My niece is here every Tuesday and Thursday, and what does that mean?

wiggles.jpg

Wiggle time.

All day, non-stop. Then the stupid songs get stuck in my head and I'm humming Wiggle songs all week.

Thanks a lot Australia! :grumpy:

On an interesting note, they're apparently Austrailia's highest grossing entertainment act.

They only need 4 to form a butt-hump ring?

What happened to REAL kids shows? Like, Reading Rainbow and Bill Nye? This generation of young children needs Bill Nye more than anybody.

The cocked gun hands, the name "The Wiggles", and they built a bunch of towers. I think someone's compensating for something.

And they all look like 40 year old pedophiles. *dreads the day his son learns how to use the remote*

That's why you parental lock EVERYTHING on the TV and buy the DVDs for proper kids shows. I know a couple of people that don't have so much as an antenna hooked up to their TV but buy DVDs that they approve for their kids.

Personally I think that is a bit too far, but if it prevents The Wiggles from invading my home then it may be necessary.

I realize it's a slightly different target audience, but the Teletubbies - or worse, the Boohbahs - make the Wiggles look like Nobel laureates.

Well, If or when I have kids, they're going to be watching Bill Nye and all the other shows that were actually useful.

This is one of the few times I have ever thought this, so pay attention:

I agree with Omnis.

I saw the Teletubbies for the first time when I was about 16 years old, and they scared the bejezus out of me. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would find that show useful for developing minds.

I'm with Omnis on this one, I think everyone needs more Bill Nye. That guy taught me that inertia (sp?) is a property of matter!

Although the age of the target audience is different, Bill Nye (aswell as other shows of that genre) are far greater for a young mind then a bunch of old guys dressed like gay aliens with TV's in their stomachs.

Whatever you say, Mr. Man.

(Know what becoming a dad means? Less SpeedChannel, that's what. I want to know what's on the idiot box before my kid's born. Good thing my 3-year-old niece likes watching the cars go around...her mom and dad and in-laws hate it, though.)

Bill Nye does a damn good job of explaining science. I'll watch it every so often, unprompted.

The guy on the left of that pic looks... creepy.

I don't get how a kids program that promotes boys to use handbags (At a young age that is just asking for trouble from peers) and speak like babies ever got aired.

'Thomas The Tank Engine', Power Rangers, and 'And they walked away' were my favourite videos as a kid :D

The Wiggles actually isn't that bad of a show for kids - I agree with Duke that it's miles ahead of Teletubbies, which aims for who knows what. We have a digital video recorder set to record just about every episode, so we have a slew of them to choose from when she wants to watch it (which happens to be all the time).

I don't think she's quite old enough to understand Bill Nye, anyway.

Thank God my boys had a lot of me in them. They hated Teletubbies, and Wiggles. Oh, and that purple dinosaur could just go to hell.

They were into Power Rangers and Scooby Doo. Power Rangers were horrible, IMO, but at least they were better than the alternative. I did have to sit through Dora the Explorer, though. What hell...

At least none of you had to watch Mr Rogers. DAMN HIM TO HELL AND MY PARENTS FOR MAKING ME WATCH HIM!! "Its a beautiful day in the......." NOOOOOO!! :ouch:

Mr. Rogers tought you how stuff was made, and he was allowed to play with machinery and stuff. Then it was ***yawn*** naptime.

Mr. Rogers was pretty cool, I always wanted a Trolly for my house because of that sweater wearing slow talker!

Bill Nye the Scince Guy was an awsome show. I used to watch it all the time when I was smaller.

Those 4 guys look creepy. Honestly I'm really appaled at what kids nowadays choose to watch (and also what the children networks are airing). I'm 18 now, when I was little, I was selective, only watched the good shows. Thomas the Tank Engine, Transformers, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, etc. other good cartoons. I don't understand how anyone could watch Barney or Teletubbies or anything of the sort (or in this case Wiggles, those guys look really creepy..). What happened to the good ole days when shows like Swat Kats, Spiderman, X-Men, Duck Tales and Inspector Gadget were on? :indiff:

Of course, 20 years from now it's gonna be the same thing...

"Man, why don't they play good shows like The Wiggles anymore?"

This is the best thread title, ever. I saw the picture. I read the "Wiggle time" below it. "Oh my god" is exactly what came out.

Ladies and Gentlemen, read it and weep.

Teletubbies is flat-out weird, but my 2-year-old loves it. It really connects with her.

Sadly, she also loves The Tweenies, which brings out murderous impulses in me. The one on the left (Bella) is such a little know-it-all cow who tries to boss everyone about whilst flouncing around saying "look at me I'm so beautiful", then flies into fits of histrionics if no-one pays attention to her. Seriously, murderous impulses...

Another equally bad show from the Antipodes would have to be Hi-5... although I must say, the programme is not entirely without some redeeming features... (or is that just wrong?)

On the other hand, the discovery channel airs this show very early in the morning that is actually very interesting. I don't know what it's called, but it's geared for use in classrooms. They ask questions and stuff at the end of the episodes, and they have little mini-interviews with random students throughout the episodes. From what I saw, they showed everything from photons to the Fibonacci sequence and Phi. This is precisely what kids need to be watching. The lessons and explanations were very good. It was super interesting. It's not as wacky and stuff as Bill Nye was, but, Bill Nye has "Bill Nye Factor," and no other show can emulate that in my opinion. Regardless, I always try to catch it when I rise early. It's absolutely worth it. However, I have no idea what it's called, like I said. What a shame. Anybody have any info?

{RANT]any childrens program that isn't made in the 80's or early 90's make me sick. damn, even He-Man and the masters of the universe beats teletubbies 6-0.. and now that I think of it, I'd rather watch My Little Ponies than any modern childrens program. seeing even glimpse of these horrible modern tv-shows causes me internal bleeding and massive deteriorating in my brain capacity.[/RANT]

ah, now I feel better.

no, not yet.

Barney can actually make for a good comedy.
