the Thunderbird in 1995 (after being previously standard).

I'm suprised about those two figures, moreso on the cargo room. The RX-7 such a small car; a Thunderbird would surely have more space it seems.

People assume that little sports cars are cramped and uncomfortable inside, but that's not true at all in my experience. My little MR2 has plenty of room inside, one of my 6'5" friends fit in just fine. As you may have noticed, plenty of big fat guys fit in Miatas just fine

The Thunderbird probably is more comfortable for the rear passengers than the RX-7 is
