Well not blew up but started making a funny smell and emmiting an 'i'm close to being set fire' smell. I've had no problems with the unit up until two days ago when I plugged it in and it reset while doing the post. I thought maybe the power cable was at fault so I used a new one and it seemed to work fine that night. Last night I powered it on, while booting up I was plugging in the audio jack from my hifi amp. Then like 10 seconds later i'm like 'what the hell is that smell' and then 'holy crap what's that smoke?' then '**** turn it off!'

So I take the thing to bit's to see if anythings blown. Everything seems fine apart from the PSU and the motherboards little extention dual psu unit, although it's located right next to the damn psu.

So, I need to buy a new PSU and not a ****ty QTec one.
Currently I have.
Motherboard: Gigabyte 7GNNXP
Processor: AMD XP 2800+
Memory: 512mb DDR PC400 (Planning to buy another one to take advantage of dual channel)
2 80gb Maxtor ATA133 drives 1 120gb Maxtor SATA drive
Liteon 8x dual layer DVD_+R burner
Sony CD-RW
Netgear Wirless G card
Ati Radeon 7200 All in wonder

So what kind of PSU would anyone reccomend?

I recommend Antec. I'm running an Antec 430 watt PSU right now with a ton of devices installed, never had a problem.

Antec, i'll have to have a look down the shops. Is it loud? Because my old psu was effing noisy, although I had become accustomed to it after a while.

Hmm, does anyone know any other decent online pc retail sites for the UK?
I've checked dabs, microdirect and i'm about to check simply. And wow, simply offer a whole two PSU's, impressive.

No, it's not loud at all. I had a generic PSU before my Antec and the Antec is almost silent compared to the el-cheapo generic PSU.

Viper Zero
el-cheapo generic PSU.

I'm reading that tomshardware article as I type (Well not really but you know like pretty close, yup). Looks like another option if I can't find an Antec would be an Enermax.

Yeah, I'd have to agree on the Antec PSU. I've got the true power Antec 550w, and it has the best amperage ratings on the market. That means you'd have trouble blowing the thing up, even when trying to start 5 hearses. :D

eBuyer (www.ebuyer.com) has a wide selection, and is very good at the delivery phase. But their Returns handling is shocking.

So if you buy from them, hope they send you the right thing, and hope it works.

Ahh, I forgot about Ebuyer, thanks GG. ;)

I'm gonna go for the True Power 480 then, there is a more blingy one called the True blue but it's cheaper so i'm assuming it's missing some features the TruePower ones don't have.

I'm just hoping that none of my components are dammaged, I have a feeling the DPS module has died as well maybe but fortunately it's an optional component. :nervous:

Well I have plans for a better graphics card, more memory, another sata hdd and maybe a better processor eventually. Eh i've ordered it now and it should be here on Tuesday.
