What's going to be different about mine, compaired to everyone else's, is the budget.

My budget will not be one solid figure. My budget, is per month.

Mostly because I have no money saved to put toward anything, but I'm going to be making a decent amount per month.

So here's my budget:
$1500 per month.

That can buy ALOT. And when I say alot, I can afford a Viper with that.

But the issue is insurance. I cannot afford to INSURE a Viper. $1500 includes insurance. And for an 18 year old male, it's going to be expensive.

I specced out a 2006 Lancer Evolution MR. The car, per month, I can afford, it being $700. The insurance, on the other hand, came out to be $900 a month.

$11,000 a year insurance. That I cannot afford.

I'm trying to stick with a 5 year finance. If the car is cheap I can go lower, if the car's expensive I can go higher, but I'd rather just stick with 5 years.

Now what I need in a car:
MUST BE A SPORTS CAR. I don't have a family, so I don't need a family car.
Must have power.
0-60 under 7, the lower the better.
AWD or RWD, no FF.
2 doors or 4 doors are fine. (Because I'll take an M3 sedan, aside that and an Evo I don't really want a 4 door car)
No convertibles.
Reliable. If anyone says RX7 I'm going to beat up that person.
New or used.
MANUAL ONLY.

What I've Consitered (In no order):

E36 M3
Nissan 300ZX
Mitsubishi 3000GT
Mitsubishi Starion
Chrysler Conquest
Pontiac Firebird WS6 (and no less, WS6 or nothing)
Toyota Supra MKIII
Toyota MR2 Turbo
Pontiac GTO (Brand new, didn't look up insurance but payments were $600/month.)
Mustang Cobra (If it's not a Cobra, it will not be consitered)
Honda S2000

What Will Not Be Consitered:
Mazda RX7 of any type. Rotary and Reliable don't go together
Chevrolet Camaro. I had one already...

Have fun picking out a car for me.
It'd be nice if you'd get an insurance quote before recommending a car, and not just saying "OMG YOU CAN GET A FERRARI TESTAROSSA OMG"

Not sure If you want ( or do they even make) a hardtop S2000?

Meets all of your standars and maybe exceeds them, what about a pick-up truck (2WD of course for insurence purposes)

I forgot about the S2000. S2000 is the only convertible I'd consiter, because it's an S2000.
S2000 is going on the consiter list.

No trucks, never ever ever.

Rotaries are reliable. If you know what you're doing. I think it's fair to say that 600whp with a huuuge turbo, you don't know what you're doing. But don't worry, I'm not recommending it. Now if you want to talk reliable, leave out the 3000GT.

But I'm not sure on the insurance, but definitely consider an Audi R/S4. And if insurance is the problem, just go beg and say 'ohhh look at all of the airbags, it has 4wd (really means nothing), etc.

EDIT: Haha, I was just about to write in S2000. But saw the no convertible thing. But as I had just left this window alone for a while... look what popped up.

EDIT Again:
What about a Mazdaspeed6?

Care to explain why? Do you just hate ALL trucks or just some?

I'm not a truck person. I have no use for a truck.
Usually people buy trucks because they need a truck.

I'm looking for a high-performance daily-driver. Not a "I need to tow my boat to the lake" vehicle :)

*Oh crap, Didn't mean to double post*

There's 5 or so RX7's on Autotrader at any given time that are for sale with blown Apex seals. Stock or not.

I'm not an Audi fan, but I've looked at older S4's, the twin turbo V6's. I don't dislike them, but I couldn't really see myself living with one.

Mazdaspeed 6? Mazda's attempt at cashing in on the Evo/STi craze? Nah, I don't think so :p

Do you actually fit in an S2000? I found it pretty damn snug and i'm only 5'11.

Also I thought you dismissed the idea of the SW20 turbo because there werent any later non lethal handling versions available. Mind you the early S2000's are pretty simmilar to the early SW20's if you push them too much they will bite back.

I realy like the GTO, although the GTO front looks like ass. I've heard that some people have been ordering the Monaro front for them, but yeah the GTO is pretty cool. I would buy a GTO, hell I wouldn't mind a Vauxhall Monaro actually i'd love one.

Also NO E30S ARGH JOHN E30 M3 DAMNIT

E30's are too expensive for what they are. I'm not going to pay $15,000 for a 20 year old car with 150,000 miles.

I dismissed the MR2 idea before I learned that they weren't half as fast as I thought they were. I assumed the ones here had the JDM engine, but they don't. So they arn't that bad.

