I should have known this would happen my beloved 40 gb ps3 has gone to heaven and ill have to save for a new one

This means I will spend months craving my gt5 fix no more seasonals, no more bad gt auto music and no more spa

If anyone is in the same boat let me know how long its been and how your coping waiting to play gt5

ouch. my 40gb died ages ago. at least PS3 are a lot cheaper now than they were then

did you save your files on a USB stick? also not sure what happens to your dlc, but i suspect you will need to buy it again :(

Isn't the DLC tied to the PSN account? You should be able to re-download them and all your other purchased content.

DLC is tied to the master account I think. And online purchases should be associated with the master account. I don't think Sony is heartless enough to charge for DLC on an existing account due to a PS3 going bust.

so if, i log onto a friend's PS3 with my account that has DLC tied to it, then install the free family upgrade on his machine, then he will have access to the DLC on his machine after i leave?

tbh am confused because the FAQ on GT5 site says it is
"We heard from those using the PS3™ system with multiple accounts for family members, that they would like to be able to use the tracks and cars of the DLC on all other users on the PS3™ system as long as one of the accounts makes the DLC purchase"

to me PS3 system means the machine not the account

No I believe he has to purchase that family thing since he himself has a master account.

So would that mean I can still use my master account on the new ps3?

a bit sad though my 40 gb is 4 years old a good innings from what I have read about the 40 gb model

Man, I feel your pain. I had a fat 40gb PS3 too and it died after five years of working perfectly.

It took me about four months to get a new 160gb Slim. At least I have a couple of other consoles and A LOT of games. Hope you have at least an Xbox or any other thing to make the wait easier. Still, if you have, it's not going to be the same without GT5.

Again, my most sincere condolences... The good thing is that if you've alredy purchased everything, you'll never loose it. Though it's going to take a while to update from scratch.

Well yeah thats an annoyance to get everything downloaded again but fortunately I do have my xbox 360 to at least give me game time a shame really I have 40 games on my ps3 collecting dust at the moment and a fair few of them I was in the middle of thank god ps3s arent 900 bucks anymore

See, it's not that bad. At least you have an Xbox. And yes, PS3's are cheaper and better now, so it will be worth the wait.

As for the game progress, that's the only negative part of it. In my case, I have 28 PS3 games. Unfortunately I was too lazy to do back-ups, so I lost everything I had. Some of them I haven't touched again because it would be a pain to complete everything again.

So do you think I can transfer my master account from my old ps3 to the new one?

DLC is not a problem, you can just redownload them using your account info. I did that at my dads house and could download the cars + track without any problem.
You could probably get back the info on your PS3 HD also, since it's quite easely removable on the fat ps3. Not sure if those info are tied to the ps3 tho.

Not so worried about keeping the data ill chase that avenue once I get my new ps3 just need to know if I can activate my master account on my new ps3 when I get it

That I'm not sure how it works because I've only had one account. What I know is that accounts are not attached to the PS3, but to the PSN. If you log in with the account in which you bought all the DLC in the new PS3, you should be able to download everything for free.

:( my 40gb (had a 160gb HDD ) died a few months ago. Fix it for way to much money and died again. Took it back to the guy that fixed it and got a free repair and after that it died again. Lucky for me I backed it up one day before it died again. Saved up money to buy a new one but forgot the login for my master account. Called Sony and got my password back and was happy to find out that I could redownload all the dlc I bought.

Glad you got your account back I wont bother wasting time getting it fixed I have my eye on a 320 gb, how old was yours

Yes you can all you have to do is when you get the new PS3.... Go to the "sign up for the PLAYSTATION network" then click "use existing account" you will need the e-mail and password for the PSN account that you want to log into..... As far as your ADD-ONS go yes to that too... When you sign into the new PS3 go to the ps store and on the top right hand corner there is a thing called downloaded list... Go to that. All of your purchased DLC will be there even the "FAMILY PACK" click download on everything you need to download then install it... Also if you backed up your GT5 save data, put that on there too and it will be like you never lost anything.... I also want to add this info for you and everyone else... As of the PS3 SYSTEM UPDATE VERSION 4.00 you only have 2 activations for games... Used to be 5.. So if you have a message pop up when you go do what i said above that says "you already have 2 PS3s activated for game content, you need to deactivate a PS3 to activate another" call Sony they will tell you exactly how to get your activations back. Trust me everything i'm saying is true buddy you got nothing to worry about. I help people with this all the time... The only thing i really hope you did was back up your save data from GT5... And the only thing i think you won't get back is the add-on paint content and gear content... But if you have a the save data you won't even have to worry about it because it will be there. If you have anymore questions let me know.

28 minutes? You should've seen me updating from 1.00 to 2.04 a couple of days ago. It took me from 10pm to 6am of the next day. Of course, I only have a 1 meg internet service...

Oh wow good luck man

Well a update on my problem my brother agreed to sell me his 320 gb ps3 with 5 games the playstation move and the playstation eye for $300 au and to pay it off while I take the ps3 home gotta love family

My 40gb also died on Feb 11th, it was almost 4 years old, it shut off while playing gt5 seasonal. It was gracious enough to turn on one last time about a half hour later so I could back up all my saves, then I tried playing GT5 again, got to route x practice, it froze, so I restarted it and it said hard drive corrupt, so I restored the hard drive and at 90% complete it died. Luckily $250 isn't a big deal for me, so I bought a new 160gb two days later and after 5 hours of updates was playing again.

Ohh quit your whining (not seriously). But someone who posted in a thread about 2 months ago had to wait more than 24 hours.

Really glad you got your updates. I read what you posted about that jump in updates when you got to FINALLY experience GT5 2012. It's too bad that link with the updates didn't work. Just think about all those people stuck with GT5 2010. *quivers*

I felt like being the "first?" to call GT5 by the year. I find it to be a funny thing for more than 1 reason. Two New Years have come and passed. Countless hours have passed updating a game that came out two New Years ago. AND I'm stilll playing GT5? I find that the funniest. I stop playing games within the first couple of weeks, which is why I don't like buying games.

now for the topic
my launch PS3 ylod'd, then died 3 months after getting a launch GT5. One month after getting a DFGT, my PS3 got the ylod. It died 3 months after getting GT5 after "fixing" it about 7 times, until it was possible to get a new PS3. I spent about 1.5 months without it. It took 2 weeks to find the 2 materials needed to fix it, which were the worst 2 weeks of my GT5 career. Full-on addicted and I wasn't sure of my PSN password. Thank goodnesss for my strange memory and trial-and-error.

Lessons learned and I spent +20 minutes writing this...on my PS3. smh but oh well. Better than arguing. 👍

DAMN YOU!

Congrats, though. :)

I find it interesting that failures of the fat ps3 systems isnt timed the same. I have heard of them failing from 2 months of age all the way up to 5 years

I will miss my old faithful 40gb but gt5 needs my attention as well as more hard drive space at least I wont be shuffling game data from other games just to keep gt5 on there
