Hello,

First off,
From this time forward the WRS is going to be strictly a GT4 based sub-forum of the GTP... All threads reffering to the GT3 WRS have been moved to the archive.

Some major changes are going to occur with the switch to GT4 in the WRS.
The primary change worthy of noting is that the previous registered drivers list is being trashed and all drivers will need to qualify for the GT4 WRS.

Regarding the qualifier...

On monday the 28th of March I will post a qualifier race to establish division rankings for the switch to GT4.

I'm not revealing the race yet. :sly:

The best of luck to all of you.

Please feel free to make suggestions regarding what the race should be. ;)

hey why don;'t ya go on and open it. If you gave people time to run it, the things may be closer u know. (the times, meaning for maybe some new faces)

Hi,

Seems I have joined this forum at just the right time :)

I am well up for this, can you tell me how long this qualifier will be open for?

Also do you go by the rule that TCS & ASM are as you choose to have them, ie you dont state whether we have them on or off at start of race, we get choice.

Thanks,

Lee.

thats how its been the time I've been here so don't expect it to change. I've been here over a year so and its always been your choice.

It entirely depends upon the race as to whether Kent specifies any particular settings OR parts.

Have a quick browse over the Archive forum for the previous 105 weeks of the WRS.

The qualifier will be open for all eternity - or until a few weeks after GT5 is released. The purpose is to get an idea of what division people would be in and new members turning up throughout the next 2 years would also need to run the qualifier. Be aware that you can only submit a time for the qualifier ONCE.

Also - Middlesborough can hardly be classed as "Earth"... :D

here's a race for ya ;)

Motor Carriage at the 'Ring? lol
just kiddin.
The real race I am thinking of is:
2006 Eclipse at Tsukaba
or
Audi LeMans Quattro at High Speed Ring

2 good fast tracks with 2 decent cars that oughta be cool races to run as qualifiers.

No, for the qualifier it's better to get a car that actually comes with GT4 when you first begin, like I don't even have the LeMans Quattro yet.

Something like Ford Mustang GT @ New York or something...

oph yeah I forgot about it being a prize car. Sry bout that
well instead of that car we could use the 05 Mustang at High speed Ring.
That sound better to ya?

Maybe we should try the Astra touring car @ midfield raceway.

Or the RE RX7 at El Capitan.

Lee.

well we need to use a car thats good balanced and everything (preferably not a race car) for all the newbies out there to the GT series. If you remember we had a lancer to use last game, so I think we need to stick with non-race cars.

Yeah I cant wait.

Hopefully it will be a great combination, I think el capitan should definately be the track. Its there from the beginning and its a really good track to master.

My money is on eternity.....

When I saw this thread I almost wet my pants :D
I thought: 'Yes, it's finally time for the Qualifier Race!' 👍

Then I read Monday, March 28th... :indiff: ;)

Looks like I will have to wait a little longer. Too bad I have a really rough week at the University, next week. I could have really used the long weekend for this.

If I can give my opinion on the track, I would say nothing like Midfield, or High Speed Ring, or anything easy like these examples. The track needs to be at least a little technical, therefore the good drivers will stand out better. Also, not too technical, or else it would take too many laps and too much effort to figure out the perfect way to do it.

In other words, neither too simple, nor too complex. A nice balanced choice (which I am sure Kent will make).

As far as the car goes, nothing too overpowered or fast. A nice little vehicle, with good handling, decent amount of power, good acceleration, and relatively low top speed.

If it was for me, I would make the Qualifier be the same track and vehicle combination that was offered in WRS Warmup Race #2: Infineon Raceway Sports Car Course + Toyota SuperAutoBacs MR-S JGTC. I loved that race: the track was technical and complex enough to assure tons of fun and the car was really balanced and handled like a charm 👍

Something on those lines would be perfect :D

I am not saying the exact same race, that one above is just an example of what I am talking about.

Also (and then I will quit, I promise) please: No city courses! Please! Nothing like Seoul, New York, or Hong Kong, at least - 90 degree turns after long straights with no reference points for when/where to break is not my idea of technical, it's just plain stupid and frustrating 👎

I'll shut up now :sly:

Qualifier should be a FR normal car that has good balance but can be pushed by the fast guys on a circuit that offers low speed corners, high speed corners, hairpins and straights. One that rewards a proper race line but can be run by anyone.

It should be in arcade mode with no adjustments beyond driver aids....

Definatley NOT an Evo at Midfield... :)

Something like Tsukuba with a BMW 120i or 330i, Mazda Miata, MG roadster with N3 or S1 tires, though OLR always defaults to the softest available tire... gets my vote....not that that is what it should be...but along those lines. Tsukuba really is a great test of driver skill.

well I was talking to Kent on AIM and he said the 05 'stang one sounds good, not sayig he was going to do it but he said he was thinking about it along with some other ideas.

I hate to sound like a newbie, but since I'm new to OLR, I'm trying to find out what the purpose of the WRS is about and all the threads I've found don't really indicate how it works...

I mean, I get the idea that it's a weekly race that is setup by a Moderator and everyone posts their best times...but other then that, I'm lost! :(
(Is it just that simlpe?)

Could someone point me to a thread that outlines how this works exactly, how to qualify, if necessary and all that jazz?

I'd appreciate it!

TIA

You'll find a description of the GT3 version here in the archives. Kent mentions changes for GT4, so keep that in mind... When Kent posts the Qualifying race next Monday it should all be clear as crystal. :D
Your description is pretty accurate, other than that we normally only post sector times throughout the week and submit entire lap times via PM to Kent.

El Capiton, with a nice FR car (BMW M3).

Technical enough for good drivers to stand out, yet still eays to navigate, The BMW M3 is a very well balanced car, If not use an RX7 or somthing.

Either Way i think El Capiton is the best track for the job

It should be in arcade mode with no adjustments beyond driver aids....

That's another point I forgot to mention, earlier.

I think the Qualifier should be done in Arcade Mode - this way everybody has the same vehicle and individual settings do not affect the outcome (since there are no settings to adjust - except for Weight, Power, Top speed, and Driving Aids, which should be agreed upon such that they are the same for everybody).

This way everyone will have the same weapons and the same opportunities (theoretically speaking).

EDIT: I personally think Driving Aids should be ruled out, too. People need to learn to drive without them - provided the car does not actually have them in real life. Driving Aids do more harm than good, anyway, in most occasions.

The Wizard.

I think the qualifier should be similar to the actual weekly races, however those will be laid out...
The GT3 qualifier was in an arcade car, and then 80% of the GT3 weekly races were in fully-overpowered sim cars with tuning (at least it seemed that way).
On that note, I think this board has enough members to host two weekly races per week, one arcade and one sim... something for everyone. ;) (That should probably go in the Suggestions Box, but it's been archived.)

I think too that El Capitan is a fast and technical track, where fast racers would stand out of the drivers pack much more than on Midfield.
As for the car, I'll propose a light FR or MR. I like the way the Berlinette '99 (available in Arcade Mode from the scratch at the french dealer Hommel) smoothly drifts on this track.
👍 👍

Not to take away from GTP and the WRS in away...but for all you El Capitan / FR fans....

A little spot race I'm running over there.

It's a wonderful combo, though not sure it is right for a qualifier for the WRS....

Bring on the 'Ring though, in any car, preferably a normal car, idealy a Ruf (hahaha)...my 2500+ laps there will come into favor for me...hahaha.

Good to see Kent is back.

Kent, can you post the results for wrs 105 and 106?

I would like to see the qualifier on Tsubuka personally. It doesn't matter about the car choice for me, I drive anything :)
