Hey guys, need to get some of this excitement into words. I've been waiting for this more than 20 years.

GT3 was a top 3 game for me, pure bliss. It taught me so much about racing and going fast, both in gaming and real life. So much so I totally missed out on GT4 because nothing was going to measure up to GT3 no matter how good it was.

Then GT5 (day 1 purchase) kicked me in the balls so hard I didn't even bother with GT6, just kinda gave up on racing games and gaming in general for a long time. I guess I was still attached to GT3.

GT7 had been on my radar since it was announced, but I couldn't bring myself to buy it, not with all the bad press it got. If anything I was going to wait for them to fix exactly what they've fixed over the past three years, so I'm happy as a clam for waiting.

A few weeks ago I got the bug to play some Gran Turismo, and very nearly bought a used PS3 so i could try GT6, mostly because I couldn't get away from all the Youtube videos talking trash about GT7, as I am weak minded and often let others influence my opinion on things like this, haha.

Anyway, I already had a PS5 pro, and a killer OLED so I just said "screw it" and bought GT7 when it went on sale. My life has been a blur ever since. In fact, I'm quite irritated with youtubers for spewing nonsense about this game when it reality, GT7 is 95% as good as it gets and only 5% as bad as they say. But I guess that's my fault for listening to shills whine about a game I hadn't even played.

As soon as I felt my NSX's tires let go of that Northern Isle asphalt and fight to re-gain traction I was hooked. What a driving experience, bravo PD. Not to mention the ridiculous amount of racetracks and content overload, this is so goddamn exciting. AND, I'm still waiting for my Logitech DD to arrive as well as hooking up a sound system.

Only problem I have now it preventing myself from spending real money. I'm so anxious to get the cars I want and it sucks how they disappear for months at a time. I knew from the start I had to have the 787B, but I'd forgotten about all the others I'm going to want. The F40, F50, Shelby Cobra, pretty much every GR3 car, and just when I think I've capped my list, they dropped the Castrol NSX! The car I spent so much time driving in GT3. Worst of all, is I have to have the 250GTO because my grandpa actually had one in real life (he sold it for $8,000, facepalm) and I'd like to think driving it would make me feel close to him again since he passed away many many years ago.

I just had to share this with some fellow enthusiasts, I can only tell by dad so many times about how great it is. Who BTW, used to race me split-screen side by side with our old Driving Force Pro wheels, and I don't think I've ever had more fun with him. Bring on the dopamine, I've waiting a long time for this. It's cool how you celebrate GT 7. You're very similar to me in that respect. I sold my consoles after GT 4 and didn't return until 2023, first with PS 2 and GT 3 and GT 4, and then PS 3 with GT 5 and 6. Along the way, I searched for videos of GT 7 on YouTube and was hooked just by the graphics alone. So I switched to PS 5 and GT 7 in the summer. I'm now on PS 5 Pro, VR, and in the next few days I'll be switching from Trustmaster T300 RS to Logitech RS 50. I love GT 7, no matter what anyone else says. I've now driven 2,300 hours and about 215,000 km on my main account, and there's plenty more to come.

It's a great game, executed with their own particular brand of panache. There are some baffling game design decisions, but they can't get in the way of the controller-to-brain interface providing that lovely dopamine.

Hopefully they contiune to develop it for another few years and give us all a chance to squeeze all of the juice out of the lemon.

It's a great car game. The economy that's shlepped on top of everything is needlessly frustrating for sure. Do NOT give in to the urge to spend real money on mtx credits! Just don't! It's a huge rip off. Start using the Sardegna grind race. Make it your daily mantra! lol. Grind and grind again. You can have all the cars in a year - most of your faves in a few months. Of course that's on top of gaining whatever meagre credits the game will pay you for doing game stuff that you enjoy. The weekly online Time Trial events (which you have access to after finishing a certain number of menus) can pay 1 to 2 million credits per week fairly easily. Oh, and if you get invites do what you can to buy those cars. THey may not come around again for a long time.

Obviously you don't HAVE to have all the cars, but being "free" of the manufactured FOMO makes for a much more generally enjoyable experience.
 
Pick up the Honda Beat in used cars, its available right now. When you are sick of farming credits at end game you can run Daytona AFK (check youtube) and get all the credits you want to buy all the cars you want very easily. Don't spend real money.

