I've never experimented myself but if your car is producing too much wheelspin (either from settings/tyres/heavy right thumb!) then might this effect the life of the oil. It makes sense; if you think one car may be revving 10-15% more than another out of the corners, then that car should in theory degrade its oil quicker - it does with the tyres.

Does anyone know whether you can increase the life of your oil during Pro Leagues by lessening wheelspin and therefore excessive revving to maintain the bhp?

:)

Stopping wheelspin wont help [much]. You can do that simply by cranking up the TCS (or by not pressing the gas button so hard, if your not lazy like me:p), the oil light will still pop on after 7 races or so. My 1011hp Corvette C5R drops down to 963hp during the latter Pro Legaue races, but I dont really mind. It makes it more of a challenge since I usually loose my advantage on the straights:)

I would be surprised if it was wheelspin-related, but what about gear-shifting? I wonder if holding the gears up to 500rpm past the redline hurts the car more than short-shifting.

Would be interesting to know.

Have you experimented then? I would just like to know whether PD built in oil degrading linked to high revving and time rather than just miles raced, as most people agree. :)

I havent experimented with the reving part. Just wheelspin:) The difference I noticed was small enough that it could easily be due to variations in my driving line, which I am too lazy to go back and fine tune.

I think the only time my oil light came on during a long race or series is the GT Championship. I changed the oil right before I started the series. It came on in the second race.

I think that is about 70 laps total for the first 2 races. I am not sure of the mileage. I will have to look and see what races those are, and calculate the mileage for you.

Any other series (so far), all have like 10-15 laps each, the oil light doesn't come on for me. I always change the oil before a long series.

I used the F1 car for a quick run of the Super Speedway endurance. That is 100 laps, and actually 141 miles I think instead of 150 miles like the games says.... No oil light....I think I can run it twice before the oil light comes on.... That course is a high speed constant high revs race, so you make the comparison....

Mmm... See, I feel some races place higher stress on an engine therefore the oil degrades quicker.

I reckon those two races aren't far off 110-120 miles in total. If you take into account the extra gearchanging, engine stress etc., this would mean the oil is degrading quicker than on an oval circuit. :)

I might have to run the Super Speedway enduro in 1st gear to find out!!! Gonna hurt the ears I think!

How the hell are you gonna run the entire race in 1st?! Wanna force the final gear settings to 0? 😈

Or are you planning to.....lose? You do understand that would make you a....LOSER! :p

/shoot me

Two words:

MANUAL TRANSMISSION!

Dippy tart! :D

I wasn't trying to win the bloody race, just see if the oil light would come on earlier MR THICKY!!!!! :dizzy:

Can you keep the noise down I'm at work trying to sleep!

Heh heh! I'm at work too. My boss just apologised to me for shouting at me. I told him it didn't matter because I was ignoring him at the time. And then I said "I have to go put paper in the printer" and walked out of the office.

I love non-violent confrontation!

Usually considered to be a career-limiting move!

No, we're just pursuing a line of non-co-operation and of gradual belittlement. Hence the comment about him not needing to apologise because I wasn't listening.

Oh, and our other favourite tack:
Him- "Why hasn't this been done?"
Us- "Dunno"
Him- "Well whose job is it?"
Us- "Err, well before you came here and replaced the existing IT manager, the IT manager used to do it".

I know this is off-topic, but my boss is a total tool.

I hate that little red oil lamp indicator,i keep thinking the engine is gonna seize on me and leave me with the performance of a 2CV. :nervous:

In the PD cup I went over 800km without being able to change oil. The drop in performance certainly made things interesting but didn't make the engine go pop.

Nail on the head there mate, that's what I want to get at. So there really is no way of changing your driving style to lengthen the life of your oil?

I don't think so, every time the light comes on for me it's at 300km intervals exactly and you can't drive the same every time.

Even if you change up at 2500rpm and drive everywhere at 40mph I bet it would still be 300km between oil changes.
