GT has always been synonymous with its catchphrase “the real driving simulator". This in no way defines the game purely as an on-road track racing simulator, it merely stipulates that it is the superior (PS2) driving game. Therefore any inclusion of more extreme off-road driving would IMO be completely justified.
On the topic of off-roading some members have mentioned buying games already made specifically for this purpose but these games lack the tuning capabilities that GT offers as well as GT's physics. PD has had a substantial amount of time now to fine tune (to an extent) their physics engine and they are very much centered around tarmac racing. With an inclusion of off-road racing these physics would no doubt need to be able to cope with a large number of different factors and surfaces, i.e. Mud, sand, rocks which all have the potential to move around while pressure is displaced on them, if such a mode was included I would be most happy to use it and would no doubt enjoy it fully, as long as the physics engine could cope with these harsher surfaces in a acceptable manner.
Some members have expressed that they would like free-roam capabilities, I see no problem with this, especially with the success of GT4's photo mode, which so many of our members enjoy! I see both sides of the argument though, and I would suggest that in any case if such a mode were included, that it should be kept to a minimal size for "cruising". Although to counter my last statement in some case we may see a bigger expansion of tracks due to knew blu-ray technologies.
I would even be happy to see PD get a license to use the 15000 square metre off road course at the "Autostadt". IMO it would be a welcome addition to the game, and would tie in with the overall theme superbly.