First GT7 is a great flawed game like so many other games. Also you don't have to spend any real money. Do LeMans 700 pp, Sardegna, Tokyo 600 and Spa 1hr to get money

This is about the perfect summary of Gran Turismo 7. And I'm happy that @Auron_1 got away from the echo chamber is created if one is looking only for negative feedback and reinforcement. Things do not need to be perfect or satisfy the expectations of a particular individual/mentality to be enjoyed.
 
Don't buy microtransactions. There's plenty of ways to very quickly earn credits in GT7. The custom race feature can be used to earn credits passively too.
 
As someone also new to the game, I think it deserved MORE criticism in regards to the ai, there's no racing, just lapping and catching and passing the other cars. That's a huge flaw for me. Excuse the pun, but it seems to get a pass because It's Gran Turismo and it's always been like that. The most excitement comes from trying to buy your dream cars.

That side of things has received criticism. A lot of it. Ever since GT5 in 2010 when the AI became pushovers. GT7's hopeless career structure and in-game economy stole the limelight a bit but the AI was still pretty high on the list.
 
Has anyone come up with a list of cars to complete the game? I'd like to sell a few to unclutter my garage but I know that can be a bad idea if you sell the wrong car.

You mean to trigger the closing credits (technically "completing the game")? Just follow the regular menu books (39), not the extra menus.

There's not really such a thing - but it depends what you mean by "complete the game".

To finish Cafe Menu Book 39 and access the ending movie, you only really need the car you use for Book 39. Everything else is superfluous at that point. But also you can't sell cars until you reach that point.

If you want to complete all the menus, you'll need one eligible car for each Menu Book - and again you can sell it afterwards so the same thing applies as above.

To complete all the collection tasks, you fairly obviously need the three cars in each task. Again, once done with a book, you don't need the cars any more (though some appear in two different books, and you'll need to currently own the car in order to complete both books).

If you want to complete the Collection Book, you need to have owned every car in the game.

And don't forget that each update may increase the number of Extra Menu Books, Bonus Menu Books, and obviously the car list.

If it helps, I try to assess the PP situation to catch the last car near the end of the race, that way I'm not just driving around waiting for the race to end. Then use the slow cars to practice adjusting my lines and get a clean race bonus because of it.

IMO GT is about simulating the act of "driving" first and then comes the representation of the cars themselves (models, paints and textures, parts, sounds, etc.) and a narrative attached to them and the collection thereof, and then the tracks and environments and lastly comes the racing, whether online or single player. This is why "chase the rabbit" still exists and the game doesn't simulate any kind of real racing conditions/regulations (and apart from the F1 or ACC licensed games, the majority of other driving games also don't do that).

The criticism has been way overblown. Having said that, GT7 has developed considerably since launch and some aspects are still baffling. But I thoroughly enjoy the game.
Game is amazing but the delay in new tracks, games micro transactions, and real world cost of cars still deserves much criticism .

Still rate this as the best psvr2 game since it launched

Were you disappointed by the resolution of VR in GT7?

Never sell a car unless you have two. Extra café menus require you to have the cars in your garage, not in your collection only (you can sell a car, it will not be in your garage but will still be marked as collected)
 
I would say don't bother selling cars full stop, unless you won a very valuable duplicate and want some quick credits. It's just not good economy if you've paid for the car already.

You can potentially make more (and have more fun) from composing grids using your "extra" cars using Custom Race mode.

Ever since I've acquired all the cars I want, I just buy dupes willy-nilly from the UCD and occasionally the LCD. Eventually I'll start making some Custom Races with them.
 
As a player that constantly culls my garage, I’d recommend what others are saying and keep your cars as you may need certain expensive cars for Weekly Challenge One Make races. However, for Sport Mode Time Trials you have the choice to rent a car.

Players also get offered, during special events, a chance to win special gift cars and gift cars with liveries. The GT community are good at making replica liveries of those cars, but it’s up to you how authentic you want your collection.

I play how I play moment to moment. I prefer to not have clutter in my garage since this game doesn’t have the old Stockyard option.

Anyway, more power to you for enjoying GT7. Stay up!

GT7 got great reviews... from reviewers. Dunno about you but to me the majority of them never give enough time to a game/franchise for their opinion to be worth much. The reviews at the time of release didn't have much useful information because the game wasn't finished. Not by a long shot. They also mostly ignored dumb AI, always online, iffy launch physics, shoddy career design, Hagerty prices, and the microtransactions weren't active yet.

Consumer reviews meanwhile... GT7 still sits at a 2.6/10 on Metacritic. Granted the reason for that was a long time ago, but it still tells you something meaningful about the direction the game took.
