No FIRM release date info yet, of course. May not even be real news, but there are a few interesting confirmations:
* Nurburgring Nordschleife – Featuring a ‘rollercoaster-style’ race course with various elevation changes and turns, located in the wooded hills of the Eifel plateau in Western Germany, Nurburgring is widely regarded as one of the most challenging race courses in the world. Opened in June, 1927 with a total length of 20.8km and a total of 73 corners (33 left, 40 right), the track is considered legendary and mythical amongst many motorsport competitors and fans. The Formula One Grand Prix makes its stop at Nurburgring every year for the official Grand Prix of Europe and many auto manufacturers from around the world use the track as a testing ground.
So, it looks like the whole long course is in!

GT Photo Mode – Players can travel around the globe with their car(s) and conduct photo sessions in various popular locations that include Piazza San Marco, Shibuya, Tsumago, Sagano and more. Once the photo is taken in the game, the player can save it to their memory card (8MB) (for PlayStation®2) and have the option to share with friends or print out a color copy via a USB printer.

Is it just me, or does that sound like the most useless feature. But at least that site confirms the N-Ring. 👍

Not really. You'll be able to print out photos directly from the game. I'll make 100's of these to hang on my walls. :)

OK. Great news. But, is this abosultely true about the modes and courses. And, they site says the game will feature over 100 courses and there is like 10 now. So i just think it semms for 2 years PD has been sitting on the ass. Maybe im wrong. No offense off course to GT as a game but PD should get rolling with GT4.

Yes finally. ever since racing on the ring in PGR2, I've always wanted it for GT and now we are going to get it. I can just see myself flying along that course in my Skyline R34 GTR Nuir II.

GT Career 'Simulation' Mode – Via the GT Universe, players start from the bottom and race to earn money, unlock cars and courses, buy and sell cars and upgrade parts while competing in more than 200 various championship races.
!!!!
Over 200 various championship races!!
sweeeet...

I don't think you have an appreciation of how big an undertaking a game like this is.

Each car in the game must get it's licensing sorted out, then be extensively researched, measured and photographed, an optimised 3D model made, all the textures designed and applied, and each car also needs to be programmed so that it accurately reflects it's real life performance and handling characteristics, and allow for various changable settings. Then there's sound etc.

Mulitply that amount of time by at least 500.

Then consider the amount of information that need to be aquired to model a circuit. Think of all the signs and different surfaces that had to be photographed or designed for the New York track. Or all the details on a 13 mile real like Nurburgring! Then multiply that amount of time by 100

Then add to that the interface design, AI development, online development, testing....

I'm sure they haven't been sitting on their asses.

Somebody at Sony forgot a "1", because it's 173 corners on the Nordscheifle, not 73.

well put trEVO... plus I guess we should also consider (why its taking so long) is that they might be waiting for the exclusive licenses, for example of EA, with other car makers to expire... which is when PD can jump in and add them to the game...

Amen to everything trEVO said.

usernamed: Over 200 championship races is quite vague, there were well more than that in GT3 when you consider there were 3-10 rounds in most championships, and quite a few of them.

Well considering the amount of cars and tracks, I think it'd be relatively safe to assume we're talking 200 championships here each consisting of multiple rounds. :D

👍

Exactly what I was thinking.

I'd love to be able to print pictures of this cars (it's hard to get posters of them over here), I'll be happy with A4 sized ones. :)

Could always print them, scan in and vector them. Then I could make posters as huge as my room door. :D

The ink cartridge companies are rubbing their hands together about now...

I'd be surprised if we had 200 championships, or perhaps 'events' is a better term to encompass them, but that'd certainly be cool.

After reading all of this, the new modes, the amount of cars and tracks i seriously doubt that it will all fit on one DVD.I think that they will do it like GT 2.Arcade DVD and GT mode DVD.

The Photo Mode announcement lists a few areas where "photos" can be produced. One is confirmed as a course, so I presume the other locales are also courses in the game, too. They still repeated the "up to 100 courses, over 500 cars" statement.

On top of the necessary work that has already been mentioned, I saw in one of their videos that they were using some sort of colour meter, to get colours correct. Physical measurements were done to mm accuracy; in some places (Ford GT), they used car manufacturer computer data to model cars. It's that attention to detail that takes time, too.

PD has very dedicated workers and they won't let us down!

Even so, somebody, somewhere will start complaining.

Cheers,

MasterGT