I've driven an 05 S2000, and I fit fine.

obviously youve never driven a lightning or silverado SS before hell you can tow your friends race car to the track beat him then tow his car home

I hate convertibles, but I am into S2000 and Miata right now. So, I'd recommend those. 3000GT is a gorgeous car, but I doubt it's reliable. 350Z's are nice, but sounds like your insurance rates would be too high, same goes for RX-8(I think it's as reliable as the Z). You'd look good in the last gen. Supra.

SC 300!!

Or..

SC 400!!

Why not?

affordable, nice looking, RWD, powerful, what's not to like?

He said he didn't want a truck though, I doubt you posting this will actually sway him.

Wait what do you mean you found out they were slower than you thought and they aren't that bad? Also the turbo MR2's do share the same powerplant but it's de-tuned or emission restricted in the US although only the later revision jdm cars put out 250hp and I think (not sure) that the US cars were 200hp.

I dunno it depends on what you want realy, will you be tracking/autocrossing it? Or do you just want something to hoon and do big smokey donuts again? Because if you just want to you know hoon I would say GTO, mainly because it came from the country that invented hooning.

It's 40hp less so that makes it 40hp less likely I'll end up facing the wrong direction when boost hits.

Did they make SC300/400 manuals?

I don't really like 350Z's, and RX8's lack power :p

MKIV Supra's are great, but the insurance would suck. The car itself is still $35,000+

Yes. They came in a 5 spd version. They also could be had with no sunroof and cloth seats. If you find one with all three you have found the rarest of all SCs.:dopey:

How about you get up off your ass and do it yourself?

Don't forget tax, licensing, destination charge, interest (take 6% as a good first guess, though for you it will probably be higher), and of course, gas.
That can buy ALOT. And when I say alot, I can afford a Viper with that.
Okay. Buy it then. And be sure to tell us how many months you were able keep it before you COULDN'T afford it anymore.

How did that add to the thread at all.

I'd go with the Trans Am WS-6, but the insurence is probably high. Is there abosolutely no FF car that you will consider. My sisters Cobalt SS is pretty sporty and hasn't had any issues yet with matainance.

Oh I'm sorry. I should have instead listed a bunch of cars that no insurance company on earth will insure to an 18 year-old.

MistaX, do you still live with your parents? Nobody I know who lives on their own would even consider spending $1500 each month on a car (except those with six-figure incomes).

I have a couple of friends who spent an insane percentage of their income on a car, and they both immediately regretted it, and had to give up the car a short time later.

Also, it's naive to think that a car dealership is going to let you drive an RS4/STi/Evo/etc. off the lot without putting at least 15% down.

Reality bites, but you might want to start getting in touch with it.

I know this guy around your area who was selling a banged up Camaro, the dumbass played chicken with a train

maybe you could get a used 1990 RX-7 and strap the Chevy V8 in it.

I could very easily drive one of those cars off the lot, since I have a co-signer with a 850 credit score.

That's the main reason why I can do this, is due to my co-signer.

If I hadn't a co-signer I couldn't have the budget I have.

Yes, I live with my parents, yes, they know what I'm doing, and one of the two supports this idea. The one that doesn't support it doesn't condem it, but thinks I should get a crapbox for a few months and then do this, even though that doesn't make sense because it's prolonging the inevitable.

And yes, I'm setting aside $1500 to a car/insurance. That's not my entire income.

Get a capable cheaper car (That wont hurt so bad if you damage), improve your skills before you get a expensive High performance beast.

Okay, then. Have fun!

How about instead of living at home you spend 1000k a month and got a decent apartment then apent another 400/month for a Z and the extra 100/month for insurance? Maybe you just like living at home more then I did?

If that isn't an option I say go with a GTO. I drove one when I was looking and I like it. Plenty of power, decent creature comforts, and it looks sharp. Other then that I would say pick up a C5 Vette, maybe even a C5 Z06.

Most of the cars I'm consitering are actually a step down in performance from what I already had. Aside the GTO and WS6, everything on the list has less power.

And I'm not taking the GTO all too seriously, since I think buying a new car is a bit strange.

The WS6 is a strong possibility since it'd be easier for me to drive it. I wouldn't have to get used to it or anything, since it's relatively the same as what I had.

I know it doesn't have that much power, but I also like 240SXs, no matter the generation.

"OMG DO U DRIFT?!"

Not going to be bothered with that question all the time.
