When I drive in single player, I can drive fast and mistake free.
But then today, I got bored of endurance races, so went to play online a bit.
I hopped in a 908 and within minutes, I spun. I though that it must have been a one off, but I kept spinning and spinning.
I then tried the 787B, same thing.
I ended the day in a Tank car, I even span that.
My relationship with online mode in GT5 has been like that since the very beginning.
I can drive perfectly in single player, but online I drive like I'm an amateur. It's embarrassing.
It's as if I have no control over the car. And my Driver Aids were on default, TCS 5 and ABS 1.
I have no idea why I'm so bad online.
Please share your thoughts.

In some online races tsc= off! All Online races I host all aids are off. That means you have to drive much more careful. I do It because the crashkids will spin out in the first corner. That works perfect btw. Just be careful with the throttle and learn to drive without tsc and stuff.

One thing about the online is that it usually changes the tires you have set up. Go to driving options and make sure you have the best tires selected. I was actually thinking that they've improved on the traction in online as of late.

Racing Softs as always 👍

I have noticed that some cars handle different in online mode to offline. Often, as has been mentioned it changes your tyre choice, but sometimes i've definately noticed a difference

I also drive with a wheel.
I'm not certain, but it feels like there's less Force Feedback?
And the car feels lighter.

I never use tcs, and I check the tires I am using. The cars feel different online vs offline.
Besides, the feeling of a car has nothing to do with tcs or tire selection.

Tire wear is on typicaly as well.

And tire wear is irrelevant because tire wear is On during endurance offline races.

The feeling of a car depends on the tyres used 👍
Different tyres offer different grip levels.

I checked everything before each race.
I just kept spinning out of corners, it made me feel sick.

What grip level is your settings set to??

I'm sure there's two settings, one is vaguely similiar to A spec the other is more like 'professional' on GT5 prologue??

Also, tyres wear is different online compared to A spec, and it takes longer for tyres to warm up online, but quicker to wear out(!!!)..

I wasn't the host.
I think there's something like Low and Real.

I noticed this, took my Zonda C12S round monza a-spec, smoked my old lap times using sport softs. Went online, HighSpeed Ring weather change set to sunny, set it to sport softs, spin spin spin it was like I was on comfort hards. My first thought was that during my monza practice I had left TCS on 5 by accident.

So I went to highspeed ring in practice, sport softs all aids off (ABS1) it drove like a dream.

Only other conclusion was that even though weather was set to sunny, the track was still damp.

Not noticed a difference myself.

If it's not a tyre, driving aids or weather thing, I don't know what else to suggest. The way you described it, it seems quite drastic. Are you using familiar cars and tracks? What tracks have you been using online?

I wondered about the internet connection but even if you had a slow connection with some downloads going simultaneously, that shouldn't make a difference to how the car feels to you.

Cars that I've driven with for over 5,000 miles.
Tracks were very familiar too.
Things like this makes me worry about my skills.

Sounds like online performance anxiety. Seriously. It's like you're trying too hard to drive fast to impress online people with how awesomely fast you are, like you can in offline A-Spec, and it leaves you flailing in the dirt. Settle down, breathe, and smooth out your inputs. It will all fall into place.

Doesn't sound like the case.
I'm either racing with a friend or in front of strangers.
With a friend would be for the LOLs, and if I mess up in front of strangers, I don't really care what they think.
But I'll give that a go 👍
I don't race online often since I'm either constantly grinding, practising or doing an endurance event.

Ah, GT5:P had the rubber-banding. Cars at the front were slower / had less grip than those at the back. I remember the Pro events eventually did away with rubber-banding. I wonder if rubber-banding is back... althought thinking about it I guess boost is it.

The pressure of racing offline is a fraction of what it is online. Racing against real players can often result in disaster if you are trying to hard to 'prove yourself'.

This is why I love online more, it can really get the adrenaline going.

Never, I just race online for fun.
Nothing serious.

Even so, it will always be at the back of your mind that you are racing real people.

But it seriously feels as if the rears are loosing grip much more easily.
But maybe you're right, just don't take it so seriously.
The link posted by someone really does bend the other way though...

Same here man, for example, i drove the Ferrari Italia 458 fully tuned in Single Player and i handles like a dream, i go to online and the car is spinning out wtf?

I only use ABS 1, and racing soft tires in the Ferrari in this case, and same configuration and i go online and snipping around its what i do, every single car does that, but the GT-R Calsonic if Racing Soft Tires don't.

It's so strange, but your fun of online is going down and you come back to single you drive weel.
